Ridiculing our current Ark-B ministers isn't the same as supporting the Russians - it's acting out of despair that there's nobody left in the Conservative Party and the government of sufficient stature to command respect on the world stage

The huge problem with BJ is he doesn't want anyone with talent in his Government, they'd show him up.... there are excellent backbench tory MPs but he can't promote them (even if they'd accept) as they wouldn't back him over his constant lying.

Even i have heard of Rostov and the Sea of Azov

Oh dear - I haven't heard of the Sea of Azov before either.

I know where Roscoff and the Azores are.

LT’s monologue would have been great as part of an actual dialogue but it lost a lot of credibility when she couldn’t even at least wait for her cue. That’s pretty basic human communication and handing a volatile opponent the upper hand on a plate.

And yet, only a pro-EU/rejoin group have tweeted about the alleged translation incident - not picked up by the mainstream media?

Who has handled Lavrov well (recently)?

Tory MP Tom Tugendhat, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, praised Ms Truss for standing up to her Russian counterpart tweeting: “While we’re trying to bring peace and stability, Russia is playing games. Good to see ⁦@ trussliz⁩ standing up to Lavrov.”

Stop the PRESS.

A Tory MP has praised another Tory MP.

Given that the UK government in June 2021 signed an agreement to help Ukraine build a naval base in the Sea of Azov you kind of would hope that government ministers would know where it was.

Was I the only one who looked at where HMS Defender was in June 2021 when it was buzzed by Russian jets?

He believes election mandate trumps FPN. 'He serves at will of people'

If he's really going to try to spin this as "just a FPN" whilst ignoring the fact that he was telling us not to disobey the law and lying to Parliament about it, he really must despise the intelligence of the average voter.

DePfeffoff · 12/02/2022 19:24

I know! With hapless sidekick Diane Abbott. It doesn't bear thinking about does it

Whereas a combination of Starmer and Thornberry would be pretty formidable.

surely he deserved a birthday cake with 100 people

Around 50 people have received questionnaires covering all of the gatherings. Reports on the birthday cake gathering vary between 'around 10' people and 'up to 30' people.

AuldAlliance
BJ had drinks in the garden at 10 Downing Street with several people on the same day his police force fined a man £100 (+ £134 in costs & fees) for being in the street with one other person.

You have misread that example - the man was accused of being in a gathering of 'over two people' (could be 3 people or 50+ people). The gathering took place in the street in the early hours of the morning and we don't know if there were any aggravating factors.

DePfeffoff · 12/02/2022 19:33

@Blossomtoes

According to Camilla Tominey this morning Major squandered Thatcher’s majority in 1992. The fact that he persuaded more than a million more people to vote for him than voted Tory in 1987 has completely escaped her. Good thing some of us can count.
And it wasn't Major who squandered it. Essentially Thatcher squandered much of it, hence the pressure on her to resign. Major was in power for less than 18 months before the election, and in fact most people thought he would lose.

Could drinking while not at work be one of those aggravating factors perhaps?

Here is some potential c&p for you, Clavinova.
Probably not from a source you deem reliable, though.

You can't help that..... but for all your formidable talents, your not going to make a great FS.

If only Putin had his eyes on Brittany and the mid Atlantic, you could be MNs very first Foreign Secretary.

The Evening Standard is inadmissible as evidence as it is own by a Russian. It is to all intents and purposes a propaganda sheet for the Russian government surely?

Another unhappy donor

One of them here;

Neither Laura [Kuenssberg's] report, nor online story, informs readers either that the supposed Tory donor, John Armitage, hasn’t just donated £12,500 to Labour – or that it was his only party donation of 2021 – meaning he hasn’t been a Tory donor since 2020. He also donated almost £65,000 to the official ‘In’ campaign during the referendum, according to the Electoral Commission website.

Labour as well -

10 Feb 2022
The head of the Unite union, Labour’s biggest donor, has threatened to completely pull funding for the party over an ongoing pay dispute involving bin lorry drivers in Coventry...

“No longer will my union accept being treated like dirt by those who have their hands in our wallets at election time. Act like Labour, and we will treat you like Labour.”

@ClaudineClare

Anyway, I wonder how Call-me-Churchill is getting on with his questionnaire? Will he actually fill it in or will his lawyer? We would probably get more truth if Larry filled it out.
Left to himself he'd be rotating between three answers:
  1. Vaccines
  2. Brexit
  3. The public aren't interested in that.
DePfeffoff · 12/02/2022 20:05

You've misunderstood, not one person said it was acceptable. Rather it wasn't a party.

Yes, it's fascinating how people keep wanting to deflect to that despite being perfectly well aware (not least through having been reminded on these threads) that whether it was a party or not was irrelevant, what was relevant was that it was an unlawful gathering that was not for work purposes.

Here is some potential c&p for you

On May 16, 2020 – the day of another Downing Street garden gathering that is under investigation

I think they mean 15 May 2020. As far as I am aware, the 'cheese and wine' gathering has been classed as a work gathering and is not being investigated.

The Hayes resident was “advised to social distance and go home” at 12.30pm while out in Hounslow, but was spotted with the same man 45 minutes later.

  • fair enough, he was given the option to go home without a fine.

Was the work meeting with Carrie Johnson, the wife of the Prime Minister there?

I suppose they could have been talking about work People do when they go out to have a few drinks after work. Even with their spouses present.

I wonder if Government policy was being decided over wine and cheese?

Basic geography? Oh dear, I've never heard of Voronezh and Rostov before

It's not basic geography.

But I would imagine it's important to know such things when dealing with Russia

It's definitely important when you're going to tell Russia you will never recognise their claim to sovereignty of them.

cakeorwine · 12/02/2022 20:17

Useful BBC guide to gatherings under police investigation

Thanks to @Clavinova for bringing this up again

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-60124162

20th May 2020

About 100 people were invited by email to “socially distanced drinks in the No 10 garden this evening”. Witnesses told the BBC the PM and his wife were among about 30 people who attended. Boris Johnson has declined to say whether he was among those there.

This event is being investigated by the police.

cakeorwine · 12/02/2022 20:19

It's definitely important when you're going to tell Russia you will never recognise their claim to sovereignty of them

A bit like a Foreign Minister from another country saying that they would never recognise the UK claim over The Falklands. That wouldn't go well down in the UK

Clavinova · 12/02/2022 20:26

Was the work meeting with Carrie Johnson, the wife of the Prime Minister there?

Yes - although not married at the time. Boris and Carrie are only talking to each other when the photograph was taken - the two men at their table are turned away, having their own conversation. Carrie doesn't have a drink on the table - unlike the others - she was probably there for a shorter length of time.
