Just that really, what words appear in the tabloid press but are never used by people in everyday life.

I’ll start with:

Revellers
Tottered
Hit-maker

Show of defiance

(Going about your day)

Walkingalot · 03/02/2022 15:35

Controversial - as in 'the controversial singer, writer, comedian' etc. Everyone is 'controversial' these days it seems.

This controversial single mother of one is now about to showcase her new side parting, donning her recycled outfit of jeans and a trendy on point jumper and swiftly exit the premises to pick up her love child, from school!

EatingGreens · 03/02/2022 15:40

"Flaunting" for inhabiting a body .

Beketaten · 03/02/2022 15:42

'Stepped out' for left the house

RedToothBrush · 03/02/2022 15:51

Snowmegadon
Pingdemic
Beast from the East
Numerous other variations of the apocalypse featuring weather, disease, famine, fire, war and shortages of bog roll are also available.

Also see Cancer will kill you to death. Probably twice.

Pooch

Bungling burglar

Plunge

Braced

Midriff

Assets

derxa · 03/02/2022 16:21

Also see Cancer will kill you to death. Probably twice. Yes and fuck 'battling cancer' I didn't battle it. I went to see doctors and consultants then did what they said.

CheeseMuffin · 03/02/2022 16:38

Flaunts curves
Leggy
Recycles outfit
Meghan Markle
All grown up
Something derogatory about Germany relating to either WWII or the 1966 World Cup

“Showcased her midriff” Would Kanye ever showcase his midriff?

RandomDent · 03/02/2022 17:02

I have sport ones:
Wantaway
Plea
As in “Wantaway striker X issues ‘come-and-get-me’ plea to City and Liverpool”

RavenclawDiadem · 03/02/2022 17:05

People "taking" to something. Celebrity "taking to Instagram" or when a thread is ripped off here "mother takes to Mumsnet to...."

Hasselhoffsheadband · 03/02/2022 17:05

'Caged' meaning 'sent to prison'.

RavenclawDiadem · 03/02/2022 17:10

Also sharing children.

Dave Footballer, who shares Lee (9) and Tee (5) with his glamourous model wife Anna, and who shares twins Bee and Cee (15) with ....

This "sharing children" thing is very tabloid speak

AuntMasha · 03/02/2022 17:14

Kanye would simply ‘cut a casual figure’ as he ‘sports’ a ‘jaunty’ baseball cap from his own fashion line, whereas Julia Fox ‘sizzles’ as she ‘steps out’ in a ‘busty display’

PuppyMonkey · 03/02/2022 17:16

I love “in a bid to” - only ever said in a newspaper. Grin

Also a story that starts, for example: “The world will definitely end next Tuesday. That’s the warning from xxx Random Councillor/MP Brian Twatface.”

Love newspaper writing, used to be a local reporter and getting the structure and terms right is such an art!

ClariceQuiff · 03/02/2022 17:21

'Shock' in the sense of 'PM in Downing Street Party Shock'

BabarEnFamille · 03/02/2022 17:30

“Packing on the PDA” and “poses up a storm” make me cringe

WhatWouldKalindaDo · 03/02/2022 17:48

Exclusive
Canoodling
Romped
Tot
Pad (flat or house)

FeedMeSantiago · 03/02/2022 17:55

'Poured her curves'
'Flaunted her baby bump' (describing a pregnant woman leaving the house in a t shirt and jeans)

BringBackThinEyebrows · 03/02/2022 18:01

'Brood' for children.

whydiditalkaboutbruno · 03/02/2022 18:23

Lookalike daughter/son

whydiditalkaboutbruno · 03/02/2022 18:24

Steps out instead of go out

Orpheline · 03/02/2022 18:49
