AIBU?

to tell my DH that the romantic hotel he booked is a waste of money??

My DH booked a 2 night break at a B&B costing £240, I think this is excessive, especially for the place he's booked. We had 1 night there last year and I thought it was a waste of money then!

I have told him that I feel its very expensive for the hotel and we could get a far cheaper hotel, after all its the time together thats important.

He has taken the hump with me, even though I keep telling him I appreciate the gesture and I want to have a break with him, i just feel our limited cash could be better spent on a cheaper hotel.

Have I been unreasonable? Should I just back down and shut up?

YANBU, it looks really tacky, and obviously the hotel knows it considering they demand payment upfront (never heard of such a thing!).

The rooms do look a bit like a bordello/set of a porn movie, I wonder if that's the attraction for some of the guys that book it. That coloured fountain is something else as well.

just seen the link. I think it looks fabulous. Very have-a-laugh-and-shag.

Drunken Duck looks fab though. Loved the sample menu too! If I win the lottery, I'll send my parents there for a weekend to be totally spoiled. My mum is originally from Cumbria and loves the lakes.

Thanks to all, I had a big guilt pang this afternoon and thought what a bitch I am, He wants to spend this money to take me away and I'm being a total bitch!

It may not be perfect, but its the thought and that he would do this and spend this much on me even when it's tight.

Thanks to all, I have some making up to do!

Flame, I'm glad you see it that way, I bet now you're relaxed about it you'll have a wonderful time. Maybe it can become 'that weekend away' in 'that hotel' for years to come

YABU. He has booked you what he thought was a nice romanticbreak for both of you. So yes shut up and back down or he might just not bother at all.

LOL - I thnk it's hilarious. It is exactly the sort of place DP would book - if he would book anywhere at all, of course! Am I right in thinking that one of the bedrooms has a pitchfork and a bucket leaning against the walls? If you are lucky you might get the Austin Powers room!
It's in a fantastic part of the world, find some lovely places to eat out, and enjoy yourselves!

ROTFL - that place needs a visit from the hotel inspector. But actually, i think its great, and its not a bad price either. Suspend your snobbery - ENJOY!!!!!

im sure your dh meant well but that place looks soooo dodgy!!!

surely hotel du vin is cheaper than that

i am a shallow soul and would not be able to concentrate on conjugal rights for the dodgy decor!!!

i think its fab that your DH has made the effort and booked it and sorted childcare, go and enjoy the break and be pleased that he wants to be with you.

That place is HILARIOUS, it is a total shag palace. I mean all you would go there for would be to shag really!!

Do you think it would work for DH and me

I think it looks funny. And I think saying to dh 'it's too expensive' is easy for him to hear as 'you don't earn enough to take your wife somewhere nice'. Buy some leopard print undies and go and have a laugh. As you say, it's the time together which matters.
