All eyes waiting for the SG report 👀

It will be interesting to see how far they're willing to go to gaslight us with the world watching

Notonthestairs · 23/01/2022 22:20

Tweet from Paul Brand and the front page of tomorrow's Telegraph re police being interviewed by SG. References made to staffers deleting messages and photos.

If they had all this information why hadn't they investigated previously? Confused

Trilley · 23/01/2022 23:17

This bit from that Week in Tory tweet is strangely reminiscent of Certain Posters round here:

  1. Govt whips were accused of blackmailing MPs into supporting Johnson

  2. In a bold challenge to logic, the govt said they wouldn’t look for evidence of this unless they found evidence

  3. 12 Tory MPs said it had happened to them

  4. No, not that kind of evidence

Trilley · 23/01/2022 23:19

@Hawkins001, no-one claims the PM does everything. He is however responsible for what his government does, because that's what it means to be leader. And even Johnson doesn't do as little some posters on this thread are claiming.

I understand your perspectives, but what we presume it means to be a leader, does not always equate to the specific details of what his duties consists of.

the80sweregreat · 24/01/2022 05:25

The Daily Mail online is leading now with a headline saying that the Sue Gray report is 'damming ' and ' sources' think that he can't cling on.
It's early (I bet this story will be gone by 7am) but worth a look before it disappears.

Alexandra2001 · 24/01/2022 07:25

@Florianus

Just to be clear, the Conservative Party Complaints Procedure (easily found on line) specifically states that it is for, among other things, acts of discrimination by party officials. I therefore still do not see why she refused to use it.
@Florianus Wasn't she also told (her account) that pursuing would mean the end of her career "she will be destroyed"

No surprise she didn't want to use the party machinery, esp as 15 tory councillors found to have shared or originated racist comments were re instated.

Didn't Warsi call the Tory Institutionally racist ?

But they are the specific duties that previous Prime Ministers have had, so if what you say is correct, the question then is why is Big Dog doing the job so differently?

Story’s still there. It’s stolen from The Telegraph which has it as its front page story. It’s telling how the Tory press are putting the boot in now. When that happens it’s hard for a politician to survive.
Zonder · 24/01/2022 08:07

No wonder they pointed the finger so hard at Corbyn with the antisemitism claims.

ClaudineClare · 24/01/2022 09:02

Why did she refuse to use the official party complaints procedure when her complaint was against the party's Chief Whip? If Johnson had helped her to use some other system he would rightly have been accused of not using the proper channel

Because the channel he suggested she take was not the appropriate one in her view. Now it seems the PM agrees with her as he has asked the Cabinet Office to conduct an inquiry into the allegations.

Why didn't he do that in the first place?

Zahawi is tryimg to cover Johnson's arse by saying that Ghani did not initially tell No 10 that it was possible those who raised concerns about her faith might not even have been Tory members.

“This is a new piece of information that we learned from Nus’s statement,” Zahawi told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme. “When parliamentarians deal with the whips office, this is very much a political party matter.”

I don't believe a word he says.

I wonder if the Tories will take any action against Fabricant for being a horrible racist? They would be doing themselves a favour as he is not improving their image one bit.

I heard Zahawi and I don't believe it either - very unconvincing. It is the usual pattern of taking steps only when forced to due to bad publicity

Well quite - they had witnesses on the ground, how are the Met going to defend their refusal to investigate? Absolutely preposterous that police witnesses with relevant evidence are being interviewed by a civil servant in an internal inquiry!
Kennykenkencat · 24/01/2022 09:41

@ruabon23

I am not enjoying his downfall. I am visiting France in the summer and when ever I have gone, have had people questioning why the UK ever ended up with someone who is an international embarrassment. The sooner he is gone the better.
Who says that to you? It seems a strange comment to make. Given the feelings for Macron from my French friends I doubt they have anything to feel superior about

I actually think the way Boris has been I think the lies and the disorganisation etc is a combination of exhaustion and Long Covid.

In the last 2 years not only has he had 2 children but also hospitalised through Covid

People saying he can’t remember or that he appears drunk or off. I can only go by my own experience after having what I suspect was Covid and I wasn’t as bad as to be hospitalised. For about 8 months I was so exhausted. I couldn’t remember what day of the week it was and I could barely walk any where. Just pushing a trolley round a supermarket was the most in a day I could manage let alone having 2 babies and the sleepless nights they bring and trying to steer a country through a pandemic.
2 years on I still don’t feel back to “normal” and my mind isn’t functioning like it did before and I worry that this is my new normal

I look at how Boris was in the months preceding Covid and there was an energy about him that seemed to disappear after having Covid
If anything I wouldn’t be surprised that Long Covid doesn’t get diagnosed at some point.
In normal times an exhausted and ill PM would have delegated a lot and eased his workload whilst he concentrated on getting himself well but these are not normal times and he has had to be front and centre in the worlds spotlight whilst being extremely ill.

ClaudineClare · 24/01/2022 09:45

CryingAtTheDiscotheque perhaps the police concerned were worried about their jobs if they spoke out?

ClaudineClare · 24/01/2022 09:46

I agree though, the Met looks ludicrous for not investigating.

Long Covid and exhaustion, now that is a new one Grin

What were the excuses before that?

NiceShrubbery · 24/01/2022 10:01

Unfortunately, the rest of the world thinks it's a personality trait. 10 million clicks.

Peregrina · 24/01/2022 10:04

Why didn't he do that in the first place?

Because he's a lazy arse who only does something when he's caught out?

AdamRyan · 24/01/2022 10:05

I think he's always been like that and it's an act. This was quite illuminating (from 2019)

*I actually think the way Boris has been I think the lies and the disorganisation etc is a combination of exhaustion and Long Covid.

Then he shouldn't have been doing the job. This is straight out of the narcissist playbook - once they are at the end of the line with their outrage and their lies and their blaming others it always ends up with the I am ill excuse- usually mental health issues but I suppose long covid is as good a one as any.
Long covid doesn't cover all the other jobs he was sacked from for lying.
