Jesus wept. Blair hasn’t been in power for 15 years! That’s as relevant a comparison as Disraeli. The weaselling away by Tories STILL while the whole country’s in uproar is unbelievable.

TheHateIsNotGood · 24/01/2022 23:07

Not at all 22 - merely narrow in the perspectives that consistently produce the same viewpoints over and over again, for 13 pages in just one thread.

once boris became PM, it was truly confirmed that the world as previously understood had changed it's axis.

Hand wringing about 'rights' without providing a solid policy structure that is 'different' than now and relying on the failings of your opposition to gain leverage is not a good look.

Iggly · 24/01/2022 23:08

Boris Johnson has given us one of the highest covid death rates in Europe.

He’s made a lot of Tory donors rich while children are fucking starving.

He’s a nasty man presiding over the nasty party.

They chose him and will choose similar again, they’ll just be more careful about the image of the next one.

Nazanin remains in prison

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe had already lost her final appeal against her 5 year sentence before Boris Johnson 'misspoke' in 2017 -

Well I’ve never been at a catered meeting where anyone’s wife lived on the premises, but I have been at plenty where people not involved in the meeting but already in the building popped in for a bit of lunch

His current wife (girlfriend at the time) lives next door at number 11, absolutely no reason for her to have the run of number 10.

Well quite. How sad is it that their only defence is to go back in time.

Its appalling. Just appalling that that bloody man had a birthday party.

It just gets worse and worse.

Momijin · 24/01/2022 23:12

One of my fb friends who voted for those wankers because of brexshit couldn't celebrate his child's milestone birthday, his wife milestone birthday yet he still gives that idiot a free pass.

Prices have sky rocketed, shelves are bare, we've not had the energy price hike yet. The turkeys who voted for xmas haven't even begun to feel what they voted for yet.

12 EU states currently have a higher covid death rate per 1 million population.

the conservatives will always be the party of the sensible.

In 2010 the Condem coalition implemented austerity insisting it was necessary to reduce national debt after 2008 crash. It didn’t reduce the debt it grew significantly. IMF now say austerity was wrong decision straight after a crash, it stymies growth.

Wages in real terms have barely risen since 2010. Those with assets, not income, fared much better since 2010. Inequality is growing wider and wider. In 2009, the combined wealth of the UK's richest 1,000 people was £258billion. By 2020 they had £742billion* - an increase of £484billion. The number of U.K. billionaires jumped by 24 per cent between 2020-2021.

Meanwhile Conservative policies since 2010 have not addressed the inflated housing market affecting young people badly in many areas of U.K. There is also a continued lack of council housing. There have been cuts to disability benefits, social care and legal aid since 2010 due to govt imposed austerity too. Increasing fragmentation of NHS and lowest funding from govt % wise since set up over 75 years ago until 2018. Some increase with CoVid but not enough to make up for low increases.

I certainly can’t view what they have done since being in power this time as sensible.

TheFairyCaravan · 24/01/2022 23:14

@MrsAmaretto I’m so sorry about your mum. Flowers

In 2020 DS2 was working in A&E and DDIL was a renal nurse. They live with her parents while their house is being renovated (I think they were actually house hunting at this point) but they couldn’t stay because her dad is CEV. We were in a right state because they had nowhere to go. They couldn’t come here because we live 2.5hrs away and and the hospital had no rooms. DDIL’s best friend, her DP and their baby moved out of their home and into her parents’ so that DS2 & DDIL could live, rent free, in their house for 4 months.

When Delta arrived DS2 and DDIL moved into a caravan on her parents’ drive to keep her dad safe. DS2 had his Christmas Eve birthday in there, they saw no one. We didn’t see them at Christmas because they both worked and we weren’t allowed after that. We did their Christmas and birthdays in May 2021. DS1 and DS2 didn’t see each other for almost a year. Just after Christmas last year DS2 lost one of his colleagues to Covid.

It makes me absolutely sick that families like mine, and millions of others, made huge sacrifices yet the very people making the rules just couldn’t be bothered. Children missed birthday parties, leavers parties, proms, school plays, sports days, GCSEs, A Levels etc but they just cracked on. It’s not right. I’m so angry about it all. He needs to go and we need a system in this country where we can get rid of our PM when they behave so appallingly.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 24/01/2022 23:15

Shouldn't they all have been working at home at that point anyway?

hayley037 · 24/01/2022 23:15

There are many who still see Boris, and it is always 'Boris', as a friend. They act like they enjoy his company and are sympathetic to the difficulties of his job. It astonishes me but is testament to the brand strength of 'Boris'.

I honestly think these people are generally a lost cause, they probably support the Tories in the same way that people support football teams too.

22itsallnew · 24/01/2022 23:16

Interesting that you are casting it as party political. I think for most people they just want a PM who will abide by the same laws they do. Will not ask of them what they are unwilling to do themselves. Who will not lie or mislead to save their own skin. Just some old fashioned honesty and decency. That's what people are missing.
LexMitior · 24/01/2022 23:17

I think on the issue of the actual Conservative Party now and compared to say even five years ago you are not looking at the same people. A generation of conservatives were removed - some pretty competent politicians and they have moved back into money making etc. Unlikely to return.

Equally, it is very very very unlikely that Nadine Dorries, Priti Patel, Suella Braverman or Dominic Raab are going to be in demand as money makers. You really are looking at two different sorts of people. Johnson's people are NBG, because he doesn't like the competition.

This leads to a dearth of talent - Rishi Sunak of course already made his money. He doesn't need to be Chancellor, its pocket money to him.

ElenaCouch · 24/01/2022 23:17

Remember when politicians came on TV and just lied about their policies? Simpler times.

Now it's easy to forget that these arseholes are actually meant to be y'know, working in politics. It feels more like the nation is gripped to an episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

MrsSugar · 24/01/2022 23:18

This cunts unbelievable

The atomic bomb could go off, not a blade of grass will grow and the only things to survive will be junkies, cockroaches and Boris fucking Johnston

User1isnotavailable · 24/01/2022 23:19

Did they ever work in between all the parties!

Hospedia · 24/01/2022 23:19

Honestly don't care, people break laws all the time eveb if its going over the speed limit by 1mph your breaking a law. Droppong litter on the floor thats a law broken.

Little story for you: I used tonwork in a government department that dealt with Benefits and Credits (not DWP though) and part of the job role was I was involved writing the manuals and call processes for staff who were dealing with the public so that they'd know what the rules were when giving out information and advice.

One day Internal Governance came in to see someone on the team. She was then charged eith benefit fraud. It turns out she was claiming one of the benefits, something she would be perfectly entitled to do if she was not living with her partner and therefore outside the income bracket for claiming.

When the case got to caught she was given a custodial sentence because, in the words of the judge, she had direct knowledge of the rules and therefore could not plead ignorance of them, furthermore she had a duty of responsibility in upholding them due to the position she held.

I expect the same to apply to the Prime Minister.

Zotter · 24/01/2022 23:21

12 EU states currently have a higher covid death rate per 1 million population.

Apart from Italy and Belgium all poorer European countries. Back in March 2020 Italy warned U.K. where increasing CoVid transmission began later to lock down earlier than they did and learn from what happened to them. The warning was squandered as the govt waited another 2 weeks.

LexMitior · 24/01/2022 23:22

Its worth remembering too just how much the current occupant of No 10 really regards it as a minor hobby - to him too, this is very little money for a demanding job. Being PM is hard; if you are lazy you will be found out - its not a job for a chairman, to be effective takes a set of skills that Johnson does not have.

He's a headline seeker, not a serious person and the people who vote for him are either not serious themselves or deluded that he will be transformed into a serious person. That will not happen at 56, nor is there any evidence it will happen.

Batholemubrecht · 24/01/2022 23:22

@MarshaBradyo what are starmer's policies ? No manifesto yet

Clavinova · 24/01/2022 23:24

The polls bear that out too

Your link still shows that 46% of Conservative voters thought Boris Johnson was doing well (in that particular survey 17- 01-22) - during an obviously bad week. And, if I remember correctly - 62% of 'Grassroots Conservatives' wanted Boris Johnson to stay on as PM - survey quoted on Newsnight about a week ago.

15 ‘parties’ that we know of according to the guardian

amp.theguardian.com/politics/2022/jan/24/a-full-list-of-alleged-government-covid-rule-busting-parties

Final tally will be over 20 I reckon

Boris Johnson has given us one of the highest covid death rates in Europe

In January the UK Britain became the seventh nation to reach the milestone of 150,000 lost to Covid after the US, Brazil, India, Russia, Mexico and Peru

@AutumnAlmanack

You people will do anything to get Boris out. Who do you think you would get next? Your darling Labour people? Get real - the conservatives will always be the party of the sensible.
Obviously no-one thinks Labour would get in if Johnson resigns this week. Have you seen even one person express that belief?

I swear, the Conservative party is demonstrating again and again that it's adherents really struggle to put two logical thoughts together.
