You do realise that you make yourself look like a complete idiot when you twist people's words?

This is not necessary.

Nobody is twisting your words. For some reason (and goodness knows there are all sorts of reasons why we distract ourselves with these threads), you have decided to make an argument that absolves the PM of responsibility for government.

This makes no sense, so people keep picking up on it. I’m assuming that is the point, and I genuinely hope you are OK.

Thanks for the distraction all, but I’m going to block this thread now. I can’t believe anyone else is reading it and at this point it can’t be doing anyone any good, least of all florianus.

Jeez, you say nobody is twisting my words and in the next breath you do so yourself. I have never absolved the PM for responsibility for government . I have pointed out that we have cabinet government in this country, and not a dictatorship, and that covid laws are not the personal fiefdom of Boris Johnson.

ClaudineClare · 23/01/2022 10:45

@Florianus could you perhaps let those of us who want to discuss the issue of Johnson's potential downfall get on with it? Please stop the derails and insults.

This makes no sense, so people keep picking up on it.

People keep picking up on things that I have not said because either they do not read properly or, more likely, they want to make political points against the prime minister. Unfortunately, many of the latter fail because - like your own post - they are inaccurate.

Don't worry, I only respond to posts that are inaccurate.

Notonthestairs · 23/01/2022 10:54

If the Prime Minister broke Covid Regulations and in covering this up misled Parliament then it absolutely is political.

Anyway I'd love to be a fly on the wall whilst Sue Gray talks to Cummings today.

jgw1 · 23/01/2022 10:55

@Florianus

jgw1: Can I just be clear, because you appear to have said it twice, that you think the Leader of the House Jacob Rees-Mogg decides to have opposition motions for himself (perhaps because it would be a nice thing to do)?

I said that Rees-Mogg timetables Commons business, which includes opposition days. I said nothing about him deciding to have commons motions for himself.

Ah JRM is some kind of secretary who does the timetables. Is that all he does?

No doubt he finds it very tiring which is why he has to lie down on those green benches.

ClaudineClare · 23/01/2022 10:55

That is a no, then. What a shame, this was and could have continued to be a good discussion but it has been totally hijacked.

And @Florianus you also never said that Johnson was a messenger.

Don't twist my words by omitting context. I said that when reading health messages he was telling the media what the cabinet had agreed and/or parliament had passed.

You do realise that you make yourself look like a complete idiot when you twist people's words?*

I stated quite clearly in the message you replied to that you never said that Johnson was a messenger.
Am I wrong and you think Johnson is a messenger is that how I have twisted your words?

Notonthestairs · 23/01/2022 10:59

Did anyone watch Raab on Sunday morning? Caroline Lucas is tweeting that he said the PM will get to decide what bits of the report are published. Is that right?

My biggest concern about Johnson, Downing Street and the wider government at the moment is that so much of their energy is being taken up with defending their actions, when they would have been so much better off saying, we got it wrong, sorry, what we did was wrong. Then they may have had a chance to govern the country, as it is they have dragged this whole sorry saga out for over a month and one has to now wonder about their judgement.

If one wants an example of how a Prime Minister should behave during lockdown one needs to look no further than a wedding in New Zealand.

Correct.

The Prime Minister also gets to decide if he or anyone else did anything wrong.
This was also the case with the bullying by the Home Secretary.

Surely you realise that the derails are the whole point of Floridanus' contributions?

Well yes, but I still wish they would stop it!

longwayoff · 23/01/2022 11:20

Assumed they're one and the same, surely? Anyway people, don't hold out for Sue Gray to save us from Boz and his bots, unless there are pictures, we're stuck with him until 1922 frog marches him out.

The most devastating to release evidence of further parties would be after Sue Gray's report is published since the remit of the report is to investigate all parties in Downing Street during lockdown. If The Prime Minister, his PPS and others don't tell her about one...
Notonthestairs · 23/01/2022 11:27

Yes that would be one way to discredit the report.

CryingAtTheDiscotheque · 23/01/2022 11:30

Yes, I also think after the SG report
There’s also all the stuff about chequers which I don’t think is within her remit…
