At the risk of sounding dense (and this is a genuine question), please could someone fill me in on what are the risks with Labour's standpoint on self ID? I genuinely want to understand.

Previous pp,'if you are a single issue voter and this is going to lead you to vote to Tories I would question just how much you care about women as the majority of their policies when it comes to austerity disproportionately impact women.'

FFS, give me strength.
@Notonthestairs look I am with you. Issue is. If women lose this battle we will never get it back. Now we need to dig in over this issue. Then once we have it we can then go back to dealing with the other shit. We cannot let this one be lost or it will be lost forever.
I agree, once our protections are gone they're gone. We won't see them again in our lifetime.

Porcupineintherough · 20/01/2022 21:48

@KrakowDawn the thing is, I dont think that's true. I think they are more likely to help women in lots of ways, esp related to poverty. Balanced against that is the damage they'll do with this sex-denying bullshit.

I'm finding it really, really tough to know what to do for the best. Sad

I agree with that poster.
Theeyeballsinthesky · 20/01/2022 21:49

If any men can declare himself a woman simply be saying he is one then there are no more womens rights and women lose the ability to define the issues that affect only women because of their sex

Feel free to explain why I (and others who have said similar) are wrong though?

The trans issue has become an absolute shit show during the Tory government but so have 101 other issues. I’ve had my local Tory MP say how proud he is to be opening another food bank ffs

MarciaDidia · 20/01/2022 21:50

🖐 I will probably spoil my ballot.

Hotcuppatea · 20/01/2022 21:51

I can't bring myself to vote Labour when they are headed down this route. I just can't.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 20/01/2022 21:51

It’s not a trans issue it’s a woman issue

It is womens rights that are being rolled back

It’s not a minority issue, it affects 52% of the population

ilovesooty · 20/01/2022 21:52

And don't forget the current government has decided that misogyny is not a hate crime.

Because if women are erased as distinct category the there is no,need to bother/listen to us. At the moment, the tories (who I will never vote for by the way) are holding the line. Since this issue hit the mainstream. It is the right wing - tories, the times, the fucking daily mail, who have stood up and reported on this. And this hurts me - that the Labour Party that I have voted for all my life will throw adult human female rights females under the bus for woke points. It is like we are not even real to them. That's why. Hope that helps.

I think this too. It's so fundamental that it's not a single issue but would be like a house of falling, it will affect everything for women & girls. Or also makes me question do they really care about people in poverty? They day they care about women but this is how they treat us!

I don't think any party actually cares although I have meet some individual MPs from different (Tory & Labour) parties that do care.

Sickoffamilydrama · 20/01/2022 21:58

Oh for an edit button ignore the typos 😂

ArabellaScott · 20/01/2022 21:58

Raises hand.

I mean, I'm in Scotland, Labour are an irrelevance here. But still.

Crustypiepants · 20/01/2022 21:59

✋ ex member, always voted Labour , even stood as a candidate a couple of times but not now. Spoiling ma ballot 😭

Well, what is Labours policy on Trans then? rather than a few personal opinions.

I assume you wont vote Labour again because you know what it is?

user1471504747 · 20/01/2022 22:01

But you must understand you’re probably in a lucky position to be able to be a single issue voter.

I can’t afford to be because to me that will ensure the tories stay in. I can’t afford to let that happen to rape victims, victim of DV, disabled people, children living in poverty etc etc

The list goes on and on and on

You might, and there’s no guarantee on that, stop self ID in its tracks but at what cost? Losing the NHS? Disabled people starving to death? Women being forced to stay in abusive marriages? More and more food shelters opening?

Sorry but at the moment there is not a single party standing solidly 100% for women’s rights, but some of the parties have a far more negative impact on women’s lives as a whole.

QueenOfHiraeth · 20/01/2022 22:01

@FOJN

I won't vote Labour, LibDem or Green because of their policies on self ID. Spoilt my ballot last time. Not sure what I'll do next time but I live in a safe Tory constituency so it probably won't make any difference who I vote for.
Exactly that!

Me - once these rights are gone we’ll never get them back
