50th birthday - reasonable expectations?

is it reasonable to expect friends / family to spend £280 on a weekend away for a 50th birthday? no children invited, so an expectation to find childcare on top (if you have them).

would you go or not?

Yes I would - my friend and I spent £1000 plus on our joint birthday weekend in NYC, it’s not like they aren’t getting anything for their money. If they can’t afford it then say no

phishy · 04/02/2022 06:57

@Darbs76 not the same thing, it was your birthday too.

Darbs76 · 04/02/2022 07:00

@phishy - I’d have still paid if it was a close friends even if not mine

User2638483 · 04/02/2022 07:08

I wouldn’t
Unless it was somewhere I genuinely wanted to go
Or, it was a group of friends I rarely saw due to distance and we met up once a year or ao for a weekend anyway.

But no not if it’s a friend that I could easily just celebrate on a night out with instead.
What is wrong with people?

Fair enough. That's not my experience, but appreciate others may have different experiences! None of my friends have ever got upset if I can't attend an event, or vice versa, that's just life. 🤷🏻‍♀️
