I've always had the impression that RV was selling stories in exchange for favourable press, rather than cold-hard cash. Therefore, in her head she technically hasn't 'sold' the story because it wasn't a financial transaction...

It's very much the Streisand effect isnt it? If RV hadn't sued for libel, this would have been forgotten about three years ago!

No, a later court ruling was that it was clear Rooney was accusing an individual and most people reading would take it as such. And that she was accusing Vardy personally.

That was a crucial ruling in Vardy’s favour, and the point at which a lot of people thought Rooney would settle.

I'm glad she didn't, though. This is fun!

I'm much too old really, to give a damn about WAGs and their social media accounts, but for some reason I've always had a soft spot for Colleen and I'm definitely Team Rooney all the way.

@MsTSwift. How frustrating. Surely one of the perks of being married to someone who has access to such juicy information is that he/she should share it. He is not playing fair.

Shouldn't Vardy be responsible for what her employees do anyway, if they are using information they obtained from her?

Exactly, it is other people’s dirty linen washed in public, and that is always worth a gawk. I am betting on Sheridan Smith playing CR in the made for TV movie. Can’t call the RV actor.

Team Coleen here too. I think they were advised to settle out of court but one/both of them chose not to. Agree about the Streisand effect.

Don't they report on the solicitors involved in the official court reports? The media reports definitely mention the barristers who is representing them. Whoever they are has struck lucky here!

It's the legal battle that's making it gawk worthy for me. If it was just a public slanging match I wouldn't care. But the fact that we never know what the next legal call will be, and now we've got mysteriously vanishing data and phones that sleep with the fishes.

I always find it strange that at some point before they launch the case that their solicitor doesn't sit them down and ask if they have some hugely implicating bitchy chat thread on some form of messaging that would come out in discovery and damage their case.

It seems to happen really often, in that Bad Art Friend case the person claiming to be libelled had a group chat trashing the other party, Johnny Depp had text messages with Paul Bettany talking about murdering Amber Heard and raping her corpse, and now Rebecca Vardy with these admissions.

Both utter airheads.

I never get how CR gets such sympathy....... she stays with Wayne not for money but for status. As Mrs Rooney, she gets VIP escorts through airports, VIP concert tickets, venues to open for her, charity nights out, paying for paps to follow her on her coffee/fake gym sessions ........ as the ex Mrs Rooney, she'll get nada. It's not about money or family for her and never has been.

How do you know this? Have you spoken to her personally? CR comes from a very tight knit Irish Catholic family and as such, her views about marriage may be different. CR has a young family and she is not stupid. And no one outside a marriage imho, has the right to sit in judgement about it, unless you are one of the two married people involved.

The money wasted on the reputations of women who serve no useful purpose but managed to marry money infuriates me.

My thoughts exactly, surely in the 21st century we are beyond a woman being merely an appendage to the man she sleeps with? Neither seems to have any pride in themselves. Why do they need 'assistants' etc., who do they think they are?

Coleen Rooney and her family always came across well to me.
Oh that we all had the cash to defend our reputations. Maybe with her husband having being a right idiot over the years she values her own reputation the more? Who knows how the inner workings of someone else's mind go. 🤷

Also, I don't think CR is with Wayne for the money. They have a rake of kids so if she divorced him she'd get a mega wedge. I think the poor sap genuinely loves him, and I suspect she comes from an old school 'stand by your man' ethos.
