I agree with the other…erm… more mature posters that this is by far the worst government we’ve ever had. I really worry that Boris’ attitude and lying whilst being leader of this country will permeate society in general.

Having never been a fan of Boris, I’m watching his demise play out like a long car crash, although I wish DC would hurry up with whatever finale he has in mind. Im finding the wait unbearable 🤣

derxa · 25/01/2022 08:21

Quite why anyone would think that a Prime Minister who is not capable of following a simple rule about not having social gatherings is capable of dealing with the crisis with Russia is beyond me. That is a non sequitur. Johnson should go because he is a distraction not because he had a birthday cake. The whole thing is risible.

PigeonLittle · 25/01/2022 08:22

@CeleriacOfTheNight

I was shocked to hear the details.

M&S? Bit downmarket for the Johnsons I'd have thought.

This really makes me laugh because I bet they're itching to explain it was only boring standard catering they use for work meetings and not a proper event at their normal standard Grin

No way they can say that without extending even further a million miles out of touch.

Peregrina · 25/01/2022 08:23

The restrictions needed renewing this week as Plan B was time limited to a month, but Boris knows he does not have the votes to get it through parliament again.

Or would have to rely on Labour to get it through. This is not a good look for a PM with a decent majority.

jgw1 · 25/01/2022 08:24

@pussycatunpickingcrossesagain

The positive of him clinging on is he is bringing the whole of the parliamentary Tory party into it.

^ This.
The longer he clings to power the more the shit spreads to the rest of his cabinet.
Labour need him to stick around for a while. Dom hasn't finished with him yet.

To be fair I think it may have already reached the point that Labour are more likely to win the next GE than not whoever is leading the Party Party.

It is kind of amazing how he's still hanging around. It's not like he's getting anything good out of it. He could've gone before Christmas, fallen on his sword and claimed it was for the good of country and party. The classiest exit he was ever likeliest to get. And he could've been on the after dinner circuit by now. Instead he's continuing to be humiliated daily, tanking his party ratings, must know they've all got the knives out. I can't believe he's actually continuing to choose this. Is he a masochist?

Find Ukraine on the map? Raab has only recently learnt where France is! How many of them know where Wales and Scotland are?

itsgettingweird · 25/01/2022 08:27

@Clavinova

Mandy63l

You appear to be comparing a 10 minute party with a serious crime.

Doesn't matter how serious a crime.

It matters that they passed laws and had the police fining Joe public for doing exactly the same thing they were.

It's not about who are they, if we like them or not. It's not about which party you support or not. It's about the fact the people running the country through the worst public health crisis in a century broke the rules they made 68 million people follow - in law.

derxa · 25/01/2022 08:29

Rayner hasn't just written off 4.3billion due to fraud, and that's only the fraud that Sunak is prepared to admit to. Rayner hasn't overseen a housing bubble as a result of cutting taxes for the rich so that even fewer young people can buy homes in the areas they grew up in. I'd say that it isn't a fair contest and Rayner should be shoe in. She has no knowledge of economics and it's 'shoo in' not 'shoe in'

Peregrina · 25/01/2022 08:33

shoo in is a stupid American phrase that we don't really understand, so why not call it a shoe in? Like a persistent salesman with a foot in the door.

I actually like Rayner - a gobby working class woman that Johnson hasn't a clue how to answer.

I can't find much evidence that Rishi "fraud's on me" Sunak does either.

writingexplained.org/shoo-in-or-shoe-in As for Rayner, I don't want gobby people in charge of the country. I want serious politicians.

I am glad we are in agreement that you don't want Johnson, or any of his cabinet in charge of the country.

Peregrina · 25/01/2022 08:49

jgw1 - you got in before me. Who in Johnson's Cabinet could be said to be a serious politician?

52andblue · 25/01/2022 08:50

Its an overused word atm but I think Johnson is a classic Narcissist. Nothing is ever his fault & people should adore him (if they're not atm they will next week etc). It's his biggest flaw as, unlike the laziness, dishonesty etc he is now only fooling himself.

What makes you think Rishi Sunak has such knowledge? He’s shown no evidence of that so far.

You're right I don't want Johnson. I'm not sure about the cabinet. Look you want Labour in power but middle of the road voters like me need convincing about that. AR is an electoral liability and there are plenty of Labour women MPs far better than her. Yvette Cooper for a start.
countrygirl99 · 25/01/2022 08:57

@clavinova the normal routine for birthdays in an office is to put yhe cake somewhere convenient. People help themselves when they have a tea or coffee and nod towards the birthday girl/boy, say "cheers, have a good one" and catty on working. In 40 pre covid years of working for a variety of organisations in both private and public sectors I have known anyone have a get together in the office unless they are retiring after many years service.
At the time Boris had his little gathering a couple couldn't even have a quickie wedding in a Registry Office with just witnesses.

Yet we had to wait 90 minutes for the squirrel handler to arrive. And even then they were solo.

Looks like they are really panicking at CCHQ.

Celia66 · 25/01/2022 09:15

What on earth were Carrie Johnson and Lulu Lytle doing in the Cabinet Room? They shouldn't even be there. It's a joke.

itsgettingweird · 25/01/2022 09:16

I think that tweet from gov.uk could be the turning point in many peoples minds?

They've specifically said that type of event is not allowed. So how do you then deny not being aware of the rules?

Peregrina · 25/01/2022 09:16

Ha, just made the same post about Carrie on the other thread about enjoying Johnson's downfall.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 25/01/2022 09:22

Is Sue Gray ever going to deliver her report?

Or are they hoping that if they stall it enough we will forget all about it?
