To ask what you’re doing awake post-midnight? Part 2: Insomnia Strikes Back

5YearsLeft · 05/02/2022 11:24

Bit awkward to start this in the middle of the day, but I wanted to be able to link it on the old thread before it completely fills. Meanwhile, even though right now it’s not post-midnight, if you’re having a day-after hangover from insomnia, feel free to post. Whether it’s from poorly children or babies or pets or OHs, whether it’s grief or fear or anxiety or other losses, whether it’s work stress or home stress or just LIFE stress, we get it. You’re not yelling into the void; you’re sharing with people who have been stuck wide awake, too.

@5YearsLeft thanks. It’s really horrible- no wonder sleep deprivation is used as a form of torture! Mine is 5 weeks now and counting.
I managed to get back off last night I until around 6pm with the help of some night nurse but it’s just not the same as natural sleep.Sad

MrsGlum · 18/02/2022 06:47

6am that is..

Wallywobbles · 18/02/2022 07:03

Unexpected birth this morning. Two ewes are ready to pop, but the jumpy bugger gave birth instead. One of twins sadly didn't make it.

Photo of the ram looking over at his new baby through the bars.

Got to take my eldest to work, not looking forward to taking her.

catwomando · 18/02/2022 07:43

@Wallywobbles I love that pic of daddy sheep looking at his baby ❤️

5YearsLeft · 18/02/2022 09:32

@Wallywobbles Ah so sorry to here one of the twins didn’t make it, but that photo of the ram looking through the bars at his baby is really amazing.

@vodkaredbullgirl Sounds like a tough thing to deal with, having to take one of the children to work with you. I really hope it turns out as well as possible. I’ll have my fingers crossed for you.

@MrsGlum I know; no doubt in my mind why they use it as a torture method! And I do know what you mean, where most medications can just never exactly “make” the normal sleep cycle feeling.

Well, the sun has risen, we’ve survived until Friday proper, and thread is “closed” until tonight (thought stop by whenever you want). I’m off to the botanical gardens with the husband since today is supposed to be the nicest weather we’ll have for yonks, to take some pics of spring flowers.

5YearsLeft · 18/02/2022 10:06

Just kidding; my breathing isn’t good enough for the botanical garden. I had to test it before we could go and my peak flow (how hard you can exhale) numbers are really down, practically in the garbage bins. I guess we’ll hope the warm weather today makes the flowers bloom a little ways and then maybe bundle ourselves up and go see them tomorrow. But I won’t lie and pretend I’m not disappointed af. Gotten back under the duvet to feel sorry for myself for a bit. Sigh.

Really sorry about the baby @Wallywobbles

Is the ram a good dad? He looks very interested!

Wallywobbles · 18/02/2022 16:10

@Booklover3 he's very funny. He grew up with a group where I was hand rearing one lamb and all the others would steal from the bottle. So they have no fear of humans. Not great in a ram to be honest.

He's very handsome so I've kept him to sell at 20 months so he's worth more as a breeding Suffolk ram.

Wallywobbles · 18/02/2022 17:57

@Booklover3 he's a funny chap. He grew up in a group of lambs where I was bottle feeding one and all the group would try and steal the bottled milk. So he's not scared of humans which is not ideal in a ram.

He is very handsome and so we've kept him to sell as a breeding ram this year. He's proved his worth now so we can sell him for a decent profit. His Dad was lovely too but produced ridiculously large lambs.

Chichimcgee · 18/02/2022 22:20

How is everyone this evening?
So sorry @Wallywobbles m, it can’t be easy losing a baba.

Have you had any luck with your bloods @5YearsLeft ?

3G (yes that bad lol) is very patchy and we don’t have wifi…. Because after a few hiccups we are in our new home!! Absolutely exhausted, in pain, on a v comfortable sofa for the night so hoping to get some sleep. Thinking of you all Brew

5YearsLeft · 18/02/2022 23:15

Had trouble breathing today which means I’ve been napping all evening, so I’m just going to open the thread early. This is the after-midnight (sometimes slightly before, sometimes slightly after-after) thread, and if you’re struggling with anything that keeps you awake, you’re welcome here. If anything hurts you or stresses you, if you need to talk, or just like the quiet, you’re always invited to share whatever you want or need to talk about with the thread. We’ve got room for everything, from talking about grief to new house celebrations to pictures of baby lambs.

@Chichimcgee Speaking of new house celebrations, hooray! Just in the NICK of time! It wouldn’t surprise me if now that you’re in the house, your body knows it’s “safe” and the baby comes any minute.

@Wallywobbles Can’t believe I really never knew anything about sheep all this time. That’s wild about your ram’s unique personality, and being able to sell him this year as he’s been so “good” at his job.

OH! And in answer to the blood situation, yes! I have an appointment Tuesday, though this time with my rheumatology consultant (I don’t care who does it now as long as it just gets done, plus I need to show him my incredibly swollen fingers since that’s his department) and it’s at 9am which is early enough for me to go fasting so I can go straight to get bloods done, and then once they’re back, usually within 24 hours, I can begin lowering my steroids. Also! Hopefully the nurse that almost always gets my vein at the rheumatology lab won’t have retired as well. That’s one more blow than I could stand.

Tallisimo · 19/02/2022 00:15

@5YearsLeft fingers crossed for next Tuesday!
@Chichimcgee fantastic news! Hope you all get a good night’s sleep and can start a happy new chapter straight away.
@Wallywobbles am loving the pix and tales of your sheep and ram. My current bedding features sheep - I’m rather fond of them!

AlwaysLatte · 19/02/2022 00:23

I don't have insomnia but life is busy (family of 6 plus puppy, plus elderly parents I'm heavily involved with) so I love the real quiet after everyone has gone to bed and usually grab an extra hour before I go up.

vodkaredbullgirl · 19/02/2022 00:24

Been a mad kind of day, 1 fence panel gone, felt off the shed roof as well as 1 of the slates from the shed.

Loving the lamb pics.

5YearsLeft · 19/02/2022 00:27

@Tallisimo Your bedding sounds awesome!!! And fingers crossed it’s a lower pain night for you tonight.

@AlwaysLatte Oh gosh, yes, with eight people and a pup needing your time, definitely understandable to grab an hour for yourself round about midnight. We’ve had a few other people in the thread who find this time of night (or 1-2am) is simply when they can just have a few quiet, peaceful moments for themselves.

OP posts:
5YearsLeft · 19/02/2022 01:24

@vodkaredbullgirl Oh no! I’m assuming that’s from the storm? Glad you’re safe, though.

5YearsLeft · 19/02/2022 03:18

Going to try sleeping here and hoping my breathing will be good enough for the botanical garden tomorrow. Good luck all.

catwomando · 19/02/2022 07:12

@5YearsLeft so sorry to hear about your breathing problems. That sounds pretty horrible. Hopefully you will get to the gardens today and I look forward to some pics.

@Chichimcgee this is all too exciting. Wishing you, your DS and your bump a very, very happy new home. what are the plans for today?

@Tallisimo I hope you had a better night.

I was awake briefly last night but my arm was too sore to type and I was a bit grumpy so decided not to inflict that on you all Grin. Yesterday was a weird one with all the storm stuff. We lost some fencing. My poor mum though, lost fences and ended up with holes in her roof. Topped off with no power for hours so no heating, light or internet , and both her phones stopped working (which was a worry). Her lovely neighbours stepped in though and she's now back online. We had friends stuck on trains for hours and one on a train hit by a 🌲.

Off to see friends today, including (thrillingly) dinner out out with cocktails🍸 Haven't done that in so long, it will be such a treat Grin That said I'm absolutely knackered and now need to muster the energy to get up, dressed and made up, packed, breakfasted and do the journey, when all I really want to do,is stay in bed ConfusedGrin it will be so worth the effort though and I'm so lucky to be able to,have such lovely people in my life, and the opportunity to go out.

Have a good day everyone

5YearsLeft · 19/02/2022 23:20

Hello and welcome yet again to the after-midnight thread; well, actually, we’re post-00:00 Swiss time, though I know we’re actually 23:00 on UK time. Last night was quite slow so it may just be a slow weekend, if tonight is quite slow as well.

As per usual, whatever is keeping you awake, you’re always welcome to share it here. Sometimes just sharing it makes it not feel so heavy and you can, if not sleep, at least rest. If it’s wrestling with grief, stress, pain, anxiety, someone in your life doing poorly, fears seeming so much bigger in the night, doing a work shift, just plain insomnia of any kind, or if you’re awake because this is the only peace and quiet in your whole day - this is the thread for you.

@catwomando I hope you had a lovely day today, and I’m so glad your mum made it through the storm and is back online!

Sadly, today was another thwarted attempt to go to the botanical garden. I’m going to get there soon, sigh. I just still feel not so great.

OP posts:
catwomando · 19/02/2022 23:59

@5YearsLeft you will get there. A woman of your resolve and power will be there before you know it x

5YearsLeft · 20/02/2022 00:14

@catwomando I will eventually win against that damn botanical garden. I hope your cocktails went well!

MrsGlum · 20/02/2022 00:36

@5YearsLeft I’m sorry you’ve not been feeling well today. I haven’t been on this thread for very long but you do such a fantastic job of supporting everyone whilst experiencing your own problems. I hope you feel well enough to make it to the botanical garden soon.
I’ve had a bad day myself too. Terrible anxiety and panic attacks about my problems with the AD med I’m withdrawing cold turkey from and huge regrets about going onto them in the first place. They’ve caused me so many horrible physical problems in just two months of being on them. I keep going over and over in my head that if I’d not started them I would now be back to my usual healthy self and able to sleep properly again. I’ll never forgive myself for not only what I have done to my body but also what I’ve put my family through with it all. I now realise that my GP should have put me on HRT instead of an AD when my mental health and anxiety surfaced last year.
My insomnia is a direct result of the AD withdrawal which has completely set me off into another MH crisis.Sad
Sorry that’s all a bit rambly but my backstory is long and complicated but essentially It’s resulted in me having physical and mental problems that were totally preventable had I recognised my own problems and my GP had diagnosed and prescribed for me correctly.

Atourwitsend · 20/02/2022 01:15

being kept awake by pain fron tendonitis in my shoulder, due to many years.of reaching to get things in my job, just can't get comfy. Have painkillers and seen physio just waiting to see if exercises work

Jumpingintomenopause · 20/02/2022 01:20

I am lying next to a contentedly snoring DH. Turns out sex knocked him out and gave me a horrible hot flush so I have just spent 30min sitting on the cool tiles in our bathroom Blush. Menopause sucks!
