Going to an event, we were massively delayed in traffic getting to pils .They couldn't wait for us.
So when we arrived they were leaving and mil clocked our friend in pils old tux which dh had leant him, an old 80s thing.??

Dh served us done drinks by which point fil was calling dh saying if we didn't leave immediately we wouldn't get a space in the car park! When we got to the car park it was half empty.
Mil then questioned dh about the tux friend wearing as she felt it was actually fils old one and that was for dh not to give away.

My goodness, you are hard work OP!! You have made many assumptions about your poor in laws, whilst feeling that the world evolves around you and then having a strop when people disagree with you, whilst dragging out your fictitious adult children to add to the mix.

CatJumperTwat · 30/01/2022 18:56

I can't believe you're old enough to drink. You sound like a stroppy pre-teen.

marpelier · 30/01/2022 23:09

I wanna know why the OP thinks that MIL was "jealous" of the random friend in her husbands 80's tux? It's bothering me for some reason as it seems such a strange comment. Then again - this thread!

Marperlier

I've been asking the same question myself.
She had met him once previously and he had made a beautiful meal. All the vegetables were presented in that posh way, tiny sliced and bundled. The fillet, beef Wellington was cooked to mouth watering perfection.

But...hes a free spirited ozzy. I'm loathe to use croc Dundee as reference but compared to other people from Australia I have met ,he's very sort of "individual " long blonde hair, a little gene wilder even. Talks whilst making a fag,leg cocked on the chair etc.
She prides herself on her cooking?
I don't think she expected such a stunning meal from such a man. He's so at the other end of what she deems acceptable.

So, as thumb pointed out...Maybe the trigger was realising this- to her- rough (amazing better than her chef), was bulging out of her husband's (that she chose and purchased old dj) sent her over the edge.??

Both men are tall but fil is defiantly lank. Friend broader and the dj did look, ill fitting.

Was the ‘event’ family therapy?

daisiesonmydress · 31/01/2022 00:03

Craziest thread in a long time. Absolutely batshit.

Brilliant.

StartupRepair · 31/01/2022 00:50

Here's what most people would say on arrival. 'so sorry we're late, traffic was terrible. I know you want to get straight there so I will just nip to the loo and then we'll set off. Hope you don't mind we have lent fil's DJ to our rough yet gourmet chef Australian friend.'

DropYourSword · 31/01/2022 00:57

Well that latest update was just batshit crazy!

Womencanlift · 31/01/2022 01:07

No wonder your PIL didn’t want to leave you alone in their house if you act as batshit as you write. Your posts are getting less coherent with each update

Hahaha. Well I wasn't expecting that! I am Australian. I'm assuming he is backpacking hence not having a suit? Yes all Australians hate people referencing Crocodile Dundee. Pople please stop doing that!!! Besides the fact it was decades ago it wasn't true then. We also don't use the word "shrimp" we say prawn. Sigh. SO if I have this right you think your MIL was jealous of your AUstralian friend because he was more muscly than her decades older husband and was a good cook? I'm not even sure what to say about the Gene Wilder reference. OP - you are hilarious ( in a weird quite strange way). I wish you and your IL's - and your poor DH who seems to be forgotten in your posts except that he must be very tall as he needs to stretch after being in a car for 50 minutes - all the best . I need a Gin

Or, again, maybe the trigger was you arriving when it was time to leave, and instead of either going directly to the venue in that situation, or racing straight in to the loo and back out to your car, was your parties insistence of plonking yourselves down and chugging into the drinks. I would think that’s the obvious trigger for pil being unnerved due to this odd behaviour. Doubt it was Crocodile Dundee with culinary skills in the suit, which I have no idea was ill fitting or not, and my brain is too tired to even try and work it out at this point.

HoppingPavlova · 31/01/2022 04:00

I'm not even sure what to say about the Gene Wilder reference.

Guessing she means the typical surfie hair???

marpelier · 31/01/2022 04:48

Oh right. He's not the first person that would have come to mind but you may well be right.Smile

Lilolily · 31/01/2022 06:06

It is completely normal to not want other people (any other people) in your house when you are not there!

PriamFarrl · 31/01/2022 06:23

He talks whilst making a fag? Well it’s no wonder then is it. Have you ever heard the like?

BobMortimersPetOwl · 31/01/2022 06:36

This is such a weird thread.

If someone arrived to my house late for an event we had to leave for, I most definitely would not be extending hospitality to them.

How did the friend come to have the tux? Where did your DH physically get it from?

How can a formal event for which tickets are required, which you compare to a theatre, not have a start time?

Why didn't you just get a drink at the event? Who in their sane mind would want to sit in someone's house having a drink after they'd left?

Lilolily · 31/01/2022 06:40

DEFIANTLY champagne lady who’s PiL’s backed the wrong horse.

Spidey66 · 31/01/2022 07:37

Weird thread!

Guavaf1sh · 31/01/2022 07:51

I don’t understand what was bulging? The Australian was bulging out of her husband’s old suit?

MrsTimRiggins · 31/01/2022 08:38

@PriamFarrl

He talks whilst making a fag? Well it’s no wonder then is it. Have you ever heard the like?
This cracked me up 😂 my English 66 year old FIL does the same… what a kooky free spirit he really is 😂
ineedsun · 31/01/2022 08:40

Can anyone DM me the link to the champagne thread, not because I think it links to OP but because it sounds hilarious

merrymouse · 31/01/2022 08:52

I’m really having trouble imagining the ages of the various people in this story.

From behaviour the OP sounds no older than early twenties.

However the Paul Hogan and Gene Wilder references make me think 50s?

MulticolourTulips · 31/01/2022 09:21

This is what I understand from the post. You were late, so they left. You went inside their house for a drink even though you were already late. You'd given away a tux to a friend, that fil had given to your dh. I can see why pils might be thoroughly pissed off, considering all those things. Yabu

Isntisironic1 · 31/01/2022 09:27

I think the problem here is that OP does not like her PILS so anything they do infuriates her. Instead of taking stock and realising that the kind of behaviour displayed here is not normal (as many have pointed out) she’s decided to grab onto the one comment that she’s managed to twist in her favour and has referenced many times (think sinking ship and finding a wooden door knob)
The other problem of course is OPs behaviour. This post smacks of narcissism and entitled behaviour. Imagine having such a grandiose sense of self that you think it’s perfectly acceptable to behave this way. Get therapy, work on your demons. Do better

Chilledchablis1 · 31/01/2022 09:47

I must be thick but I still don’t understand why you think the PILs were petty ?
You wanted to relax for half an hour ( why????) so surely you would have been very late as opposed to a bit late ?
