To ask what cutlery you eat cake with?

Dh thinks it doesn't matter what cutlery you use. It does, it's a fork! A spoon is for soup and ice cream.

I cannot enjoy my cake using a spoon, it's not right.
Chocolate fudge cake incase anyone's interested Grin

A fork.

lborgia · 27/01/2022 20:36

@pussycatunpickingcrossesagain - I don't really understand this question - isn't it normal? If you're sitting at the table, and you know there's pudding, you'll have laid the table with a dessert fork and spoon?

Duchess379 · 27/01/2022 23:09

I'm going to be flamed I expect - apple crumble & custard with a spoon.
I've just had a sticky toffee pudding & custard for afters tonight, again eaten with a spoon...😁

Flowersandhearts · 27/01/2022 23:23

A fork. I can just about cope with a teaspoon otherwise but not a dessertspoon.

caringcarer · 27/01/2022 23:38

Cake fork if at home, but fork if cake fork not available.

namechangedforthisoneok · 27/01/2022 23:40

Fork

Kitkat151 · 27/01/2022 23:44

Fingers....but my GD likes to use a spoon

I don’t have any dessert forks....I don’t know anyone in my family who have them either 🤷

TurquoiseDress · 27/01/2022 23:48

Cake fork for a chocolate fudge cake!

dopple · 27/01/2022 23:54

If I'm out, a fork, if I'm at home, whatever's clean and available or my hands, who cares! Ice cream and cake is great combo but I'll use a spoon for that.

Svara · 27/01/2022 23:59

At home, out of a bowl with a spoon. Only use a fork for things that can not be easily eaten with a spoon.

Mymindblown · 28/01/2022 00:15

@cakedebate

Is the experience better with a cake fork? I don't own one but perhaps I should buy one! Dh sat and happily ate his cake with a spoon Hmm
Yes I can categorically say it is! Seriously try it you'll never go back!
JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 28/01/2022 00:17

It depends whether it is served as part of high tea/afternoon tea or as dessert as part of dinner.

Also a teaspoon and a coffee spoon are not the same thing!

oviraptor21 · 28/01/2022 00:18

Definitely a fork, a small one mind.
Yes, the cake tastes better.

Poppins2016 · 28/01/2022 01:32

In order of preference:

  1. Cake/pastry fork
  2. Dessert fork
  3. Standard fork

My three year old recently asked for a fork to eat cake. Parenting job done. 🤣

Ah yes, coffee spoons, etc... I (sadly!) don't own any but I do love the concept of using utensils designed especially for just one purpose. I grew up with grandparents who instilled proper 'cutlery etiquette' and it made a mark on me (I own soup spoons, butter knives, dessert knives and forks, pastry forks, etc.). Setting the table and using the 'proper' cutlery for the job makes me unreasonably happy.

A cake fork.

A "cake" that has custard with it is a pudding,

JustKeepSwimmingJust · 28/01/2022 06:57

A cake fork. Except chocolate fudge cake, got which I would use a spoon

I agree that a 'cake' with custard(or cream or ice cream), is a pudding, however a slice of cake is usually just picked up by hand and eaten. If you have a big slice you might cut it into smaller pieces but still don't use a fork to eat.
Runnerduck34 · 28/01/2022 17:40

Fingers!
Or if particularly messy a fork.

QuattroFormaggi · 28/01/2022 19:58

A cake fork! We're not heathens despite appearances to the contrary by our PM Grin
We have some that are not 'handed', as DS2 is a leftie and gets a bit pissed off by handed cutlery.

Itstheprinciple · 28/01/2022 20:01

Cake fork

ozymandiusking · 22/01/2023 17:13

A cake fork. Slightly off the subject, I hate restaurants who do not provide a dessert fork with a spoon when serving dessert/pudding.

Gymtok · 22/01/2023 17:30

This thread is a year old.

knittingaddict · 22/01/2023 17:31

Fingers or fork/cake fork.
