To ask what cutlery you eat cake with?

Dh thinks it doesn't matter what cutlery you use. It does, it's a fork! A spoon is for soup and ice cream.

I cannot enjoy my cake using a spoon, it's not right.
Chocolate fudge cake incase anyone's interested Grin

You could ask the Johnsons
I would love to own a spork ? I think it's called this , but I tend to use a normal spoon or fork or just hands if I'm indoors on my own
You can also buy little dessert forks too

Adirondack · 27/01/2022 09:59

Fork. Unless it’s an ambush situation, in which case I open my mouth to scream, and the cake just magically jumps right in.

blyn72 · 27/01/2022 10:02

You eat a slice of cake or a small cake using fingers. You use a fork for something like a gateau which may fall apart or for your pudding.

Pastry forks are for the lower middle/upper working classes and are extremely silly.

FreedomFaith · 27/01/2022 10:06

@MsAgnesDiPesto

Cake without anything else - pastry fork.

Cake with cream - spoon.

Cake eaten alone - fingers.

A fork, though a spoon is acceptable if it’s something like hot fudge cake with ice cream.

MaizeAmaze · 27/01/2022 10:22

In company - cake fork if provided, otherwise teaspoon.
At home- teaspoon if gooey or with icecream, fingers otherwise.

I would call that a pudding.

@lborgia

Omg, I'm so glad you raised this!

Cake fork, obviously.

My pet peeve, in fact I would suggest my only peeve in the world, possibly, is being given a dessert spoon, or even larger, for a pudding that you want to eat in small bites.

Big bowl of crumble and custard - of course I need spoon and fork.

A tall glass thing of ice cream, or a small pot of something chocolatey? Bring me a teaspoon!! Sends me fucking mad.

Not that I eat out much at all, but every fecking time!!

But yes, a small fork for cakeCake

Why do you need a fork and a spoon for something with custard? The spoon was invented for custard, surely... You need something like a latte spoon to reach to the bottom of the stupid vase serving dish. Grin

I use fingers for cake. Clean ones, obvs.

HangingOutTheOldLoveLetters · 27/01/2022 12:12

Imo:
Cake best with a fork
Water best in glass
Hot drink best in some type of pottery.

I bloody hate paper or plastic cups.

Davros · 27/01/2022 12:44

@MountSand

Depends on the cake, surely?

Cheesecake: table spoon
Sponge type of cake: fork if in company and hands if alone
Crumble: table spoon

Table spoon? They're massive. Surely you mean dessert spoon
starfishmummy · 27/01/2022 12:50

Depends where I am.

At home I'd use a cake fork (inherited) or a dessert fork. (Small regular shaped fork).

In a cafe or restaurant then I'd use whatever they gave me which is most likely to be a dessert spoon.

lopape · 27/01/2022 12:52

Tea spoon 🥄

99victoria · 27/01/2022 13:17

In our family we pick cake up with our fingers and take large bites of it! :)

HeronLanyon · 27/01/2022 13:26

Always a fork but just realised that in our family we tended to use a dessert fork. Not a cake/pastry fork as lots of left ah ders in family and we didn’t ever have left handed cake/pastry forks (with the conjoined tones forming the cutting but always on the wrong side for many of us).

IamMaz · 27/01/2022 15:26

A fork of course!!!

LizBennet · 27/01/2022 15:29

Always a fork.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 27/01/2022 16:54

Fork here

Missey85 · 27/01/2022 17:35

I use my fingers or a spoon 😊

Marmite27 · 27/01/2022 17:36

We have cake forks.

Youngest DD asked for one in a Morrison’s cafe once Grin

Carrotco · 27/01/2022 18:01

the80sweregreat · 27/01/2022 18:26

Got to love a spork !
It's like the word ' coatigan' for a coat / cardigan ! Great mash up

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 27/01/2022 18:31

A fork

aSofaNearYou · 27/01/2022 18:38

A fork... except for when it's chocolate fudge cake Grin

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 27/01/2022 19:12

@BooksAndHooks

Fork, we don’t own cake forks.
I thought it was just me!
