He told Parliament he was furious to learn of these parties. That was quite misleading wasn't it?

@MrsAmaretto I know it won't mean much from a random person on MN but I am so sorry about your mum.

Bellie710 · 24/01/2022 22:16

@AutumnAlmanack

You people will do anything to get Boris out. Who do you think you would get next? Your darling Labour people? Get real - the conservatives will always be the party of the sensible.
This I think is the problem, everyone may want Boris out but who the hell would take over?? I think that is why Boris has lasted so long, there is no one in the tories or labour that I could genuinely say would be any better than Boris, they are all exactly the same!
GettingItOutThere · 24/01/2022 22:16

where is whitty? he seems to have dropped off the planet?

carrie is as bad as him, if not worse (boris)!

Clavinova · 24/01/2022 22:17

Carrie and the interior designer

I assume that the interior designer was working in the building that day and I heard Keir Starmer say last week that he had no objection to spouses/partners being in the workplace...

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 24/01/2022 22:18

@MarshaBradyo

The letter from little 7 year old Josephine is a clincher

That is very sweet and sad

I think of my little girl sat colouring rainbows for our window to cheer the neighbours up rather than having the planned fun weekend out because covid lockdown was announced on the day of her birthday.

And this actually boils my piss!!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 24/01/2022 22:19

I live in Ireland. Everyone I know are throughly enjoying all the shenanigans. Makes our lot look great in comparison

With the possible exception of the failed states (and of course Berlusconi) he makes anyone look great in comparison Hmm

Clavinova · 24/01/2022 22:19

You appear to be comparing a 10 minute party with a serious crime.

Alexandra2001 · 24/01/2022 22:20

If Boris Johnson ate birthday cake for less than 10 minutes at work - I'm not going to condemn him for that

It was after "work" & i use that term loosely as little work was actually done in between flat refurb's, numerous parties and trips to Chequers.

What was the law back in June 2020?

A 7 year old knew what the law was, are you saying Johnson didn't?

Mandy63l · 24/01/2022 22:21

@Clavinova

Mandy63l

You appear to be comparing a 10 minute party with a serious crime.

I wasn’t actually comparing anything, I was merely noting your blind loyalty.

Although, a crime is a crime, I wouldn’t expect our PM to break any of the laws he has responsibility for making and enforcing.

Stockholm syndrome. Politicians are not all the same & this is precisly why Johnson needs to go before the last vestiges of public trust evaporate in the entire system

Never voted Labour in my whole life. I won’t even consider voting Tory with Johnson as PM, I loathe him and everything he stands for but if they get rid of him there is a (small) possibility I might.

lightisnotwhite · 24/01/2022 22:26

So you actually think everyone should have been allowed to mix then? Or not following rules?

What makes you think Boris was seeing his loved ones?

We weren't allowed to spend 20 seconds inside socialising with other people at that time.

The allegation is that a banned social gathering was hosted to celebrate a birthday, during which time a birthday cake and snack food of a type commonly found at parties was made available to guests.

I ate birthday cake in a classroom with a colleague and a reduced number of students. Because it was their birthday and they weren’t allowed a party.
So was I actually at a party too then and was the student, who wasn’t allowed a party?

MrsAmaretto · 24/01/2022 22:26

Thank all who have written kind messages. It genuinely makes me cry every time a new story appears about this government.

This is why “they” can’t spin their way out of these stories. We the people lost so much. There are hundreds of thousands of families like mine who lost time with loved ones who died, or lost time with people who died of covid, who never got to hold that newborn.

There are people up and down this country who are financially devastated by lockdowns, whose kids dropped out of uni, who are now on antidepressants, who are anxious or stressed. Think about what our kids missed out on - parties, social skills, hugs, school plays, singing in choirs.

We are not going away. They have shown their contempt towards us and we will not forget.

Role on May 2024, and god help the Tory candidate who knocks on my door.

We did have a laugh at this -

Who would you pick to take over? They have all broken the rules or been at the parties or lied, there is not one that I could genuinely say I would vote for I wouldn't vote for Boris either though!

Fossie · 24/01/2022 22:34

@PaintYourDreams

If it's true then he should go. But why the constant drip-feeding? And by whom? Why did those drip-feeding not come out and say what they knew at the time? It worries me that the media and anonymous sources seem to be on a campaign to decide whether an elected PM should stay in office or not.

It would be hilarious, Clav shouting look over there at minor bit part did something bad whilst the star of the show does something reprehensible. Nobody has any faith in the clowns in government. Nobody. Except clav who's either very dim or has some undisclosed motive.
It would be hilarious. It isn't because people were dying while they were eating canapés from M&S.

Clavinova · 24/01/2022 22:35

The refurbishments were finished in April.

Work began in April 2020 - invoices still being paid in October 2020 according to this article;

@bevelino

I can’t get over how BJ lectured the country about sticking to the rules, saying how sorry he was about all the deceased, then minutes later was off partying. You couldn’t make it up.
I doubt even he will have the brass neck to address the nation again, unless it's a pre recorded broadcast.
22itsallnew · 24/01/2022 22:36

@Bellie710 it's not for me to pick the Conservative Party will select their next candidate, hopefully one with a bit more integrity as a public servant.

There are 650 MPs Do you honestly honestly think they all are as bad as Johnson?

They were living in a flat with a young child for 7 months whilst work was being carried out. No wonder he needed to go downstairs for his birthday party.

I'm more worried we Will loose a leader when we are at another crisis point thanks to Putin!

I am past caring. Others have done far worse. I'd rather keep him at this point and replace him further down the year

Maybe she was there to ask Johnson which party donor he was going to ask to pay for the refurb?

Others have done worse have they.

Wow, what a smell of desperation. Using your logic, we should only have general elections when things are calm. Or just straight up not bother.

Why not want for better….??
