To ask what you’re doing awake post-midnight? Part 2: Insomnia Strikes Back

5YearsLeft · 05/02/2022 11:24

Bit awkward to start this in the middle of the day, but I wanted to be able to link it on the old thread before it completely fills. Meanwhile, even though right now it’s not post-midnight, if you’re having a day-after hangover from insomnia, feel free to post. Whether it’s from poorly children or babies or pets or OHs, whether it’s grief or fear or anxiety or other losses, whether it’s work stress or home stress or just LIFE stress, we get it. You’re not yelling into the void; you’re sharing with people who have been stuck wide awake, too.

@Wulfenite that must be so awful, you enjoy your tv Flowers

autienotnaughty · 17/02/2022 04:04

Fell asleep at 11, wide awake at 3. Wind is keeping me up.

catwomando · 17/02/2022 04:29

Well( hello everyone . Again. Slept them woke.

@Chichimcgee forgetting everything about pregnancy is one of mother nature's gifts. I think that if we remembered all the gory details,we'd never do it more than once 🤣 . When it's real labour, you'll know. Did the numpty man find those keys yet?

@Wulfenite it will get better with time, I'm sure. It must be shock to the system on so many levels, and bloody anxiety skews everything twice as hard. Glad you came on to chat as it's always nice to welcome someone else.

@autienotnaughty when you said that wind was keeping you up, having just read @Chichimcgee post about coeliac disease, my mind immediately leapt to you needing a restorative giant fart 🤣🤣🤣 sorry about that Blush. As you were.

autienotnaughty · 17/02/2022 04:32

😂😂😂yes could go either way 🌬

jowly · 17/02/2022 04:54

Hi all..

So I've been awake since 3.. 🙄

Isn't it just so boring.. being awake in the night. Especially if you're trying not to wake the rest of your household. I mean, ive read the news, wordled, read a few threads, had a bit of a mooch around the internet for some summer clothes (unsuccessfully). What else do you do?

In between I've tried to get back off.. and it's a duvet on, duvet off, need a throw, don't need a throw night. Just how can you be hot and cold at the same time?!

I'm lucky in that I don't have to get up for work anymore; falling in to a deep sleep half an hour before my alarm woke me for work was dreadful.

On another positive the wind had definitely dropped and a nice sunny day is forecast... before we get Fridays storm.

Hope you're all snoozing....

5YearsLeft · 17/02/2022 06:47

@Chichimcgee Well, it’s been 12 years since you did it! You can’t remember it all.

@Wulfenite Ph that’s awful. And it’s not your fault. If you’re miserable, you’re miserable! And three years Is long time to be miserable. I wish I had a good answer. I’m assuming you can’t just leave and “go home.” Sometimes all you can do for now is follow the incredibly old and sometimes very annoying advice: If you’re going through hell, keep going. Sometimes it just all you can do for the moment, though I wish I had a better answer.

@autienotnaughty Oh no, another night of interrupted sleep. Sorry!

@jowly I know what you mean; I’ve definitely mooched around of a long night and still found it lacking. Though I usually start reading books and that almost always helps me get rid of some time. We’re supposed to have a beautiful day soon here too, high of 14 but some rain today and high of 17 and sunny Friday!

@catwomando Do hope you got some rest!

5YearsLeft · 17/02/2022 08:51

Well, the sun is up so the thread is “closed,” though of course, you can use it any time you want, to talk (whinge) about exhaustion or leave messages if you need or want support.

I hope everyone got a tiny bit of sleep, and if no sleep, then at least a little bit of rest.

Chichimcgee · 17/02/2022 20:13

@catwomando 🤣 Mr Numpty had to organise forced entry and change the locks but we get the keys tomorrow!! So excited to have a home!!

I think labour is wishful thinking due to how uncomfortable I am!

5YearsLeft · 17/02/2022 20:26

@jowly HA. I may make it the lock screen on my phone.

@Chichimcgee CONGRATULATIONS! 🎊🎉 Just in the nick of time, too.

Hey all. It’s the after-midnight thread. Absolutely everyone is welcome. It’s Friday!!!! Sigh. We survived another week, living mostly on just our wits and tea (coffee for some of you).

If you’re awake tonight, the thread is here. Every one of these “opening”s includes a bit of a generic list of why you might be awake, but we’re each going through something different - every bereavement is different, every work stress is different, every person suffers from peri-menopause or pain or toothache differently, and on and on. What we have in common is that we all come here just to let it out, so do that as often as you need to.

Just come up to bed after watching the film, Munich: The Edge of War. Decent enough. So, am now just flicking through mumsnet, then I'll listen to a song that's been in my head all evening, then I'll pop off to sleep. Hope everyone gets a decent night's sleepBrew

5YearsLeft · 18/02/2022 00:26

@Want2beme Ah, definitely better than having the song play in your head 37 times while you’re trying to fall asleep. Hope the sleep goes well! I’m considering a cup of tea.

5YearsLeft · 18/02/2022 01:14

Wow! Incredibly quiet night on the thread. I do hope this means that everyone is getting some sleep, fingers crossed.

Tallisimo · 18/02/2022 01:44

Sorry to disappoint you @5YearsLeft … I’m back 😂
I have been quiet the last couple of nights - although I was tossing and turning and waking up lots, I wasn’t in so much pain so I was ignoring the lure of my book and social media. But tonight, the pain is back with a vengeance and I don’t know where to put myself. Nothing is comfortable, not lying or standing or sitting on the bed or the sofa, or walking around, or stretching ..
You get the gist.

Sorry to hear about the various woes from posters familiar and new - but @Chichimcgee, what great news on the house front. So happy for you!

Chichimcgee · 18/02/2022 01:48

Unfortunately no sleep for me, intense back pain for me and ds has tooth ache. He has a couple of ‘shark teeth’ where the adult tooth grows in front of the baby tooth and his gums look so sore bless him.
Also awake due to excitement about moving, worrying about whether ive done everything I need to, it has nothing at all in the house so I’m relying on various deliveries to get there. Also trying to figure out the overcomplicated system for registering with the doctor and midwife, if I manage against the odds to get registered and an appointment next week it will be a close call as I’m due next week! Lots of stressful overthinking!

How are you today? Have you heard anymore about your bloods?

Chichimcgee · 18/02/2022 01:50

@Tallisimo you would think they would be able to invent a painkiller that actually works by now wouldn’t you! I’m sorry you’re in so much pain.
I’m very lucky that for most pain paracetamols work for me, it’s just migraines where nothing touches it

5YearsLeft · 18/02/2022 01:52

@Tallisimo DAMMIT! We were soooooo close. Grin That said, of course there’s not much, and by not much I mean nothing, funny about your pain at all. It’s terrible that it’s back. I’m sorry you’re having such an overwhelmingly dreadful night with it. I’m reading Death in the Stocks, by Georgette Heyer, and it’s a really cozy mystery with some humor with just a hint of romance, set in the 1930s. I don’t know if you like cozy books to distract you at all? I’m up with pain, too, so I completely understand. Does heat on it help at all? Maybe not the primary pain, but perhaps might help with the muscles tensing up in secondary pain around the initial pain, if you know what I mean?

OP posts:
Booklover3 · 18/02/2022 01:56

worked too much over the past three days... now buzzing because I'm way passed overtired

5YearsLeft · 18/02/2022 02:00

@Booklover3 That seems incredibly unfair, that you should be so tired that you’re unable to sleep, but I completely understand what you mean. I’m sure a lot of us on this thread have been near tears at one point or another from tiredness, and it makes you feel about five years old. I do hope maybe after some time to unwind with a favorite book or film or (decaf) tea, you’ll be able to get at best some sleep or at worst some rest. And I do hope work isn’t so insane for you next week!

Tallisimo · 18/02/2022 02:09

@5YesrsLeft heat is lovely if it’s when I’m in the shower and can reach everywhere. Can’t stand in there all night though 😂 My little sausage dog water bottle isn’t much help. I do love reading and it’s what I do in the small hours when I’m.not on this thread!

@Chichimcgee yes, you would think they’d be able to zap pain but it’s obviously not an exact science. I’m on the cocodamol/ gabapentin cocktail so we’ll see if it has any effect as I up the dose of the latter.

@Booklover3 it’s h9rrid when you get to that stage, isn’t it. Hope you can at least get warm and comfy, and give your brain a chance to power down.

Booklover3 · 18/02/2022 02:23

Just had a nosy on here and a glass of milk. Going to try and sleep now before the winds start! New mystery hour podcast which I like.

My own fault as I'm self employed but need to take the work when it comes in. Next weeks not looking as manic! Yippie!

Hope you all get to sleep soon!

catwomando · 18/02/2022 03:43

Morning!

Am now paying the price for a busy day by being woken up by painful knee (you did too much walking in the sunshine!!!!!!) , and elbow (what on earth were you thinking kneeding dough for dinner?) . So here I am. Daft cat has decided to lay on the bad arm side so is looking slightly peeved that she's not getting strokes. 🐈‍⬛

Had a lovely day -big therapeutic walk in the sunshine, dash to shops and driving lesson with DD (on the actual road today and she was utterly thrilled ❤️), a sleep, then pooling about tidying the house. Cooked a lovely vegan dinner fir dear friend who is staying. Some wine too. Just checked stats -19k steps so no wonder knee is complaining. All of this not working is keeping me so busy

@Chichimcgee WOOOOOOOOOO! That's brilliant news 🥳🤩🤓👏💪🏾🧞‍♀️👯‍♂️💃🕺🏼 and all of the emojis celebrate

@5YearsLeft how are you ?

Apologies for typos - typing this single digit left hand as it's too painful,yo use the right. Ha!

MrsGlum · 18/02/2022 04:08

I am still not sleeping following my rather rapid withdrawal from an antidepressant. It’s torture! I am lucky if I get 3-4 hours a night and that’s usually only if chemically induced.
I am so tired I cannot function at all.
I miss being able to snuggle up at 10pm knowing I had 8 hours sleep ahead of me.
Now feels like a distant memory. Sad

5YearsLeft · 18/02/2022 05:15

@Tallisimo Ah, yeah, I’m using a heated blanket. Works MUCH better than my moose hot water bottle. Bud I do realize not everyone just had a heated blanket sitting about. I recommend it, though!

@Booklover3 Good luck with sleep before the winds!

@catwomando What a day! And yet doing all these things still don’t put you to sleep… insomnia really is the biggest jerk. But at least it sounds like a nice day (a friend staying, a huge walk, helping DD with driving) so that’s nothing to sneeze at, even if it doesn’t come with sleep, sadly.

@MrsGlum Oh gosh, I’m sorry you’re still having this situation with the antidepressants. It’s absolute crap and incredibly unfair (like so many insomnias) that you just HAPPEN to the one who had the side effect, had to quit cold turkey, and now deal with this. I don’t know how long it’s been, but it wouldn’t be surprising if takes quite a bit of time. Don’t give up! I wish you all the luck hopefully getting at least a bit of rest tonight.
