OH and I just cannot sleep in the same bed comfortably and I can't take any more disrupted nights. We have a regular Ikea double, with a divan with drawers underneath and we share one King size duvet.

We are both very light sleepers, apparently I now snore (due to failed IVF weight gain I think), he tosses and turns all night and often prods me awake if I'm snoring. We both wear ear plugs, I wear a sleep eye mask. I've spent the past two nights on the sofa freezing, desperately trying to get some sleep.

So, what are other couples doing? I'm thinking King size bed? Two single beds/mattresses pushed together? Zip and link mattresses? Two single duvets Scandi style? OH won't consider separate beds or separate rooms (not that we have a spare room) which I get, but I need a solution!! The solution is not getting rid of OH, before that gets suggested Smile Please share your amazing bed set up - sleep situations, TIA xx

We have a king - it's not big enough !

Get a super king ! Or even an emperor!

nomoneytree · 24/01/2022 13:48

I couldn'tsleep in a double shared as a grown adult. You need a king at least, better a super king. Good luck with your ivf journey.

ditherwood · 24/01/2022 18:58

@nomoneytree I think we will get a supering if we can, thanks for the luck for the IVF journey xx

I've got a 9 year old who comes in bed and tends to encroach across my bed until I am hanging off the edge! I rolled up a large heavyweight blanket and put it as a barrier under the sheet down the centre of the bed. It works pretty well for personal space retaining!

Ericaequites · 24/01/2022 20:22

A double bed is no wider than two cribs. The six inches extra width in a king makes it much more comfortable. I moved out at thirty, and promptly bought a 150 cm bed, and haven’t looked back. A super king fits poorly in older rooms, and hard to get up older stairs.

Beth856 · 24/01/2022 20:38

Hey! One other thing that’s worth looking at is mattresses with minimal transference i.e you can’t feel when you’re partner tosses and turns! Which recommends do a good list of mattresssss and this is one of their test criteria

Stath · 24/01/2022 20:50

We have two single mattresses on a super king base (mega cheap platform bed from Amazon about £130) plus mattress toppers.

We have this for the gap and it works a treat!

We replaced an IKEA super king bed with this one and it’s solid and comfy as well as cheap.

Separate rooms his is an orthopaedic firm double with feather pillows and light double duvet.
Mine is double with memory foam mattress, memory foam pillow with a 9kg weighted blanket and a feather quilt.
Totally not compatible, but we work!!

Super king and Emma mattress - bliss!!

RosesAndHellebores · 25/01/2022 01:15

I bought ours when we moved into this house as our old bed was older than our marriage. I needed something in stock and bought a king divan with drawer things and a mattress for £700 from John Lewis. We were going to bung it in the guest room once we had agreed on a better quality super king. But it is so comfortable we kept it. 7 years in.

We switched to single duvets when I developed hot flushes longer ago than I wish to remember. So much easier to change too.

My non negotiable is good quality feather pillows. Three each.

We have a bedspread to keep it neat.

At present I can't sleep and dh has undoubtedly nodded off on yhe sofa downstairs.

Blueuggboots · 25/01/2022 01:18

King size water bed with individual mattresses. Best thing ever!!

AuntTwacky · 25/01/2022 01:20

Definitely at least king size bed

Didioverstep · 25/01/2022 01:28

Super king and now that doesn't feel big any more! I would love one of those beds made for huge families if I had the space! We have 4 kids and there's always someone climbing in. That I could stretch out and use as much space as I wanted. And my own duvet! Cuddles when I want but he's the cuddler. I. Not in my sleep

Gigia · 15/02/2022 19:00

Super king with zipped mattresses, two duvets
