@ancientgran Good point. 🤦‍♀️

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 25/01/2022 17:09

Actually, asking you if you're a member - how would they know? Theoretically you could be members of all the parties if you had the money to waste on them all it's GDPR, surely they wouldn't find out Wink

DGRossetti · 25/01/2022 17:10

The Met has always had a certain reputation.

Anyone remember "Operation Countryman" in the 70s ?

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 25/01/2022 17:15

@DGRossetti
Do you mean this on iplayer? It's a good watch.

I suppose that's true but if they asked me I'd tell them. I know Boris would laugh at my scruples but it's just how I am.

That looks like it. (I was there, albeit as a child).

Did they mention that the officers investigating the Met had to be based outside of London for their own safety ? (There had been credible reports that some corrupt coppers had put out contracts on them).

OhWhyNot · 25/01/2022 17:51

The longer this drags out the more likely he won’t go

unless the report is absolutely crystal clear he lied (I don’t hold much hope for that) it shall just rumble on. And it will soon be spun into this is preventing our PM from getting on with his work get PM work done

And unless Labour are led by another leader as popular as Tony Blair they have no chance of winning the next election. They need a leader who wins over voters not just wins back voters. Labour is always the party that needs to work the hardest to get into power

If he’s still hanging on in May the drubbing in the local elections should see the back of him.

All Labour needs to do in the next election is look competent - not hard next to these Tories.

skodadoda · 25/01/2022 18:23

@LyricalBlowToTheJaw

I don't know anyone who followed the rules 100%, and anyone who is moaning about the parties, who didn't follow them is being hypocritical.

No, they're only being hypocritical if they were also telling other people not to do it and making laws criminalising them if they did. The difference here is power.

Also, the looming war in Ukraine is why we need a leader who isn't a complete fuckwit and hasn't got himself into a position where he can be blackmailed. Boris fails on both points.

Well said!

So long as the Tories do not get an outright majority I can live with it.

@DGRossetti Can't remember - but it's AC12s boss, Hastings, doing the narration Grin I might watch it again tomorrow early hrs as my sleep is all to pot at the mo so thanks for the prod. Smile
I've not really trusted the police since they lied about Hillsborough.

There were so many uncovered miscarriages of justice in my youth, it was hard to trust them at all.

@truthfullylying Yes. Many. Some things don't change, do they..Sad

hayley037 · 25/01/2022 19:16

I disagree, there is enough people in this country who are willing to be poorer, have a lower standard of living and less opportunities for their children in order to see the Tories and a right-wing government in power. If the Brexit vote taught us anything it's that.

The Tories represent the worst in people and despite appearances they let that out at the ballot box where no one can see who you vote for - look at the thread that was here the other day where people were saying they would still vote Tory.

35-40% (and that's all they need to win a big majority) of England like having a class system and don't mind being worse off as long as their is someone worse off than themselves - this is exactly what the likes of Boris and the Tories represent.

Sad

I was thinking about the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry just the other day - I hoped for change then.

the80sweregreat · 25/01/2022 19:18

I agree that none of this will really damage the Tories , they are good at winning elections and that is a long way off yet

ConstanceL · 25/01/2022 19:34

Unfortunately I don't think that's true with Labour having alienated a lot of women with their poor grip on biological reality. See recent comments by Lammy, Starmer and Rayner for example. The most notable one being Lammy who said any woman trying to protect single sex spaces was a 'rights hoarding dinosaur'.

the80sweregreat · 25/01/2022 19:41

Women's rights and safe places , the LP need to sort it out! It's alienating too many women
A new leader and deputy wouldn't go amiss either while they are at it as those two are another turn off for so. many
So many problems.

Cheekypeach · 25/01/2022 19:43

For too long Labour took the piss out of the working classes in the U.K. and treated them with champagne socialist disdain

This is their punishment I guess. Even if it’s also punishing all of us.

He won't go, he'll hide behind the Gray report then the Met investigation and the narrative will/is "more important things to be dealing with..." like him saying today the UK will deploy troops if Putin invades... ya like fuck we will! we'll possibly send

The next GE is 3 years away, so up to 4 years after the events.

Be interesting to see if he'll; a;;ow full publication.

VikingOnTheFridge · 25/01/2022 19:54

Labour are miles ahead in the polls at the mo, usual caveats applying.

I keep seeing people saying the Tories will win... but no one can explain how they pick themselves up from thsi scandal unless Johnson goes.

62% of people think Johnson should resign. How does he turn that around once people have moved to the anti-Johnson column?

the80sweregreat · 25/01/2022 20:01

A new leader would energize the Tories and they are just good at elections , plus people don't like Starmer or Raynor ( not where I live anyway !)
People do seem to forgive them much more and yes , it is a mystery !
