To ask what cutlery you eat cake with?

Dh thinks it doesn't matter what cutlery you use. It does, it's a fork! A spoon is for soup and ice cream.

I cannot enjoy my cake using a spoon, it's not right.
Chocolate fudge cake incase anyone's interested Grin

We have cake forks but use fingers unless a bit messy.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 22/01/2023 22:33

Cake forks Halo

FedUpWithEverything123 · 22/01/2023 22:33

Sorry OP, spoon here. That way none can fall off, not even crumbs!

randomchap · 22/01/2023 23:17

Cake fork, the clue is in the name.

FangsForTheMemory · 22/01/2023 23:20

I just hold the edge of the plate to my gob and tip it in.

What?

I may have been on this thread first time round Grin

The thing about the French and teaspoons is so true, and they are so ineffectual! Last week I was in a cafe with a friend - I had a large (french-style obviously) macaron and she had a surprisingly convincing American-style dark chocolate muffin. We both got teaspoons! Mine was too hard to eat with a spoon and hers too crumbly. We both needed knives for polite company imo, to cut off small pieces to eat with our fingers!

At home I use a fork, as our cakes tend to be too moist or not firm enough to use fingers. I'd like some left-handed cake forks, will keep a look out!

No middle ground in this house. Its either a pastry fork, or bare hands.

Johnisafckface · 23/01/2023 00:41

Fork or a spoon. I like a spoon so I can scoop up every morsel as sometimes a fork doesn’t do the job 😂

It's a fork, unless it's something like this, which I made last night and was delicious.

@kikidsandpuppies

What is that exactly? Looks like one of those chocolate melting puds? What recipe did you follow?

Hi Ouch,

It's a chocolate pudding cake, very easy to make. I used this recipe.www.epicurious.com/recipes/member/views/epics-hot-fudge-pudding-cake-5e95a9b362db290008f7e31d I did add about a teaspoon of vanilla to the cake and a little bit of instant coffee to the cake and the sugar mixture. It was very good! Just a tip, when you pour over the water, don't mix it in.

Slowingdownagain · 23/01/2023 15:05

A fork, but a teaspoon will also do.

greenacrylicpaint · 23/01/2023 15:11

a cake fork

CharitySchmarity · 23/01/2023 15:12

No cutlery at all unless the cake is sticky, then a fork. I can't understand why so many cafés give you a knife (and no fork) with a cake.

I've never in my life been given a knife with a cake anywhere.

Perhaps they assume you want to split it if, for example a brownie or a millionaire shortbread or something
