OH and I just cannot sleep in the same bed comfortably and I can't take any more disrupted nights. We have a regular Ikea double, with a divan with drawers underneath and we share one King size duvet.

We are both very light sleepers, apparently I now snore (due to failed IVF weight gain I think), he tosses and turns all night and often prods me awake if I'm snoring. We both wear ear plugs, I wear a sleep eye mask. I've spent the past two nights on the sofa freezing, desperately trying to get some sleep.

So, what are other couples doing? I'm thinking King size bed? Two single beds/mattresses pushed together? Zip and link mattresses? Two single duvets Scandi style? OH won't consider separate beds or separate rooms (not that we have a spare room) which I get, but I need a solution!! The solution is not getting rid of OH, before that gets suggested Smile Please share your amazing bed set up - sleep situations, TIA xx

@ditherwood

MintyGreenDream Emperor!? I had no idea such a thing existed!
If one single mattress wont stop disturbing you, and getting bedding for them is a pita.
girljulian · 23/01/2022 18:06

We used to have two single mattresses on a king size base, and a single duvet each, under a counter pane thing that goes over the whole bed during the day so it looks neat. World changing. As it transpires, when we moved to this house we got a good quality king size mattress and that too is just fine, I can’t feel him if he moves in the night.

ditherwood · 23/01/2022 18:14

girljulian I was wondering about two mattresses on a king size base, interesting to hear you don't notice the difference with one mattress now..

DP and I used to have endless bed arguments. Buy a superking.

I honestly thought no bed would ever be big enough. But its fucking huge!

LemonSwan · 23/01/2022 18:16

And yes we used to have two singles to alleviate the arguments. The crack was the centre line haha.

But now we have a superking emma and its not an issue - I cant feel him move.

ditherwood · 23/01/2022 18:20

LemonSwan fucking huge is exactly what I'm looking for!

Super king, DH is 6'4 it's the only size bed he can lay straight in and when he sleeps on a diagonal it's even less space for me. Our spare room has a double and how on earth we used to share it I don't know. DS occasionally sneaks in in the night and sometimes we don't even notice

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 23/01/2022 18:22

Hypnos Superking zip and link divan, necessary to get it up the stairs but actually perfect as we can have different firmnesses of mattress and movement causes less disturbance. Shared Super king duvet

GoodnightGrandma · 23/01/2022 18:23

Separate rooms was the only answer.
But if I wake in the night I can still hear him on the opposite side of the house with his door closed.

ditherwood · 23/01/2022 18:27

BalladOfBarryAndFreda this is exactly what I was thinking, separate but connected mattresses avoiding the bounce factor

OP posts:
ditherwood · 23/01/2022 18:28

GoodnightGrandma I can absolutely see the appeal of separate rooms!

ditherwood · 23/01/2022 18:30

JurgensCakeBabyJesus 6'4" on the diagonal!! yikes, mines only 5'9" and I can't handle him in a double

dudsville we absolutely should agree a gentle snoring alert system, the current prodding makes me rage.

NoToLandfill · 23/01/2022 18:32

Superking. 2 double duvets. New pillows. Happy sleeping!!!

girljulian · 23/01/2022 18:32

@ditherwood @LemonSwan We have an Emma too! They’re brilliant. I had two singles before because didn’t want to spend the money really when we were renting, so they were two cheap single mattresses. But one Emma on a king size is fine.

justaweeone · 23/01/2022 18:32

Super king and the biggest duvet you can find!!

NoToLandfill · 23/01/2022 18:34

Ah snoring alert for us- a gentle tug on the duvet covering the snorer. Not a huge shock that wakes you up in shock. Not a kick which is mean. And not a "oh shut up!"
Duvet moving a bit seems to be a non conflict way to make snorer turn over in their sleep.

ditherwood · 23/01/2022 18:35

@NoToLandfill double duvets though? do you get loads of duvet flapping around?!

OP posts:
NoToLandfill · 23/01/2022 18:35

And to STOP SNORING. Which is the desired result!

NoToLandfill · 23/01/2022 18:36

Nope. On a superking 1 double duvet just wraps around me. Other one wrapped around DH. In the day they fold up in half longways so the bed looks tidy. I rate sleep higher than a tidy looking bed!

GTAlogic · 23/01/2022 18:36

Normal sized double divan here with a king-sized duvet. I wear a Bluetooth sleeping mask with built in headphones and listen to thunder and rain through it because dh breathes annoyingly. We both sleep fine.

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 23/01/2022 18:39

@ditherwood

Maybe suggest he takes the sofa for a few nights...he might be less inclined to prod you. Grin
NoToLandfill · 23/01/2022 18:39

Plus I can't change a king or superking duvet cover on my own!

Easier to buy double duvet covers.
It really works. Aldi is doing duvets I saw today, if you want a low cost way to try out

ditherwood · 23/01/2022 18:39

@NoToLandfill I love the idea of double duvet each, also really wish I could stop snoring, v embarrassing

ditherwood · 23/01/2022 18:40

@GTAlogic bluetooth sleeping mask sounds amazing!
