To ask what cutlery you eat cake with?

Dh thinks it doesn't matter what cutlery you use. It does, it's a fork! A spoon is for soup and ice cream.

I cannot enjoy my cake using a spoon, it's not right.
Chocolate fudge cake incase anyone's interested Grin

Cake fork

AuntTwacky · 27/01/2022 01:07

Spoon if served with ice cream Wink

Andouillette · 27/01/2022 01:15

I hate cake forks! What is wrong with a pudding/starter sized fork with the equivalent size spoon if custard/cream/ice cream is involved? You will all be telling me next that you are eating your cake out of a bowl rather than a proper pudding plate.

I eat all of my desserts with a teaspoon because I’m a greedy bastard and it stops me shovelling it in my face too fast.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 27/01/2022 01:31

A fork. Preferably a cake fork.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 27/01/2022 01:36

@londonmummy1966

A pastry fork - I have some lovely silver ones but they do require work to keep them shiny.

You can buy left handed ones here www.leftshoponline.co.uk/shop/left-handed-cake-fork/

However, traditionally they were only right handed as being left handed was a sign of the devil's influence. (No I am not making that up both DM and I had our left hands tied to our chairs at school to get us to write with our right).

My friend tried to force her son to be right-handed. We've lost touch, but the son's still in touch with DS2. I must ask him if it worked. I think it's appalling.
Ericaequites · 27/01/2022 01:49

Cake with ice cream requires fork and spoon. I don’t have cake forks, but use a salad fork.

oncemoreunto · 27/01/2022 02:02

Ideally a cake fork, but I only have 4.

Hopeisnotastrategy · 27/01/2022 08:17

A cake fork. We're not savages! 😉

TK Maxx will oblige for very little money if anybody wants some.

AlexaShutUp · 27/01/2022 08:22

Cake fork or fingers here.

If we didn't have cake forks, I'm not sure that I would want to use a normal fork - I might opt for a teaspoon instead in that scenario. DH prefers to use a spoon in any case.

PointyMcguire · 27/01/2022 08:25

Cake fork or regular fork, but never spoon. DH disagrees and shovels it in with a racing spoon Grin

Getyourjinglebellsinarow · 27/01/2022 08:28

My fingers. Unless it's a saucy cake with icecream/custard then a spoon. I'd only use a fork for blackforest gateau type cakes.

Roselilly36 · 27/01/2022 08:29

I bought a set of cake forks, looks better on the plate, inexpensive to buy, treat yourself OP.

NigellaLawdaughter · 27/01/2022 09:06

. . . but also, cake fork. Cake

Redbeanpasta · 27/01/2022 09:09

I like to use a spoon, you lose less of the crumbs.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 27/01/2022 09:10

A cake fork, surely? We do.

sashh · 27/01/2022 09:11

Cake fork

Who puts custard on a cake?

lborgia · 27/01/2022 09:12

Omg, I'm so glad you raised this!

Cake fork, obviously.

My pet peeve, in fact I would suggest my only peeve in the world, possibly, is being given a dessert spoon, or even larger, for a pudding that you want to eat in small bites.

Big bowl of crumble and custard - of course I need spoon and fork.

A tall glass thing of ice cream, or a small pot of something chocolatey? Bring me a teaspoon!! Sends me fucking mad.

Not that I eat out much at all, but every fecking time!!

But yes, a small fork for cakeCake

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 27/01/2022 09:18

Usually a spoon or fingers tbh. Perhaps my technique is wrong but I seem to end up with a plate of crumbs when I use a fork, and not enough cake in my mouth. I suspect it's down to the fork though as I don't have proper cake forks, I think cake forks have a sharper edge so they can cut cleanly through the cake.

DS seems to just inhale cake. It's there on the plate and then it's gone without a trace and it's so fast that nobody is sure how it happened.

beautifullymad · 27/01/2022 09:45

A cake fork? Is this a trick question?

Angrymum22 · 27/01/2022 09:47

Pudding - fork and spoon
Cake - fork but add spoon if it has cream or sauce on top
Ice cream - spoon

Chely · 27/01/2022 09:48

Spoon

3peassuit · 27/01/2022 09:48

Cake fork.
