OH and I just cannot sleep in the same bed comfortably and I can't take any more disrupted nights. We have a regular Ikea double, with a divan with drawers underneath and we share one King size duvet.

We are both very light sleepers, apparently I now snore (due to failed IVF weight gain I think), he tosses and turns all night and often prods me awake if I'm snoring. We both wear ear plugs, I wear a sleep eye mask. I've spent the past two nights on the sofa freezing, desperately trying to get some sleep.

So, what are other couples doing? I'm thinking King size bed? Two single beds/mattresses pushed together? Zip and link mattresses? Two single duvets Scandi style? OH won't consider separate beds or separate rooms (not that we have a spare room) which I get, but I need a solution!! The solution is not getting rid of OH, before that gets suggested Smile Please share your amazing bed set up - sleep situations, TIA xx

We have separate rooms, due to his snoring. It's wonderful.

ditherwood · 23/01/2022 18:41

@NoToLandfill I hadn't even considered trying to change a massive duvet! Thanks for Aldi tip, will try it out x

@pussycatunpickingcrossesagain apparently as it's my fault for snoring, it's my job to take the sofa Angry

Kingsize 3000 pocket sprung silent night, medium firm. Superking duvet. Dh's snoring has improved.

BABAHOTEL · 23/01/2022 18:45

We currently have a king but the next one will be a super king with separate duvets. The thought of that makes me all warm
Inside.

CatCup · 23/01/2022 18:46

King sized bed.

Then a nice double in the guest room. So if one of you gets fed up in the night, they can roll away to another room.

Davros · 23/01/2022 18:48

Super king bed. Two single mattresses, different soft/hardness. Two single duvets. Super king bedspread.
I thank you

ditherwood · 23/01/2022 18:50

Superking is my top tip for a happy marriage. When we have to squeeze into a double now it is AWFUL.

freshflowers2 · 23/01/2022 18:54

Superking and make sure it's a memory foam type mattress- they don't budge or squeak when one of you gets up to go to the loo in the night.

We sleep really well together in this, disaster when you stay with family or friends and get stuck in a tiny double! We always end up exhausted..

BlueyandBingo · 23/01/2022 18:55

You need a big room to take a superking, we have a king with a superking duvet. We also have a mattress topper which make the bed super comfy.
We also needed some new bedding recently and I bought a brushed cotton set from M&S soooo warm and snuggly, I love it.

notordinary · 23/01/2022 18:55

Superking if you have room, with a duvet each, best thing ever!!

Lulu1919 · 23/01/2022 18:55

We sleep in separate rooms !!!
He's a late to bed kinda person I'm a early to bed
Weekends he likes a lie in ...I'm usually up by 7 ish
He snores and likes a warm room and thick duvet
I like a cold room and a summer duvet all year

ditherwood · 23/01/2022 18:59

@BlueyandBingo oooh brushed cotton! Yes please!

@freshflowers2 Thanks, I need to research memory foam. Spent five night over xmas at his brothers on a small double sofa bed, don't know how I didn't kill him and his whole family over that.

@Lulu1919 sounds like the perfect solution!

@dudsville

Seperate duvets.

King size bed.

An agreed way for him to let you know you're snoring. I lay a hand lightly on my OH and he wakes enough to mumble "sorry" and turn over.

Warm bedding easy to grab for the odd sofa night.

We do these things and it's made us much happier.

Everything about this is correct and exactly what we do in our house!
Georgyporky · 23/01/2022 19:04

2 duvets definitely, & we prefer 2 singles pushed together.
As for snoring, I've found a loud "stop snoring" works without the need for prodding.

Luredbyapomegranate · 23/01/2022 19:05

@WowIlikereallyhateyou

Superking size zip link, one side soft one side medium. One duvet.
This but two duvets Scandinavian style

A double is small for two, no wonder you struggling.

Also, foam earplugs

reluctantbrit · 23/01/2022 19:09

In general - Super King with two mattresses and two single duvets. That's how the majority of people in Germany where we are from are sleeping.

As I snore, issues with nasal passage and weight, DH moved into the spare bedroom. He has decent expensive ear plugs we use on holiday unless we have a sc property with 3 bedrooms.

He recently slept in our bed after an illness and defintely snores as well so I think we do stick with two bedrooms.

Only get memory foam if you are both cold types.

I bought an Emma mattress last summer and It was like sleeping in the Devil’s armpit. Mercifully they took it back. If you are hot person normal mattress much better.

birdglasspen · 23/01/2022 19:11

Super king size for sure!
