So..hope this doesn't out me.
We live in a very small close knit area. All kids attend the same school, lots of us live on the same few streets.
Every morning and pick up we ALL walk the kids to school, bar the few who have to rush off to work etc (it's a 5-10 min walk)
One parent on my street... drives! Big 4x4, she has NEVER once walked her DS.
She doesn't work, no where to rush off to. She has no mobility issues etc neither does the child..
Why does this iritate me so much??

Yabu- live and let live
Yanbu- she should be walking

It winds you up because you are a busy body who needs to get a hobby.

I'm now understanding the recent post on hating villages, it's the losers like you who knows everyone's business and feels entitled to judge lifestyles that make small-town living unbearable.

HTH.

Mybumlooksbig · 13/01/2022 12:05

She has one child, year 4 age.

Blackmagicqueen she does say all - but it's not at all clear who she means by "all" - all the children at school or all the children on her street or all her acquaintances... She also says "bar" the ones who rush to work and the woman she's irritated by, so "all" seems to be an exaggeration!

Malibuismysecrethome · 13/01/2022 12:07

She could have brittle asthma exacerbated by cold weather.

iklboo · 13/01/2022 12:07

I believe cars should be banned within half a mile of primary schools and a mile of secondary - with exceptions for residents within the banned area, and for those with a disabled sticker.

How easy do you think it is to get a 'disabled sticker'? They don't hand them out like sweeties.

SockFluffInTheBath · 13/01/2022 12:08

It’s really not your concern. In the nicest possible way it sounds like you need to get out a bit more and find some real issues.

orinocosfavoritecake · 13/01/2022 12:08

I’m yet to hear of a health reason for having an SUV…

Comedycook · 13/01/2022 12:08

@Malibuismysecrethome

She could have brittle asthma exacerbated by cold weather.
Why does everyone start speculating on her health conditions?! She probably is just a bit lazy...so what?! I am too!
DickMabutt73962 · 13/01/2022 12:09

@Blossomtoes

Does she drive straight home or go somewhere else? I’d be so pissed off to be watched and judged like this. Mind your own business *@Mybumlooksbig*.
I'm sure the OP and her 'close-knit' mates know the ins and outs of her daily schedule Hmm
TillyTopper · 13/01/2022 12:09

Perhaps she enjoys driving her big 4x4 - and good for her!

hashbrownsandwich · 13/01/2022 12:09

You're probably talking about me.

Stop being a self-important nosey Parker and jog on.

Mrsjayy · 13/01/2022 12:10

She maybe isn't a school mum person perhaps the thought of chatting fills her with dread at 8.45 so she drives. It isn't your business but you know that.

LCSFM · 13/01/2022 12:10

It may not necessarily be the mum's choice, maybe the child has behavioural issues or sensory struggles and it's easier for them to be taken to school in the car?

orinocosfavoritecake · 13/01/2022 12:11

And I am wondering how many of the responses defending her are from others who deep down know they shouldn’t be hogging the road in their range rovers.

Valenciaoranges · 13/01/2022 12:12

It has absolutely nothing to do with you. It reminds of people who moan about others not working hard enough in gym classes etc.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 13/01/2022 12:12

Obviously some adults and children can't walk distances and this isn't always obvious, but in general its not unreasonable to be privately irritated by people who you're pretty sure aren't in this group. Equally obviously it would be unreasonable to confront the parent antagonistically about walking.

It might well be appreciated and appropriate to ask the woman whether she'd like to walk with your group or even whether she'd like your group to walk her child. Have you offered that OP?

Its most likely that she walks because she's disorganised and doesn't like getting up in time to walk, so won't accept an offer to walk her child anyway though. If it were the child unable to walk distances lots of people still use a buggy at 4.

WakeUpLockie · 13/01/2022 12:12

My first thought reading your OP is that she dreads getting swept up in the sea of you lot walking and doesn’t want to engage in the school gates environment. Agree she should be walking from environment standpoint!

Mybumlooksbig · 13/01/2022 12:13

Child has no issues either.

She is just lazy. Maybe this is why I am so annoyed by it...

Notes taken, I'm taking up new hobby Grin

How do you know they have no disabilities etc? My daughter has autism and no one would know to look at her, I don’t drive but if I did I would drive her to school, we get the bus instead because she won’t walk or she runs off, runs into the road (it’s just safer on the bus) no one would know to look at her and we have had judgey comments for getting the bus but the school is 1 miles away which would take me on my own 15 mins but with dd it takes at least double the time

PinkWaferBiscuit · 13/01/2022 12:14

@orinocosfavoritecake

And I am wondering how many of the responses defending her are from others who deep down know they shouldn’t be hogging the road in their range rovers.
I don't drive so am I allowed to defend the poor women who is being publicly shamed for daring to drive a car.

Honestly the judgement seeps from the OPs posts and I'm sincerely hoping they don't spend their daily walks badmouthing this women in front of all their children.

Mrsjayy · 13/01/2022 12:14

there is plenty of big cars/vans/lorries on the road why single out Range Rovers ?

RainbowBridge21 · 13/01/2022 12:14

Maybe she doesnt want to get caught walking with those bitchy school mums we hear so much about on here...

EarringsandLipstick · 13/01/2022 12:14

She's very "Amanda Motherland" so if there was a genuine problem as to why she couldn't walk trust me we would know

You sound absolutely horrible.

It's none of your business. And additionally, to be writing shitty comments about her needlessly on a public forum is awful.

Sure we all make judgements but keep them in our heads, if we're half-decent. We recognise it's not a great trait & don't share it with others.

Finally, whatever her reason for doing it, we're not going to be able to enlighten you.

Cherryana · 13/01/2022 12:15

Well I don’t know how you can possibly know there is no medical issues.

I look very healthy, can walk without a limp and have been dealing with torn cartilage and an operation to put it right. Walking to my son’s school is on a hill that aggravates my hip. So I drive and will until it suits me. Not to appease other people have made up stories in their heads, based on no knowledge.
