Phone dropped in the North Sea? Everything 'unfortunately' wiped from devices?

YABU - those things really were totally coincidental that happened just after they were told to hand them in

YANBU yeah ...right...

What a pair of idiots. One smugly thought she was very clever with her trapping tactics and the evasive wording (which she thought would let her off the hook) of her ill-advised public admonition. The other likewise smugly thought she was clever for going to these utterly ridiculous lengths in retaliation, then quite literally adopting a 'get in the sea' approach when incriminating evidence on her devices comes to light.

Were it not for the entertainment value no one barring these two twits would give a stuff about their reputation. The mud would have dried and been brushed off years ago.

In the meantime, grabbing some popcorn ...

They're quite happy for their DH's to have affairs and be shown up for it, yet most women I know think less of them for staying with a cheater. But yes, status is more important to them. Gives such a bad image to young women or men. Stay with a partner (especially if married) and it's ok if they're wealthy or you don't want it to be made public as long as you can keep you cushy life and gym/Wag lifestyle... hmm.

@Gonnagetgoing Surely CR would get an absolute fortune in any divorce and would easily be able to afford her own cushy life and gym lifestyle? It's hardly as if she's going to be looking for a job to make sure her bills are paid, is it? I also don't think she's any more responsible for what people think about her than any other woman who makes life choices that not everyone would agree with. In fact, playing devil's advocate (and for the avoidance of doubt I'm merely being an arse here, it's not what I think at all) does that mean it's even worse when women whose husbands are not rich and famous stay with those husbands after they cheat? After all, surely they have no reason at all, given there's no money.

I don't know CR and I can't say I think about her at all in my daily life, but she didn't go footballer hunting and I think that is worth repeating.

NB. people are likely commenting on this when they might not otherwise because it's currently showing up in the trending topics.

nauticant · 09/02/2022 10:47

I always find it strange that at some point before they launch the case that their solicitor doesn't sit them down and ask if they have some hugely implicating bitchy chat thread on some form of messaging that would come out in discovery and damage their case.

Reasonably competent lawyers do ask this kind of question. However, when the client is rich and narcissistic, they often don't bother too much with niceties like telling the truth.

ESGdance · 09/02/2022 10:49

Going by this thread the irony will be that RV will have paid to boost CR reputation through her libel case.

@DrSbaitso

Exactly, it is other people’s dirty linen washed in public, and that is always worth a gawk.

It's the legal battle that's making it gawk worthy for me. If it was just a public slanging match I wouldn't care. But the fact that we never know what the next legal call will be, and now we've got mysteriously vanishing data and phones that sleep with the fishes.

Clearly Vardy needs to be played by Al Pacino!

Yes, that’s it for me, too. Most high-profile legal cases that get reported in detail in the media are either horrible crimes with devastating consequences or corporate snoozefests, so it’s actually kind of interesting to see a legal case where you can see an aspect of the law and some fine legal minds put to work on something that is in itself so thoroughly silly.

I have met Rebekah Vardy a few times some years back and she struck me as a deeply aggressive personality.

luckylavender · 09/02/2022 10:54

Team Rooney. And for people commenting on Colleen's barrage - Jamie Vardy is no saint

"I always find it strange that at some point before they launch the case that their solicitor doesn't sit them down and ask if they have some hugely implicating bitchy chat thread on some form of messaging that would come out in discovery and damage their case."

I can pretty much guarantee that RV will have been advised by her legal team that the disclosure issues paint her in about as bad a light as possible and she should settle this claim very quickly. However, some clients are extremely headstrong and will not take the advice they are given, believing that somehow their version of events will be accepted by the Court. Another example that springs to mind is Prince Andrew.

disconnected101 · 09/02/2022 10:59

@AndAnotherNewOne

The money wasted on the reputations of women who serve no useful purpose but managed to marry money infuriates me.
@AndAnotherNewOne weren't C & W childhood sweethearts?

Yes deluded vexatious narcs do this - as PP said the courts see these unfiltered unhinged characters all the time and will deal with them appropriately alongside the evidence base.

These types are used to bull dozing through other people lives without any consequences but court will be a new learning experience for her.

Dyrene · 09/02/2022 11:06

@AndAnotherNewOne weren't C & W childhood sweethearts?

Apparently she was an extremely prescient gold digger. She got out her crystal ball as a child and knew she’d better bag him early. 🙄

It is all very entertaining though. It helps that it really doesn’t matter. It’s proper fluff as things go. Yet with courtroom drama.

RitaFires · 09/02/2022 11:07

I think the manner in which the evidence was destroyed by tossing the phone in to the North Sea is so hilariously over the top that it's going to make the case more memorable so people who would have forgot about Wagatha Christie are going to have this bizarre detail lodged in their memory for a long time.

What a ridiculous own goal Rebecca Vardy has scored here. Well done to Colleen Rooney for holding her ground on this, it's brought us all a little bit of entertainment.

Dyrene · 09/02/2022 11:08

I am very much enjoying how RV’s own legal action is doing more to damage her reputation than CR ever could on her own. It’s a wonderful irony.

I bet her lawyers have lots of interesting things to say in private.

Cravey · 09/02/2022 11:10

Team Colleen for me. I know RV, she's not a nice person at all. She's been the same since she was a teenager and hasn't changed. I'm also pretty sure she's sold stories for a long time. The lady she's working with isn't much better.

veevee04 · 09/02/2022 11:12

It's just pathetic women who have never done a day's work in their entire lives clogging up the courts with their shite. Who cares.

I agree double own goal - ruining her own reputation and also raising the profile of CR who everyone is siding with…..and paying millions of £££££ of her own money to do so.

Don’t think it will go to penalties!

JohnStonesMissus · 09/02/2022 11:14

I've always thought that RV gave off this mean girl, bully vibe..

Beefcurtains79 · 09/02/2022 11:15

Didn’t Coleens family also adopt a severely disabled child who was originally in care?
Those gold digging bastards eh?

nauticant · 09/02/2022 11:16

Posters seem to be under the impression that it is a lawyer who decide whether a legal case will proceed. A competent lawyer will give a broad outline of the strength of a case. Sometimes a client will walk away from launching a very strong case and sometimes they will insist on launching a very weak case for vanity reasons.

Remember Oscar Wilde's downfall. He caused it himself by choosing to sue the Marquess of Queensberry for having addressed Wilde on a calling card as a "Somdomite". Wilde could easily have ignored this goad, and not destroyed himself.

I have no interest in football or celebs, but people destroying their reputations by foolishly charging into ego-motivated defamation actions is one of the best spectator sports going.

DrSbaitso · 09/02/2022 11:22

I wondered if it would be hard to find a solicitor for a terrible case, but I suppose if they're getting paid, a job's a job.

thecatsthecats · 09/02/2022 11:25

I always find it strange that at some point before they launch the case that their solicitor doesn't sit them down and ask if they have some hugely implicating bitchy chat thread on some form of messaging that would come out in discovery and damage their case.

I had to deal with solicitors through work once who were tearing their hair out because our opposition was representing himself, badly misunderstanding the law in the process, and thus refusing to mediate on the grounds of laws he was totally misapplying - whilst sending them patronising emails telling them how to do their jobs.

There's a scary type of person out there that thinks this way.

BurntO · 09/02/2022 11:25

Colleen totally caught her out. It’s embarrassing, just come clean and move on.

VapeVamp12 · 09/02/2022 11:26

@Mrsjayy

She was horrible on I'm a celeb showed herself up as a "mean girl"
Thats what I came here to say. As soon as CR shared the outing message about RV I 100% believed it to be true. RV is a nasty bully.
deleteasappropriate · 09/02/2022 11:26

I think it's unfair to describe them as airheads. Vardy is obviously a leech of the worst kind, making money off selling personal stories. Rooney had the rug pulled from under her by what she thought was a close friend selling private stories about her. I think she did the right thing.

Does anyone remember the fallout from the phone hacking enquiry? The number of people who said it made them paranoid, that they fell out with friends and relatives because they thought they were selling stories about them? It ruined relationships for real people, this is the same. How awful must it be to not know who to trust. I think Colleen did the right thing, and she should be proud that she stood up and pointed the finger at her.
