To hate my lounge carpet? Honest opinions on my lounge carpet that was laid yesterday

We wanted something neutral but practical as we have two dogs. So we chose this one which was laid yesterday. Because its two tone it looks totally different in my lounge than it did in the showroom! We even took a small sample home!

My heart sank when the fitters left. It looks like it can't decide what colour it is..it's a kind of mink at night and during the day it has a silver/grey look to it. We had the same carpet laid in our bedroom which looks stunning as our bedroom is a champagne/ dark brown theme. But in the lounge against the pastel colours of the ottoman and mauve curtains I just don't know what to think. Honest opinions please and also some ideas on tweaks on what I can do?

I do like it, I think you were probably so used to the previous cream carpet that it's going to take you a little while to get used to a darker colour but you will eventually. It looks cosy.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 04/02/2022 13:28

I don’t like it. It would drive me crazy. The hoover marks. The feet marks. It will settle I’m sure, but it’s a shame when you spend out and it’s not right.

Echobelly · 04/02/2022 13:29

I think it's fine, they always look 'blotchy' at first, but then it'll settle.

Whatdramain2022 · 04/02/2022 13:29

There's something not right about the look of it. You can't do anything about it and rugs won't work. Brighter curtains and cushions might detract from it. I'd have had a wood floor with dogs.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 04/02/2022 13:30

It's not terrible.

IDidntKnowItWasAParty · 04/02/2022 13:31

I think it looks lovely OP!

Calvinlookingforhobbes · 04/02/2022 13:34

@Evanted76 where is your tartan coffee table type thing from?

DomesticatedZombie · 04/02/2022 13:34

@Evanted76

Here you go!
Lovely! Just a suggestion: What if you dyed one or both of your dogs?
holliem91 · 04/02/2022 13:35

I love it. You have a beautiful lounge.

Allsorts1 · 04/02/2022 13:35

I think it’s a nice colour and it will settle, however it doesn’t quite match all the yellow tones - it would look good with more neutral/warm/grey tones. It suits the purple curtains and the purple pillows. For a room makeover I would get the ottoman reupholstered with a textured linen in white and I would paint the wall a more neutral shade. Basically do all you can to get rid of the yellows. Sofa might be trickier/more expensive but again if could move away from yellow.

Wonmoretime · 04/02/2022 13:37

The pattern is unusual but not hideous. It looks odd against ottoman , the patterns clash. Can you put a plain neutral throw on it to blend in a bit

TheHaka · 04/02/2022 13:37

At least it’s not grey, but I wouldn’t have brown or beige either. But if you chose it you must’ve liked it at some point. Sometimes you just need to get used to things.

StormBaby · 04/02/2022 13:37

I have this exact carpet and it looks lush when it’s freshly hoovered. Rest of the time it’s a mess

picklemewalnuts · 04/02/2022 13:38

Do a photo from the window looking in. The light makes a huge difference. I think the curtains are fine, the ottoman could have a diagonal throw on it, maybe.

Have you got any fabric with all the tones in it? Something that works with everything? You could make cushion covers/throws/tray cloths with that to tie things together.

ComeOnSpringtime · 04/02/2022 13:38

@Evanted76 I could do with the measurement of the ottoman, if you don't know/can't measure the room size. I can work out a rough size of the room with that. Again, you don't have to.

OfficeManagerFingersCrossed · 04/02/2022 13:38

The carpet honestly looks lovely. It’s just different to what you’re used to. It’s a much nicer tone than all the silver/grey ones.

Talk to me about your dogs!! What breed are they? Do they moult much? They look to have a bit of poodle in them, they’re beautiful!! I’ve been researching the best dog to get as I have allergies, so any advice would be smashing!!

Goodnewsbadnews · 04/02/2022 13:39

@Evanted76

It just goes to show the colours in the photos are not true to form. The ottoman is a pink/pale grey/blue check. Sofa is cream. I've just started hoovering the last bits of the carpet up and taken another quick photo. And here is a photo of the same carpet in the bedroom. Carpet is from Tapi and from the Aspire Range called Spanish Ochre. If that wasn't bad enough, when the fitters were leaving, they reversed into my car that was parked on my driveway so the whole experience has been awful! I know it's not the fitters fault I don't like the carpet but we've been waiting for months for the carpet to be fitted.. and it's so nice getting a new carpet isn't it? New carpet smell and all that. It used to be a cream carpet in the lounge that was just not practical.
I think seeing this angle of the lounge, the biggest impact you might have plus probably cheapest and easiest in making the carpet colour more suited would be to ditch the yellow tones in the wall. Go for a nice neutral off white colour - this would really modernise the room as well! Could be a lovely refresh in time for spring! The ottoman actually looks quite nice on the carpet from this angle so I think the biggest stickler is the wall.
picklemewalnuts · 04/02/2022 13:40

Sorry, the rest of the thread had t loaded when I asked for more pictures. It looks much better this way round. It's only the ottoman now, imo. You could reupholster the base of it really easily.

Dillydollydingdong · 04/02/2022 13:40

Where did you get it? I want some.

Goodnewsbadnews · 04/02/2022 13:41

Maybe something like this? You can order samples in big stickers for the wall which is a great way to test the colours www.lick.com/uk/product/white-02-matt-paint

WithANameLikeDaniCalifornia · 04/02/2022 13:42

First world problems.

The carpet looks fine btw.

Just10moreminutesplease · 04/02/2022 13:42

I think it’s nice. It just needs to be trodden in and hoovered a few times and it will settle down 😊.

Luna9 · 04/02/2022 13:43

Carpet is fine but doesn’t go with sofa colour nor the coffee table colour, it does go with the grey armchair.

jowly · 04/02/2022 13:45

I like it.

I don't think it's 'dated' or 'granny', I'd say more timeless.

At least it's not grey x

MiniCooperLover · 04/02/2022 13:47

OK, having looked at the newer picture I've changed my mind. Initially your pictures looked like your lounge was full of old fashioned browns and dirty creams (sorry), but in the second picture with much better light I can see the carpet has a nice grey tinge to it, and your furniture works well with it. It's a nice carpet OP, don't worry about it.
