David Beckham reveals wife Victoria has eaten the same meal every day for 25 years

Apparently Victoria Beckham will only ever eat grilled fish and steamed veg. Every day for 25 years. She says she won’t eat food cooked in oil, butter or sauces, red meat, or dairy.

AIBU to think life is too short to live without butter!

I guess after 25 years of this, she simply eats because she has to. Maybe she enjoys it and was never a foodie. She looks pretty heathy on it, I have to say.

I have a friend who has been anorexic her whole life. Most days, she eats only a yoghurt and an apple. It's what works for her.

WandaWomblesaurus73 · 01/02/2022 20:17

@CovidCorvid

People have different priorities I guess. For her being slimmer is worth more than any pleasure from eating I guess.
She might have a fish fetish and it's the thing that she looooves to eat more than anything else in the world. I think I could eat pizza everyday forever but it's not a slimming thing unfortunately!
BoodleBug51 · 01/02/2022 20:17

I'd hate to see the state of her bones.

She's been horrifically thin for years.

Having said that, I admire her willpower and wish I had 1/100th of it.

Whydoesthecatalwaysdothat · 01/02/2022 20:18

Everything about VB seems a bit bland even her food!

She's not the sort of person I would be friends with. I just can't imagine looking at her miserable face while she's pushing half a lettuce leaf around her plate!

IcedPurple · 01/02/2022 20:18

@A580Hojas

"I think it shows how disciplined she is"

I think it shows what it takes to maintain a very thin body. If people don't realise this is what an awful lot of celebrities go through to be acceptably underweight in celeb world then they are fooling themselves.

I have a friend who was an actor on a British soap for a few years. Her life was utterly ruled by her diet, she could never go above a size 8 or people would start to comment. Not in a good way. I've been on holiday with her where she couldn't afford to let up, not even for a week.

I agree with this, and also with the poster who said that at least she's being honest about what it takes to be so slim, especially when you're no longer 19 years old. Much better than all those 'Oh, I never diet. I just drink lots of water and run around after the kids' types.

Didn't Liz Hurley once say that she often goes to bed at night feeling hungry? I guess her body is her business, and she's made a lot of money just from looking like she does. But it doesn't sound like much of a life to me.

FlexibleWorkingDenied · 01/02/2022 20:19

@XingMing

Most people in the developed and developing world have an unhealthy relationship with food in the other direction. As in, they eat too much of the wrong foods.
There’s got to be some middle ground somewhere between “too much of the wrong food and is obese” and “eats the same meal for 25 years with no oil, butter, dairy, meat”.

Food is pleasurable, sociable, joyful and about more than just fuel. It brings family bonding, cultural traditions, celebrations.

Jennifer Aniston used to eat pots of baby food to control her weight. She was allowed so many a day. I guess she got good nutrients but keeping as thin as they are, takes a lot of self-control.
AuntyClem · 01/02/2022 20:20

I had a housemate, perfectly normal person, who had zero interest in food. He ate when he got hungry but saw eating as just a thing you do to stay alive. He had no interest in eating or cooking fancy meals.

Oddly, he didn’t apply the same to alcohol - loved a drink.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 01/02/2022 20:20

You can listen to what he says here:

Comment around 17 minutes. A passing comment in the middle of a pretty pretentious discussion about food and wine.

They’re a pretty foody family, a lot of his friends (or at least the ones he posts about on Instagram) own restaurants, and Brooklyn posts faintly embarrassing cooking videos online.

Staffy1 · 01/02/2022 20:20

Wish I had her will power.

In what way is it 'working for her'? Confused
SunshineArtist · 01/02/2022 20:21

Butter was just a flippant example, not a specific focus

Yes, I got that. But your post has a really judgemental tone. I don’t eat butter or any dairy or meat or fish. For me, it because I’m vegan. My diet is healthy. I’m fit, I run three times a week, go to the gym and do exercise classes. I have a great life so the ‘life’s too short’ bit is just 🙄. VB, as far as we know, has a full life working, travelling, kids, husband so 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Your post sounds like something my 80 year old FIL says to me , apparently life is too short to not eat bacon sandwiches. Confused Funnily enough I won’t listen to a fat bloke with heart disease and diabetes.

I don’t know why DB feels the need to reveal her diet though but then I don’t really get the celeb world of putting yourself out there any more than they have to for their job.

hivemindneeded · 01/02/2022 20:22

When I was pregnant that was all I could eat. Couldn't face anything at all, especially red meat, except steamed white fish and steamed veg. It's actually really tasty if you have an aversion to fat as I did when pregnant.

Quincythequince · 01/02/2022 20:22

There doesn’t need to be a middle ground! She can eat what she damn well likes, whether or not you think it’s tasty.

I hate butter, hate it! Can’t stand red meat, and eat very little dairy!”.

What of it!

IcedPurple · 01/02/2022 20:22

No she shouldn’t have to look a certain way. But do you think she would’ve been picked for the Spice Girls and been so successful if she was overweight?

This is what she looked like pre Spice Girls. Very pretty and far from overweight, but nowhere near as skinny as she is now.

Chipstick10 · 01/02/2022 20:22

She has a serious problem. What example is she setting to her daughter. She is beyond uptight

RobotValkyrie · 01/02/2022 20:23

Doesn't sound like a healthy balanced diet if that's all she eats.
Thin is not the same as healthy...

speakout · 01/02/2022 20:23

I'd hate to see the state of her bones.

What does that mean?

Humans can get calcium from plenty non dairy sources.
Many cultures traditionally don't consume dairy past infanthood.

My kids have never eaten butter, yogurt, cheese, or any animal dairy milk.
My DS is 6'2", DD is 5'11"- bothe with perfect teeth,.

I’m a vegetarian so definitely wouldn’t say that about bacon Grin

Do you eat anything special on your birthday? Cake? Any special food at Christmas? Any family traditions surrounding food?

Just interested, don’t mean any kind of “tone” Smile

Given what Japanese diets are like and the health and longevity benefits of it, why is anyway throwing insults or questions at Victoria Beckham.

If thats what she chooses to eat, fair play to her.

AngryApple · 01/02/2022 20:24

I’d eat that too if I got to shag David Beckham!

So what made her become so skinny afterwards?

I think partly her desire to be taken seriously in the fashion world, where anything above a size 4 is disgustingly fat.

None of the other Spice Girls became extremely thin.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 01/02/2022 20:25

I am a stone overweight and can't seem to lose it so I might have to follow her example! I only eat 3 meals a day and no snacks. Maybe the dairy and red meat is where I'm going wrong!

LeQuern · 01/02/2022 20:26

I’m not so dissimilar, pretty much eating chicken breast or fish and steamed vegetables every night. No processed carbs apart from about once a month when I cave for a roast potato or rice (with a home made curry).

I rarely eat chocolate, no biscuits in the house apart from Christmas and never really eat desert - couldn’t tell you the last time I made or ordered one. Never eat fast food but Love a glass of red or a single malt. Eat a tonne of green vegetables.

I prefer to be slim. Doesn’t make me any better or worse than anyone else - it’s purely for my pleasure.
