David Beckham reveals wife Victoria has eaten the same meal every day for 25 years

FlexibleWorkingDenied · 01/02/2022 19:22

Apparently Victoria Beckham will only ever eat grilled fish and steamed veg. Every day for 25 years. She says she won’t eat food cooked in oil, butter or sauces, red meat, or dairy.

AIBU to think life is too short to live without butter!

@emsmar she has admitted she has and does suffer with eating disorders.

megletthesecond · 01/02/2022 20:02

I expect he's taking the piss.

Although I have IBS and if I had a chef I'd possibly streamline my meals a lot.

MargotEmin · 01/02/2022 20:02

Mumsnet at its lowest

DynamiteFilledRadish · 01/02/2022 20:03

@cakeambush

It's an eating disorder being held up as admirable or aspirational. If you aren't interested in food you'll go with whatever. You won't insist on eating the same two foods every day.
This.

This being mumsnet I expect there will now be pages and pages of competitive undereaters falling over each other to pretend this is normal and admirable.

Gwenhwyfar · 01/02/2022 20:03

So many people eat the same thing for breakfast every day and take the same sandwich to work for lunch...

Chely · 01/02/2022 20:03

What a weirdo

CounsellorTroi · 01/02/2022 20:03

I’m surprised so many posters are defending this. I don’t doubt being in the public eye is tough and I suspect lots of celebrities have a very similar diet but it doesn’t mean there isn’t a degree of disordered eating involved.

I agree, I wouldn’t be surprised if quite a few celebs were functioning anorexics.

alittleje · 01/02/2022 20:03

She can eat what she likes. Who are you to judge

if he is broadcasting it then he's inviting judgement.

MargotEmin · 01/02/2022 20:04

If a wrinkly old lady living on a rustic Greek island ate this way for 25 years we wouldn't bat an eye lid

FlexibleWorkingDenied · 01/02/2022 20:04

@HangoverSquare

Presumably she sticks to her fish and veg dinner even on high days and holidays such as Christmas Day.
The article says she celebrates her birthday with a “cake” made of fruit (not a fruit cake…)

Making their body type completely unobtainable to everyday folk

I’d expect a little old lady on a Greek island to eat Greek yogurt and a bit of feta but VB doesn’t eat dairy.
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 01/02/2022 20:06

It's similar thinking to the uniform clothing many stylish women do.

Restrict your choice, and it frees your mind.

SunshineArtist · 01/02/2022 20:06

AIBU to think life is too short to live without butter!

If that’s your unreasonable, then yes, YABU.

I don’t really eat the other things you’ve listed either. I like to eat healthy meals and although I vary what I have for dinner, breakfast and lunch are often the same things.

As a pp said, I’m sure she has lots of different types of fish and veg. And that’s probably just dinner, there’s breakfast and lunch too. She looks healthy, she’s got muscle on her legs and works out.

Pixxie7 · 01/02/2022 20:06

I think she is an amazing women who has worked exceptionally hard to make a name for herself rather than rely on husband. So if she wants to live on fish and veg good for her.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 01/02/2022 20:06

Has someone been along to say 'We've lost sight of what a normal weight is" yet?

😂

Nomoreusernames1244 · 01/02/2022 20:06

I read that someone saw them in a famous higher end steak house in Los Angeles. David had a nice juicy steak. She had a plate of steamed spinach

To be fair that would be me and dh. Because I’m veggie and don’t find steaks “nice” or “juicy” Hmm. The language used around food is so judgemental. Some people like or enjoy spinach, or veg, or have a reason for choosing one dish over another.

Eating disorders are common though.

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 01/02/2022 20:06

How is eating fish and vegetables eating the same meal every day? Unless it's always the same fish and the same vegetables? There are literally dozens of possible combinations.

Peachandpearl · 01/02/2022 20:07

She's shared a lot about her food herself, apparently. That she is a big fan of fish, avocados, green smoothie, and toast with salt. But not a fan of oils, dressings, strong flavours. She'd prefer to have shrimp in lime juice with avocado, or some grilled salmon with steamed veg than anything else. Enjoys sprouted grain cereal for breakfast, or toast with smashed avocado and green smoothies. She's very thin, obviously, and always has been, but if she is an ARFID sufferer then she is managing it well, actually. Because a lot of people with that can only manage beige food and she's getting food from all the major food groups, including healthy fats to replace the oils and butters she doesn't like and plenty of fresh produce. Again, if her ED is anorexia, that she is maintaining her weight and managing to eat high calorie foods like fatty fish on a regular basis she is probably in quite stable recovery, especially if she is eating regular meals and not ever skipping dinner. So whilst I don't think this diet is normal I'm not sure it's automatically problematic either. Some people prefer to eat foods that are familiar to them and take the anxiety out of food by eating the same things regularly. It's really common to eat the same breakfast every day, and it may be that she feels more adventurous at lunch time. Who knows.

XingMing · 01/02/2022 20:07

Nice fish and a selection of steamed veg. I'd be happy with that. But I'm not excited by cakes and carbs. But also not as slender as VB.

Imissmoominmama · 01/02/2022 20:07

There are so many different kinds of fish and veg though… and seasonings.

Oily fish has good fats too.

This is only her evening meal remember.

Her insides are probably healthier than mine…

alwaysontheloo · 01/02/2022 20:07

I'm baffled by why DB feels this is anyone else's business. He loves to shoot his mouth off a lot doesn't he?
I'm not a massive VB fan but I'm definitely not a DB fan.
I don't like the way he conducts himself one little bit and this subtle running down of his wife ( when he's not exactly snowy white) is disgusting.

Butter was just a flippant example, not a specific focus Grin

I remember Hugh Jackman saying the only thing he didn't miss about Wolverine was the diet and exercise, steamed everything and breaking his body with exercise. I don't know, I think when you're in the flow of healthy eating you don't mind it, plus obviously, you feel great, but then when you fall off the wagon it would seem like a slog alright!!!

Peachandpearl · 01/02/2022 20:07

She doesn't eat any red meat, hasn't since childhood. So the steak house thing is not surprising!
