OH and I just cannot sleep in the same bed comfortably and I can't take any more disrupted nights. We have a regular Ikea double, with a divan with drawers underneath and we share one King size duvet.

We are both very light sleepers, apparently I now snore (due to failed IVF weight gain I think), he tosses and turns all night and often prods me awake if I'm snoring. We both wear ear plugs, I wear a sleep eye mask. I've spent the past two nights on the sofa freezing, desperately trying to get some sleep.

So, what are other couples doing? I'm thinking King size bed? Two single beds/mattresses pushed together? Zip and link mattresses? Two single duvets Scandi style? OH won't consider separate beds or separate rooms (not that we have a spare room) which I get, but I need a solution!! The solution is not getting rid of OH, before that gets suggested Smile Please share your amazing bed set up - sleep situations, TIA xx

Separate rooms here! We are getting on so much better to be honest. We both get a good sleep every night (he snores and I grind my teeth) but still have sex whenever we want!

LaTomatina · 23/01/2022 19:59

BABAHOTEL both beds are the same model, just different sizes, so there's no ridge, just a very slight gap but not enough to be noticeable (like if you have 2 single mattresses on one base) so it's not uncomfortable if you lie across it.

fizzyfood · 23/01/2022 19:59

Super king size bed from IKEA and a separate single duvet each. Never 'bump' into each other now Wink

ditherwood · 23/01/2022 20:02

@LaTomatina that's a lot of bed! Sounds amazing!

Bloody hell, never a double - a king is the minimum space really if you want to sleep ok

godmum56 · 23/01/2022 20:04

@ditherwood

MintyGreenDream two double duvets? Does it get at all unmanageable having two doubles? I was wondering what size to get..
not on a superking, its excellent
ditherwood · 23/01/2022 20:05

@godmum56 right, two doubles it is. Thanks!

We have a superking size zip and link bed with two separate double duvets.... the zip and link is great you can't even feel when the other person turns over.

I like to be warm in bed and him cool, I have the side nearest the radiator and a big duvet he has the window side and a light duvet all year round.

Best thing we ever did

ditherwood · 23/01/2022 20:08

@crazyhairbear This is the situation I think will most suit us, I want to be super toasty, he wants to be chilly

Ah, I see! Perfect!
reluctantbrit · 23/01/2022 20:15
@reluctantbrit Ah yes, I think in Germany and Scandi countries this is a good solution. I'm curious, with two mattresses do you use one sheet on both or separate sheets on each? Silly question possibly...
Two sheets. I hate making a bed with a super king size sheet.

It works well, I am currently underneath a duvet and two blankets as I need it soft and cosy, DH throws off everything of it is above freezing outside.

We bought ours from bensons for beds in 2020 We went to the shop to try some out and the mattresses to seem what firmness we wanted (turns out we both like a number 4 but you can get two of different firmness ) with a divan base with storage... it was going to work out at £2k which I was hesitant about at the time.

We went into lockdown again just after and all the shops closed so we decided to just wait it out. Then the exact bed came up in their Black Friday sale for £800 so we ordered online (shops still closed) as we knew exactly what we were after.

ditherwood · 23/01/2022 20:19

@reluctantbrit I think I'd also hate wrestling with a massive sheet! I'm the same, I need cosy layers and to be really warm, he likes to feel the chill (?!).

@LaTomatina that's a lot of bed! Sounds amazing!
Yeah it is. But really only a matter of (co-sleeping/space shortage) circumstances that we discovered the combo.

Regarding what people are asking about having 2 double duvets, for us it works really well (and is necessary) because the 3 year old still tends to get in with us in the small hours... And also, I am a raging duvet theif in my sleep.

ditherwood · 23/01/2022 20:22

@LaTomatina I think it sounds like absolutely heaven. I'm told I'm also a raging duvet thief, on top of the snoring!

emwithme · 23/01/2022 20:22

Another one for the Superking with a double duvet each. We got the IKEA Malm with drawers and a Hyllestad mattress for less than £1k so not outrageously expensive.

Although, I moved into the Spare Room when 7.5 months pregnant with DD, who is now 3, and I'm not moving back. He snores and farts and I like having a cold side to flop onto in the middle of the night.

Popcorn925 · 23/01/2022 20:23

We have zip & link mattresses (unzipped on separate bases) with separate duvets. We're both restless sleepers.Best Buy ever. Although I suppose 2 single beds pushed together is the same thing.

LuckyAmy1986 · 23/01/2022 20:24

I can’t imagine having a double anymore no way would we sleep!

Super king and separate king size duvets here. Heaven.

ditherwood · 23/01/2022 20:26

@emwithme reassuring to hear it doesn't have to be too expensive. Sounds like you have a good system going on in the spare room too!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 23/01/2022 20:27

We had to do separate rooms. It would have ruined our relationship otherwise. I like the idea of a superking -already have a king

ditherwood · 23/01/2022 20:27

@Popcorn925 out of interest why unzipped? and do you use one sheet across both or one on each mattress?

OP posts:
ditherwood · 23/01/2022 20:28

@LuckyAmy1986 two King size duvets?! Wow, sounds super luxurious!

OP posts:
ditherwood · 23/01/2022 20:29

@teaandtoastwithmarmite I said to him today that we need to sort out the situation as I want to still like him!
