They're really ok. Certainly not worse than McDonalds or your local greasy spoon.

Exactement

Mummywantsaweewee · 14/01/2022 20:54

Love beer and a burger!

TallyHoMyLittlePeachMuffin · 14/01/2022 20:58

What's your AIBU? They do what they say on the tin

Momicrone · 14/01/2022 20:59

Well not sure I'd hang out in my local weatherspoons as a woman on my own

yupyupyup · 14/01/2022 20:59

Nothing wrong with food/drinks. They are not dog-friendly as a chain, so I avoid. Sometimes I need to pop in for a drink with the dog in tow. The CEO/Founder whoever he is seems to be an aresehole...

HeadToToesNo · 14/01/2022 21:01

I'm snobby about McDonalds too Grin

Legomania · 14/01/2022 21:02

It's not the pub per se, it's the clientele...

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 14/01/2022 21:04

You generally know what to expect. Doesn't matter if its Aberdeen, Southampton, Blackpool, Norwich... they are the same.

Oneborneverydecade · 14/01/2022 21:04

There are fewer alcoholics in our local McDonalds and greasy spoon

rachelvbwho · 14/01/2022 21:04

The CEO is a horrible person and I completely disagree with the way he has run his business and treated his staff around Covid and Brexit.

I can't speak for all Wetherspoons but the cheap prices of been in the one local to me attracts a lot of people to start drinking from early in the day who generally just sit there drinking cheap booze all day/every day. Meaning it isn't the nicest place to go as a woman, family or group of friends....

Momicrone · 14/01/2022 21:04

Yeah the clientele from what I can see are older men who like a drink, or 2 or 3

MaxNormal · 14/01/2022 21:05

It's not that I'm snobby about it, it's just a bit shit and so is McDonalds. But each to their own.

DrManhattan · 14/01/2022 21:06

Been to some nice ones, been to some rough ones. Nowt special

NoLongerTroels · 14/01/2022 21:06

At least I can eat there, they have a pretty good selection of Gluten free food. McDonalds in UK hasn't got a meal I can eat.
I quite like the jacket potato with Tuna Mayo.

Fauxpains · 14/01/2022 21:06

They are good value, the food is tasty, their menu is calorie-counted with lots of choice, they are usually light and airy and their toilets are like ballrooms.

I actually would take a book and hang out in a Wetherspoons during the day. A Wetherspoons breakfast is a lovely way to start the day. You don’t have to have a beer with your bacon bap.

Tal45 · 14/01/2022 21:08

You didn't raise the bar very high there though did you? I don't think people who are snobby about Wetherspoon are likely to be raving about Maccy D's or their local greasy spoon either.

DynamiteFilledRadish · 14/01/2022 21:08

You honestly don't need to spell it wrong just to hammer home that you think it's rough.

What happens in your local spoons that lone women should fear?

AudTheDeepAndCrispAndEven · 14/01/2022 21:09

We have a good local one, you always see someone you know in there. very family-friendly and lots of meal choices that the kids will actually eat for a good price. I don't agree with the owner's politics and thought his attitude towards his staff at the start of the pandemic stank. As such we've used them about three times since the easing of restrictions last year (before it was weekly), but sometimes it is a matter of convenience.

Itsmeandhim · 14/01/2022 21:10

We have one in our town and during the day it attracts retired couples.
We tend to go most Thursday lunchtimes (market day) and we have got to know a few people.
Ours is divided into 3 areas.
Food and drinks for adults.
Food and drinks for families.
Drinkers.
This is what I would call a rough town but there is only 2 men that are
there all day.

Ridingthegravytrain · 14/01/2022 21:10

They do a great pizza

ChampagneLassie · 14/01/2022 21:11

The founder/CEO Tim Martin seems cretinous. He treated his staff badly when covid hit and is a right-wing loon. I wouldn't go there. If i want a pub I much prefer to support local independent businesses.
SnowyPetals · 14/01/2022 21:11

Wetherspoons is the only pub in my area that regularly has a pile of vomit outside it. 'Nuff said.

TheCanyon · 14/01/2022 21:11

The last time we went there was no plates left, had lunch in bowls instead.

Its cheap and cheerful, fills the gap. The pasta dishes are monumentally shit though. The pasta Alfredo smells like sick, tastes like it after two mouthful too.

Cheap pints of fosters though...

BiscuitLover3678 · 14/01/2022 21:11

The food taste ok but a bit grim how it’s all just reheated. Not the best quality.
The clientele are a bit rough. Pretty buildings though.

BurscoughBooths · 14/01/2022 21:11

I refuse to go into any Wetherspoons because the owner is a brexit supporting tosser. Nothing to do with snobbery.
I avoid McDonald’s because the food is shite, I’d rather go without
