@tintodeverano2 people who didn't follow the rules didn't fine others thousands for not following them. There was an 18 year old in Newham who had a birthday party of 25 people with balloons and cake..it was evacuated by the police..there was probably a hefty fine too for a teen who could I'll afford it, in one of the most deprived neighborhoods in the country. But if you are the PM, you can have 30 people over and not suffer any consequences.

My SIL's friend got fined for trimming his mother's tree in the garden. Another young persona at university without the funds.

So basically the poor had to follow the rules for fear of being fined but LL (who lives in a £4 million flat) and the PM don't need to follow the rules even though it's the PM who made the rules?

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 25/01/2022 07:56

Rousette so did I, except absent-mindedly wearing my mask on my wrist in the "foyer"/entrance of Morrisons once, I did remember once I got to the "gates" much to the security guys amusement when I said "Oh Shit! My mask!"

derxa · 25/01/2022 07:58

truthfullylying · 25/01/2022 07:58

@Roussette

So are we saying that the Government can't do two things at once?

Answer questions on rule breaking during lockdowns and deal with Ukraine?

Yes, I think most of us think this government will struggle with that workload.
ConstanceL · 25/01/2022 07:58

@3Daddy31982

Anyone else think Cummings is building to a crescendo?
Fingers crossed! 😂

I don't think this government can do one thing at once, tbh.

@Blossomtoes

Thanks *@ImJustMadAboutSaffron*, hats off to you. Great name, by the way, do they call you mellow yellow? 😉
No but they call my cat that! She's Saffron, I'm Sarah in real life!
pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 25/01/2022 08:00

Agreed.

I think they'd find it a struggle to find Ukraine on a map.

Roussette · 25/01/2022 08:03

But Liz Truss has a world globe! She's posed like the Queen next to it, trying to looking very ministerial. She loves her photos does our Liz

truthfullylying · 25/01/2022 08:03

I don't know anyone who followed the rules 100%, and anyone who is moaning about the parties, who didn't follow them is being hypocritical.

This is a rubbish defence. There is scale, frequency, hypocrisy, context, reason which all make what the PM did just dreadful.

The majority of the general public are alright. Johnson is a disgrace.

jgw1 · 25/01/2022 08:03

@Howshouldibehave

What baffles me even more is why BJ didn't go earlier when he must have known this would all come out too. It's clear that Cummings (or whoever) will just keep going now until BJ resigns. Only BJ knows how bad the stuff Cummings has on him is but my guess is life destroyingly bad. If I were BJ, I'd be going now in the hopes that it stops before some truly horrendous stuff comes out. Not that it's not bad enough already but I'm sure Cummings has enough to not only oust him as PM but make him permanently unemployable, destroy his marriage and possibly land him in jail. Why hang on? It's bizarre

Exactly this. Why is he hanging on-it’s only going to get worse. I don’t doubt DC has enough dirt on him to destroy him.

Does he think he’s invincible and can ‘ride through’ the storm?!

The positive of him clinging on is he is bringing the whole of the parliamentary Tory party into it. Can one really imagine the constituents of Bone, Fabricant and others voting for them again in sufficient numbers?
CustardCreamm · 25/01/2022 08:04

What a bloody idiot.

Lavanderrose · 25/01/2022 08:04

Sad to think that this gathering and the others could have spread the virus within communities. No wonder members of government were catching the virus left right and centre. Boris and Co put peoples health at risk, they’ve shown a complete disregard for the their own policies. At the time of Boris birthday celebration of 30 in his office, children weren’t allowed to sing at nursery.

Roussette · 25/01/2022 08:05

I want Rees Mogg to get involved and say something stupid. Then he'd be gone too. It's my wish
Perhaps he could quote some Latin about it...

nonono1 · 25/01/2022 08:06

Say what you like about Margaret Thatcher, but she would never have behaved like this whilst in office. She was very hard working and commanded respect whether you agreed with her policies or not. Boris on the other hand appears to have no respect for the role - it seems like it’s all just one big joke to him.

PermanentTemporary · 25/01/2022 08:06

It's so STUPID. Imagine looking like such a weak fool for a series of work parties. For many of us rhe reduction in work social events was the biggest silver lining in lockdown.

Roussette · 25/01/2022 08:07

In Vino Veritas

That will do it.

There is truth in wine.

They drank enough of it whilst partying

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 25/01/2022 08:08

^ This.
The longer he clings to power the more the shit spreads to the rest of his cabinet.
Labour need him to stick around for a while. Dom hasn't finished with him yet.

Roussette · 25/01/2022 08:09

nonono I agree.
I can't stand Thatcher but she ruled the parliamentarians with an iron fist and not in a million years would she have behaved like this, or put up with it.

Ooh @Rousette - it would really be the icing on the cake if the JRM skittle were to be taken out by the Party 'bowling ball'. Here's hoping...

Agree!

Please keep Johnson as long as possible Grin

Roussette · 25/01/2022 08:13

Wouldn't it just... the people of NESomerset really need to look to themselves..

Interesting this morning. On the denial that the 'party' spilled upstairs after cakegate.
Apparently Sue Grey is looking at this.
There are cameras going into No.11 so she will be able to establish whether or not the party continued.
Of course it did.
It was Johnson's birthday

jgw1 · 25/01/2022 08:14

@Roussette

They haven't answered questions about rule breaking in lockdown for the last 6 weeks. If they had, then perhaps they would not be quite such a sorry mess.

Quite why anyone would think that a Prime Minister who is not capable of following a simple rule about not having social gatherings is capable of dealing with the crisis with Russia is beyond me.

To paraphrase the Nasty pasty.

If the poor are too idle to be rich (thanks to my inheritance) and successful like me , then that is their fault.

jgw1 · 25/01/2022 08:18

@derxa

I'd in fact rather have Rayner than Sunak You must be joking.
Rayner hasn't just written off 4.3billion due to fraud, and that's only the fraud that Sunak is prepared to admit to. Rayner hasn't overseen a housing bubble as a result of cutting taxes for the rich so that even fewer young people can buy homes in the areas they grew up in.

I'd say that it isn't a fair contest and Rayner should be shoe in.
