Also CR said it was RV’s IG account rather than RV.

Journalists need to protect their sources. It's vital to a free press, and also to ensuring that people will still talk to them.

Courts might try to force journalists to reveal their sources but it would need to be a really exceptional situation... and they still might opt for prison instead.

The "..it was RV's Instagram account" rather than RV personally so it's not a libel on her personally defence has been run earlier in the process and failed, as I recall the court found that people would have interpreted CR's words as accusing RV personally.

I'm actually pleased for Coleen that the truth is out there-
she was right to trust her instincts about the vile, very thirsty RV.

RV comes across as a throughly unlikeable person and constantly plays the victim-which I find so reprehensible when she is rubbing her hands together gleefully and plotting against Coleen-just as Coleen suspected.

That's because they did. It was only the end reveal that suggested she was accusing an account. She mentioned "someone who I trusted" and an "account/individual". Nobody reading that would have thought she wasn't accusing Vardy personally.

I'd wonder why she hadn't got legal advice on the wording, but I guess every legal expert would have just advised her not to go there at all. A public accusation was always going to get messy.

She is sueing CR for saying something that evidence suggests might actually be true.
Why not just apologise? She’s not bright is she?
Or is it that no publicity is bad publicity and she’s hoping for more exposure over this to further her (non existent) career?

Yes it's difficult to run a "it's not libel because people won't have thought X" defence when there are a zillion Twitter reaction posts the other side can point to all saying "OMG! X is definitely true!"

I do wonder about the people who "don't understand why anyone cares". Not caring personally is one thing, but if you can't see why a story like this: filled with twists and turns and eye-catching detail might be interesting then have you actually met any human beings?

She's hinging on Rooney having to prove it was literally Vardy herself who passed the stories to the Sun. She, and not any seraph.

And for a while it looked as though Rooney couldn't possibly prove that. But now...

IANAL, but I'd be surprised if Vardy can escape this by proving it was her Able Seaman PA who did it, if it was on Vardy’s order and with her full cooperation. I don't know, though. Interested to see.
