NC because this is outing

Say you went to a sibling's wedding where the bride had handmade all the favours and they were various little felt animals.

The bride gave you a cow, your OH a horse, and your

Crochet her a grip instead.

pinkyredrose · 21/01/2022 17:22

I LOVE that owl!

Write, apologise that they were offended and that you were in no way intending that

No way should she apologise! For what exactly?!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 21/01/2022 17:23

@Musicaltheatremum

This reminds me why I am not doing favours at my wedding! Didn't do it first time either.
My dd didn’t either (aside from little mini bubbles for the many kids.). But she provided a load of pairs of flip flops for the women instead (summer wedding) for when their feet started killing them. Went down v well. Nothing for the blokes!
Hugasauras · 21/01/2022 17:24

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius

I gave at least 8 people pigs in crochet granny blankets that I had made, as part of their Christmas presents, and no-one thought I was calling them a pig! I also knitted a dragon for dh, without him feeling insulted.

I think your guest was being unbelievably touchy, @FishGoBloop, and your wedding favours sound really cute and thoughtful!

Those are amazing! My mum made us all felted pigs in blankets for stockings a few years ago and they come out every Xmas Grin

I'd joke about the cow and ass thing to my husband. I'm far to sensitive for my own good but I wouldn't find it offensive or mention it to anyone else.

I would love little felt animals are wedding favours though.

FishGoBloop · 21/01/2022 17:29

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius & @Hugasauras They are adorable!! I love pigs, the sounds they make are so cute.
The dragon is brilliant as well must have taken you ages.

No. I wouldn’t have been offended. It’s definitely among the more unusual wedding favours I’ve heard of but certainly not offensive, though I might have given the woman a sheep instead of a cow ( but maybe she’d be touchy about that!) And must have taken you forever to make.
Love the pigs in blankets.

You're not supposed to give women animals like cow, dog, pig, snake, rat etc. If I was making animals for people I'd give a woman something like a swan or a deer, maybe a rabbit. If I wanted the child to have a farmyard set to be entertained, I'd have put 3 farmyard animals for just the child. Then give the mum the prettiest animal I can possibly think of. Then give her husband a good one but not great, like badger or hedgehog. If you give him a lion it'd be too much. Yes it sounds mad, but it's the thing you have to think of to keep people (that are likely to get drunk and emotional later) happy.

However it was still very unreasonable of her to ruin your wedding day. She's not unreasonable to distance herself if she's offended.

TearifficTaz · 21/01/2022 17:35

No one who is mentally stable would find this offensive

If this was my sibling who acted like this they'd be getting farmyard themed gifts for all birthdays and Christmases until the end of time.

What a sexist load of tripe. Women are not so fragile as to require only pretty animals such as swans and deer, FFS, while men can ‘withstand’ animals such as badgers.

100% hard disagree. What absolute bollocks.

Are people really this insecure? A lion would be too much? What the fuck?

Ohyesiam · 21/01/2022 17:40

@2pinkginsplease

Over reaction!

However who gives their guests felt animals as favours? Plain weird!

Or really lovely

I like hedgehogs. Also whales (mentioned up thread). I am not fat and/or spiky. This is madness. Please send me any small cute knitted/crocheted/felted animals. I bought a 'Crochet your own Otter' set from the Aldi Aisle of Randomness almost two years ago. It remains that I've only done about 4 rows of it, as I keep getting in a fankle. Almost 2 years of pandemic has not made me any craftier.

If I didn’t receive a rat I’d be disappointed.

Freecuthbert · 21/01/2022 17:41

Those sound like really thoughtful wedding favours. I'd love a little felt animal! She sounds very insecure, and to confront you like that? Of course YANBU.

Fatherliamdeliverance · 21/01/2022 17:41

Is she quite overweight? Not being derogatory at all. I am a bit over and have been rather more so in the recent past.

I would have felt more sensitive about being given big animal like a cow, hippo or a pig when I was larger so I wonder if you had touched a nerve that way.

BliainNua · 21/01/2022 17:42

You know you're not wrong OP - your SIL is full of shit! What does your DH say about the whole thing (is she his sister?)?

Ohyesiam · 21/01/2022 17:43

@KO81

It’s really easy to identify the posters on here who don’t see value in anything unless it’s cost a lot…

Is there a felt animal etiquette book I have forgotten to read?

Is this in the small print to the Ten Commandments, or something? Grin

Fairylightsongs · 21/01/2022 17:47

Cmon op, fess up did you do it to wind her up? You said every gift was personal to the person, and you gave her a cow and her kid a pig. Cmon,,you can tell us 😄😄😄

lemmein · 21/01/2022 17:48

I once stayed at my friends and it was absolutely freezing - at the time onesies were a big thing so for Xmas I bought her one to keep warm in her ridiculously cold house. As it was close to Xmas there wasn't much availability so I bought her a cow print one from next (bought my DD the same one)

She's not spoken to me since ConfusedGrin

Your guest, like my ex-friend, is quite mad OP!
