To wonder how you feel today if you voted for Boris Johnson at the last election?

It’s absolutely no surprise that Boris is behaving in this way but I cannot actually believe that we have a prime minister like this. He is utterly morally bankrupt. If you voted for him how do you feel now?

OP posts:
RozHuntleysStump · 01/02/2022 03:52

I’m fine. I think the parties were wrong but I can’t get excited about it. I’m glad we don’t have the alternative. I think the personal attacks against people who voted differently are more disgusting than any party.

Binkybix · 01/02/2022 04:06

Personally I think we should all learn lessons and move on. There are bigger things to worry about, such as troops being amassed on the borders of Ukraine

It’s a shame for you that he allegedly cancelled a call with Putin to shore up support with backbenchers then. Given his ineptitude and that of Liz Truss maybe it was a good thing actually, but believing their flannel on this is naive.

Do all the left leaning posters spouting pure bile and vitriol on this thread not realise that you and people like you are part of the problem? The average person has turned so far away from the left because of attitudes like this. Being called evil and scum etc because they don't agree with your way of thinking. This kind of behaviour is linked to Labour and Labour supporters. I never ever see right leaning/ tory supporters hurling abuse at left wingers but its a shame the same can't be said from the other perspective. I think Boris won because he promised to get brexit done but had that not been a factor he still would have won because your average person is just sick to the back teeth of the left/Labour. The decline started with Blair and its got steadily worse since.
Of course. Because I voted for anyone but Johnson it’s my fault he’s in Downing Street. You really couldn’t make this up.

You’re as bad as he is “I only voted Tory because those nasty Labour voters made me do it”. Own it. Nobody held a gun to your head.

@SliceOfCakeCupOfTea

Oof I love how picky and defensive some posters are.

It's clear what the OP means....

It's hilarious. Defensive people are my least favourite.

I would hazard a guess that the reason that a lot of conservative voters are not as worked up about it as people would like it, is that it almost reinforces their desire for a small state.
In general, a conservative wants a small state that protects life and property and (in this country, anyway) the provision of mass education and healthcare. The state should be as small as possible to achieve those aims. When the state gets too large it becomes wasteful and corrupt. So, I suppose the recent scandals just reinforce all this for many. A smaller state would mean a less bloated civil service and less wind being trundled into Downing Street. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

MasterGland · 01/02/2022 06:46

Wine!! Wine! Not wind.

This a million times.

As my university lecturer friend said at the time 'I don't understand why poor people voted to keep themselves poor'
I'm just amazed that people are stubbornly continuing to back someone who is clearly laughing at them, has nothing but contempt for them and only has the interest of his rich friends at heart. I mean, you gotta be pretty....

HalfwomanHalfcookie · 01/02/2022 07:28

I'm left leaning and I agree, calling people who voted for the tories 'vile' and 'idiots' does no one any favours. That said, it is pretty frustrating to read the comments defending this guy and the bunch of front bench politicians he has surrounding him. He has brought this country down and made us a laughing stock, whilst Conservative policies have made the poorest people poorer with years and years of austerity. It's all so very depressing.

OhWhyNot · 01/02/2022 07:34

Momijin I would expect a university lecturer to be able to understand that people vote for change. Many have been poor for years and years no rise in wages but huge rises in the cost of living.

It’s not difficult to understand it seems difficult for people to be empathetic even if they disagree

ivykaty44 · 01/02/2022 07:35

No one could have expected this conduct from a prime minister though could they?

Yes, look at his track record with telling lies, getting sacked & his domestic conduct and its not difficult to predict his moral attitude is defunked

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 01/02/2022 07:38

@OmgIThinkILikeYou where have I said I vote for labour?

Fujimora · 01/02/2022 07:38

As my university lecturer friend said at the time 'I don't understand why poor people voted to keep themselves poor'

And the failure of the relatively well off, largely Southern based, Labour intellectuals to understand the Northern working class voter explains exactly why Labour were so soundly defeated in the red wall seats. And unless they sort that out they will carry on losing election after election.

Wealthy, bearded Trots and young graduates sneering at people because they are aspirational, want decent schools for their children, believe in Queen and Country etc is never going to win votes.

Alexandra2001 · 01/02/2022 07:39

Tell that to Diane Abbott or Jess Philips?
Police warned Labour MP Jess Phillips a hitman could be paid to target her and even her son is looking out for danger of attacks

Rape threats made against Labour female MPs is common place.

..a member of a far right organisation murdered labour MP Jo Cox.

So i think your assertions that this is a left wing problem is completely wrong.

But they didn’t vote for change. They voted for the party that inflicted austerity and had made them poor for a decade.
Alexandra2001 · 01/02/2022 07:41

...oh and BJ accused Starmer of failing to prosecute Jimmy Saville yesterday, this is complete and utter fake news as well BJ knows.

OhWhyNot · 01/02/2022 07:41

Absolutely agree Fujimora

Didn’t help in the referendum and doesn’t help win votes over

OhWhyNot · 01/02/2022 07:44

Poor for a decade

What are you talking about poor for a decade Hmm

They also voted for Brexit. You can choose to believe the simplistic arguments about Brexit that all voters are racist and ignore that many many in this country felt left behind

PenStation · 01/02/2022 07:49

I didn’t vote conservative but people I know who did are pretty horrified about what the party has become under Johnson’s leadership.

I'd rather be spouting honest vitriol than pure brainwashed propaganda tbh. 'But it would be worse under labour' 'but labour started it' I respect anyone's political views if they're actually considered opinions but if we're pitting the left against the right then I challenge anyone who voted Tory to tell me what exactly they think Conservatives have done that's benefited the general public without using either of the above 2 soundbytes...
theDudesmummy · 01/02/2022 07:51

How is anyone surprised? I left the UK after the 2019 election, it was completely plain to me and DH then what a lying narcissistic waste of space the election had handed a huge majority to. And so it has been proven, over and over again.

ime many are, immigration consistently was in the top 3 concerns of Brexit voters, they also had on average lower educational attainment than remainers. Indeed the majority of tax payers voted to remain... you know the people who pay the majority of the taxes that keep the country going.

Anyone who thinks that leaving the EU is going to magically make their lives better is quite frankly stupid, many EU countries have far better health & education systems, they have higher benefits, less inequality...

Brexit voters were blaming the EU for UK policies and decisions.

I'm not sure people want to believe the truth. They seem to prefer to believe outlandish sweeping lies. So I don't know how anyone with integrity can win. Also the fact that the media is owned by the same few people who have a vested interest in having a tory govt.

But there really is no excuse with all the information available online now. If you carry on believing these liars then more fool you and you got it coming. Far worse and more pressing is the environmental catastrophe that is happening anyway.

Porridgealert · 01/02/2022 07:58

@MasterGland

Wine!! Wine! Not wind.
To be fair, 'wind' works in that sentence just as well.

And also, not that I think Johnson is the right man to do it, but the civil service needs a kick up its bloated arse. Some departments are so efficient and others are too complacent. I can say that from working there and being told I was working too fast and was making other staff uncomfortable.

Momijin · 01/02/2022 08:00

Yep, I have a lot of european friends and they are incredulous.
Petrol, NHS, food prices, energy prices... tories blaming it on covid yet our european counterparts aren't experiencing the same. People still stubbornly sticking to their guns and defending BJ.
