OH and I just cannot sleep in the same bed comfortably and I can't take any more disrupted nights. We have a regular Ikea double, with a divan with drawers underneath and we share one King size duvet.

We are both very light sleepers, apparently I now snore (due to failed IVF weight gain I think), he tosses and turns all night and often prods me awake if I'm snoring. We both wear ear plugs, I wear a sleep eye mask. I've spent the past two nights on the sofa freezing, desperately trying to get some sleep.

So, what are other couples doing? I'm thinking King size bed? Two single beds/mattresses pushed together? Zip and link mattresses? Two single duvets Scandi style? OH won't consider separate beds or separate rooms (not that we have a spare room) which I get, but I need a solution!! The solution is not getting rid of OH, before that gets suggested Smile Please share your amazing bed set up - sleep situations, TIA xx

A duvet each, mines thinner than my husbands as I’m menopausal. We have the same in our camper van. Even in a hotel a few weeks ago I used a blanket and he had the duvet as the room was to warm for me to need the duvet. I have at least 4 pillows too.

ditherwood do you enjoy IKEA as a couple? Think you need to go. Even if you buy from somewhere else, it'll give you some ideas. It's one of our best loved dates these days (disclaimer, we are now middle aged and boring) to take a day off when the kids are in school, go to IKEA for breakfast and then check out beds and couches. Sounds deeply tragic written down though!! 😂

My SH was once in IKEA so long, he had breakfast and lunch! GrinGrin
BABAHOTEL · 23/01/2022 20:45

My DH not SH!

LaTomatina · 23/01/2022 20:45

BABAHOTEL it's easily done!! 😂😂😂

ditherwood · 23/01/2022 20:46

@Pinksmyfavoritecolour we definitely need to get two duvets, we both like/need different temperatures too

@LaTomatina not tragic at all! I absolutely love ikea and often go for a wander around my local one! He absolutely hates it though, so I'll never get him in to one sadly : (

And he brought me home meatballs and Diam bar cheesecake! I ❤️ that man!

Oh and tea lights, I love a tea light!

addictedtotheflats · 23/01/2022 20:47

Separate rooms all the way. I can't believe we left it so long. I dont get why we are expected to sleep in the same bed, I work shifts and he breathes heavily, snores, wriggles around so cant be dealing with broken sleep!

BelfastSmile · 23/01/2022 20:48

We have 2 doubles pushed together, and then a double duvet each. It is fabulous.

ditherwood · 23/01/2022 20:50

@BelfastSmile two double beds! Biggest bed so far!! You must have a huge bedroom, lucky you!

Oh wow! I'll openly admit I'm very jealous!
BelfastSmile · 23/01/2022 20:54

It actually happened because our bedroom is an odd shape. It's not long enough to fit a king-size bed, but it is very wide!

GenderCriticalTrumpets · 23/01/2022 21:01

We have a super king and it is the best thing we ever spent money on. We absolutely love it.

ditherwood · 23/01/2022 21:04

@GenderCriticalTrumpets we are def going to get one after everyones amazing feedback here on Super Kings being game changers!

Super king and separate duvets. I have always struggled with sleep and this helps

Davros · 23/01/2022 21:06
@reluctantbrit Ah yes, I think in Germany and Scandi countries this is a good solution. I'm curious, with two mattresses do you use one sheet on both or separate sheets on each? Silly question possibly...
Separate bedding except bedspread

Davros · 23/01/2022 21:10

I like hybrid mattress like Simba and DH prefers good quality springs but the depth must be the same. I prefer two single duvets because you can tuck it in behind your back without lots of drape iyswim

BonkMyPop · 23/01/2022 21:17

Me and my DH have been together for 12 years since our early 20s and have always had our own bedrooms. Even now with children. He has a King and I have a Superking. He’s not a great sleeper and I toss and turn and sleepwalk/talk. We ‘pop in’ for sex and have a great sex life. Don’t get cuddles in bed but we get sleep so that’s a win for me!

If you think about a bed just being for sleep, WHY would you share one?! 😂

ditherwood · 23/01/2022 21:43

@Davros I do see what you mean, I think I'm going to need to trial single vs double duvet

OP posts:
ditherwood · 23/01/2022 21:44

@BonkMyPop I totally hear you, it sounds ideal and maybe in our next place if we have a spare room we'll do the same!

Agadorsparticus · 23/01/2022 21:47

King Bed with super king Duvet. No more fighting over the sheets. We chose an ottoman for storage.

Motherhubbardscupboard · 24/01/2022 07:08

@ditherwood a hybrid mattress is pocket sprung with memory foam layer on top of that. It means you get the benefit of foam in that there is no bouncing and it moulds to your shape to a certain extent but you don't sink into it in the same way you do with pure memory foam.

Guacamole001 · 24/01/2022 07:13

Would one of you sleep at the bottom of the bed is too and tail.

Separate duvets definitely. A weighted blanket really helps my sleep. Over my duvet. Not a normal blanket. Just be weighted.

Check you don't need a topper over the mattress.

FinallySomeNormality · 24/01/2022 07:15

We had this issue and ended up sleeping apart for most of a year. Recently upgraded from a double to a king and it's fine again!

We had debated a super king as a king only gives you like 15cm extra width which sounded tiny... but our room really would have been a squeeze with a super so we went for a standard king and it's fab!
