NC because this is outing

Say you went to a sibling's wedding where the bride had handmade all the favours and they were various little felt animals.

The bride gave you a cow, your OH a horse, and your

What a shame. It was a lovely idea.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 21/01/2022 18:27

I’ve found her spirit animal

Loving the pictures of the crochet, felt animals Grin

@Ionlydomassiveones

I suspect they were not laughing ‘with’ you. I wouldn’t offended, but I would think it was piss poor thing to give a new relative.

It must really suck to have such a negative outlook on life. Sorry you're going through it.
I did say that we gave her jewellery and an experience day. Our relatives were not short on nice gifts.

@Ionlydomassiveones

“All those complaining that it isn't good enough as a favour, what exactly would you deem permissable to celebrate you gracing them with your presence at their wedding?”

Something not twee, pointless and for children. I’d rather they didn’t bother. My boss would do this, give everyone ‘hand crafted’ felt crap as Christmas gifts. She enjoyed doing it and was tight. Every one of us used to bin them. Some people, before they even left the office.

You and your colleagues sound rather unpleasant and miserable, tbh.
Thirtytimesround · 21/01/2022 18:31

Congratulations. Obviously she overreacted, but giving a pig and a cow to family when no one else got an ‘insulting’ gift wasn’t a smart move and I probably would assume that she was (subconsciously) calling me a cow for some reason.

ScreamingMeMe · 21/01/2022 18:33

@Hugasauras

Aww I would love this! My mum does felting and we have some amazing things she has made. DD got a set of moles for Christmas and she was overjoyed Grin They're great wee favours!
My cousin felted me a robin for Christmas and I love it.
thinkingaboutLangCleg · 21/01/2022 18:34

OP, I would be delighted by little handmade souvenirs of a wedding, as would a lot of the other people posting here. Don't let one picky, ungracious guest hurt your feelings. If she's keeping her distance - all the better for you!

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 21/01/2022 18:34

Seconding anyone who says that some people can pick a fight with their own shadow.

I'm sorry this happened to you as it sounds distressing no matter how rationally you understand that the friend in question has responded in a deeply irrational or even (as PP said) deranged manner.

MeredithGreyishblue · 21/01/2022 18:40

I got my mum a felt sheep gir Christmas- am I inferring she follows the herd? No. Its a cute sheep.

Who are these people who use animals as insults? I can't think I've heard a woman called a cow since the 90s!
The gymbastic to reach full offended position is quite the thing

BlackAlys · 21/01/2022 18:42

Please don't say she gave you grief on the wedding day OP?

I would have loved the little felt gifts, by the way x

girlmom21 · 21/01/2022 18:47

I've only ever thought "ah that's a cute idea" when I've received a wedding favour.

I'm not sure why people here are judging the OP's choice of favour. It's not supposed to be extravagant or expensive.

PrivateHall · 21/01/2022 18:47

I would have LOVED this, such a thoughtful idea op. You sound really really lovely. Sorry they did this, I hope it didn't ruin your big day.

FlexibleWorkingDenied · 21/01/2022 18:47

@FishGoBloop just saw this tiktok and thought of you Grin

I love cows. I had a pet one for 25 years.

WingingItSince1973 · 21/01/2022 18:50

I would love that as a wedding favour. But I crochet and use textiles in my craft too. Unless we had fallen out I wouldn't have thought you were having a dig, especially as you gave her other thankyou gifts too.

FloatyBoaty · 21/01/2022 18:52

God some people are just joyless bastards aren’t they…

OP it was a sweet thought. I’d go low contact with your SIL because she sounds like a wazzock.

Much rather a felt animal than another bloody sugared almond.

TatianaBis · 21/01/2022 18:54

I’m just here for the owl noises.

Needacuppanow · 21/01/2022 18:54

Lovely idea and great talking point. The fact that you said people put them in button holes etc shows they were appreciated.
I'm impressed you had the time to think about what others would like whilst preparing a wedding.

StCharlotte · 21/01/2022 18:55

@FishGoBloop

(I know it's a completely ridiculous wedding favour but they made the vast majority of the guests laugh and it set off a really lovely atmosphere as everyone sat down and we really wanted to give out keepsakes)
I think it's adorable.
TooManyPJs · 21/01/2022 18:56

Yes I definitely do that. But I am a bit unhinged.

Needacuppanow · 21/01/2022 18:56

Go bigger next time OP, birthday maybe 😉

Extra marks for most excellent use of wazzock! Not heard that since my dad died. Awesome.

Oh god and now anyone who got an owl and is on MN is belatedly offended😂😂😂🦉

Somebody needs to grow up. Not the bride......
