He doesn’t even need to ‘lose’ it he will just ignore it, like the bullying report 🤷🏼‍♀️

Watching Boris now. He isn't going anywhere soon.

Celia66 · 25/01/2022 13:26

I care much less about Boris than I do about Carrie Johnson. Her designer mate swanning around Downing St, her non-job with a charity (being investigated for financial irregularities), her mates in plum Senior Advisor jobs. It's all rotten to the core and Johnson is so besotted he's allowing her to bring him down.

the80sweregreat · 25/01/2022 13:26

No, I doubt that Boris Johnson is going anywhere too.
They will now say ' it's a police matter , move on' then hope they drag their feet.
We will have to suck it up I guess , not too many alternatives just now.
Plus the Russia situation is bad and needs attention as well as other problems we will all face if they pull the gas pipes on us too !
It is depressing, but it is what it is:(

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/01/2022 13:27

There are reports emerging on twitter that there is no need to suspend Sue Grays report and that this is not something that the Met Police have recommended.

Notonthestairs · 25/01/2022 13:31

@OhYouBadBadKitten Peston reporting the delay in publication comes as a result of a request from Downing Street

Peregrina · 25/01/2022 13:34

Pity that wanken in German - passed tense wankt, does not mean the same as it does in English. But I suspect that there are enough good English speakers amongst the Germans to get the meaning.

Funny that. I bet they’re shitting themselves about what Cummings might have said. And with more to come.

Johnson might be able to limp along until the May local elections then it will be clear what the public think of him and I doubt it will be pretty.

No? Really? You do surprise me.

Peregrina · 25/01/2022 13:48

Sorry third person for the word wankt. My German's a bit rusty.

Yes, Ukraine has provided him with a perfect opportunity to be ‘statesmanlike’. It remains to be seen however how his words translate instead action. Watch his popularity soar today.
the80sweregreat · 25/01/2022 14:30

Just said this on another thread , if only our PM could have done a performance like this over the pandemic ! Got a grip from the start and actually looked like he had a handle on it all
Instead it takes Putin to threaten Ukraine for him to step up and have the facts and figures to hand and answer the questions clearly and to actually look good ( for a change )
I still don't trust him or forgive , but today he is doing all the right things and the likes of the Mail will Lap it up too.
He isn't going anywhere yet.
Worrying times ahead though :(
Have to see what happens.

Trilley · 25/01/2022 14:48

This is why many MPs don't want Boris to go. Boris has appeal in the red wall- socially conservative but ultimately believe in big government and the welfare state. Truss wrote that British workers are the worst idlers in the world and who thinks that British toddlers need to be more polite and obedient. Sunak is a David Cameron style Thatcherite. Ultimately neither would deliver levelling up in the way that Boris promised and that is what the red wall constituencies want.

From what I've heard, red wall MPs and their supporters have become all too well aware that Johnson's promises are totally empty.

I'm only surprised they bothered with it at all - but then, as said, it gave them something to hang on to instead of answering questions at the time

Notonthestairs · 25/01/2022 15:20

Pippa Crerar is tweeting the report might be published depending on conversations between Cabinet office & police.

Flowertailbird · 25/01/2022 15:30

It needs to be published so Johnson can be shown for the liar that he is by the woman he keeps asking us to wait for to tell us all what we all already know (with the exception of a few posters on here and the members of the cabinet that wouldn't have a job if he goes).

Then he should get a cardboard box, pack up his pot plants, his pencil case, his colouring pens and books and his big fat narcissistic arse and get the hell out of Number 10 and stop wasting everyone's time.

That certainly seems to be the case. We were in Hartlepool at the end of last summer and I said then that the Tories had better start spending a lot of money very fast and very conspicuously or they’d have to kiss that win goodbye.

DGRossetti · 25/01/2022 15:54

Boris Johnson’s birthday party
pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 25/01/2022 15:56

@Flowertailbird have you considered anger management classes (or gin) Grin
He won't go.
He'll stay for as long as his complacent arse can be bothered and because someone now has to pay for his DW and 2 (?) x new DC.
This is more a hobby than a job...he's not exactly putting any effort in, is he?

Peregrina · 25/01/2022 16:13

I have come to the conclusion that he is enjoying partygate. The furore that it's caused stops him or Truss having to behave like grownups and pay attention to what is happening with Russia and Ukraine.

If he had a grip on that situation he would give Truss the boot PDQ - although quite who he would replace her with it's hard to say.

Sunak does rather appear to be keeping out of it all.

Except Sunak is reported to have attended the birthday party. Briefly of course, no one seems to stay long at these things to do. Is it like the 3 second rule when you drop something and want to eat it?

I wonder if they are hoping that her report will push him to resign and then they won't have to take action against the sitting PM. Much easier to prosecute the has been.
ancientgran · 25/01/2022 16:56

@daimbarsatemydogsbone The Tories gained 48 seats last time and Labour lost 47.
The Tory majority is 80.
They could actually do without the red seats.

I've lost track of numbers but the Tories wouldn't have a majority if they lost 48 seats, they'd probably still be the biggest party but it is a very different parliament if they haven't got a decent majority and I'm not sure the DUP would be enough help.

I'll have to have a look but I think they'd be in a worse position than Theresa May in 2017 and that wasn't great.

Just got to sort out food but I'll try and have a look later.

ancientgran · 25/01/2022 17:01
@pussycatunpickingcrossesagain the leadership elections would take a while... they go through a few rounds before the members pick the final 2. I joined 2 weeks ago. I actually think he would last a few months so its not too late for most people.
Do they ask if you are a member of any other party. I joined Labour to vote for Starmer but I could resign if it would block me voting for a Conservative leader. Mind you who could you vote for?

ancientgran · 25/01/2022 17:02

@52andblue

Yes. The Met are corrupt (at the top certainly & 'a fish rots from the head down') too.
The Met has always had a certain reputation.
