So..hope this doesn't out me.
We live in a very small close knit area. All kids attend the same school, lots of us live on the same few streets.
Every morning and pick up we ALL walk the kids to school, bar the few who have to rush off to work etc (it's a 5-10 min walk)
One parent on my street... drives! Big 4x4, she has NEVER once walked her DS.
She doesn't work, no where to rush off to. She has no mobility issues etc neither does the child..
Why does this iritate me so much??

Yabu- live and let live
Yanbu- she should be walking

OP posts:
Chucklecheeks01 · 14/01/2022 10:14

Maybe she wants to avoid groups of gossipy parents.

MintyGreenDream · 14/01/2022 10:38

I drive the 10 minute walk as i go to the gym in the next village straight after however on the days i dont go to the gym i still drive because

1.ive got a car
2.ive got a driving licence
3.its fucking freezing
4.im an adult and can do as i wish within the law
5.i passed my test in june at age 41 and the novelty and the joy of the freedom still hasnt worn off yet

Booksandwine80 · 14/01/2022 10:51

Grin the irony of driving because you then go to the gym!

MintyGreenDream · 14/01/2022 10:52

I know its great isnt it

Indiana2021 · 14/01/2022 11:05

She is. She's very "Amanda Motherland" so if there was a genuine problem as to why she couldn't walk trust me we would know confused

Oh dear.

Maybe she thinks you're all really boring and can't be arsed talking to you. Maybe she doesn't want to walk with a 'we all walk together' group. Maybe she thinks your topics of conversations are as painful as Kevin's. Maybe it's not her. Maybe it's you Wink

Momicrone · 14/01/2022 11:10

Mintygreen, its getting people out of that individual mind set that will eventually see a shift in society - walk, run or cycle to the gym

Momicrone · 14/01/2022 11:11

Indiana2021 - I'm sure the driver has a riveting personality

CozyCushion · 14/01/2022 11:13

Not much happens in this village right?

Indiana2021 · 14/01/2022 11:20

Momicrone

I would hazard a guess that as the OP make a direct comparison to Amanda from Motherland the driver is probably attractive, has an expensive car and is well enough off not to have to work.

The whole OP smacks of bitchiness and the green eyed monster.

While I have no idea about the drivers personality I suspect that she's never started a post about the really annoying walking caterpillar mums, or whatever it is they call themselves, as she probably has more interesting things to do with her time.

Fidgetty · 14/01/2022 11:31

Christ women like you really undermine the concept of "sisterhood". Nasty and jealous by the sound of things.

LakieLady · 14/01/2022 11:33

She probably doesn't want to have to engage all sorts of chit-chat first thing in the morning. I'd drive rather than endure that.

Maybe offer to walk her kids to school if her using her car bothers you so much.

Thinkbiglittleone · 14/01/2022 11:41

Wow, you sound horrible with your judgy comments.

She probably jumps in the car rather than get tied up in walking to school with judgy people with nothing better to gossip about.

Momicrone · 14/01/2022 11:44

Oh give over with your childish jealousy retorts. I don't like smoking either, does that mean I'm jealous. This isn't the school playground

Momicrone · 14/01/2022 11:45

Oh the irony of judging someone as jealous and judgemental.

Indiana2021 · 14/01/2022 11:48

Seem to have hit a nerve Wink

LakieLady · 14/01/2022 11:50

@BiggestJulie

It’s everyone’s business, including the people who live near the school, and the children walking. Cars are polluting and the school run accounts for a huge amount of traffic.

I believe cars should be banned within half a mile of primary schools and a mile of secondary - with exceptions for residents within the banned area, and for those with a disabled sticker. Everyone would be healthier and the air the children breathe around the school would be cleaner.

Pmsl.

I live in a town of 20,000 people. It is approx 2 miles from one side to the other. The local comp is pretty near the middle.

Almost every parent would have an exemption, except for the people in the surrounding villages, who would need it the most because of the pisspoor public transport.

It's also close to a busy route through town, and anyone from the coastal towns would need to do a huge detour (approx 8-12 miles) if they were heading for the major roads to the north or west. And it would exclude anyone going to work at the 3 major local employers, many of whom have no viable public transport alternative, and rural residents who commute from the station.

There are small towns all over the county that would be similarly affected. I wouldn't be able to drive to my SIL's 28 miles away without going within 2 miles of at least 5 secondary schools.

I don't think you've really thought this through, @BiggestJulie.

Momicrone · 14/01/2022 11:51

Indiana- yes op certainly did

Indiana2021 · 14/01/2022 12:01

OK momicrone

x2boys · 14/01/2022 12:04

Mumsnet are only concerned about climate change as long as it doesn't impact them personally 🙄
Fwiw we have a mobility car for my son and a blue badge he's physically very mobile can run ,jump as well as anyone
He ,is entitled due to his severe autism and learning disabilities,,.

ParkheadParadise · 14/01/2022 12:15

This could be me.
I drive a 4x4, I drive dd to school every morning, I don't work. I do it because

1- I live in Scotland usually raining
2- I like to drop off and go
3- I can't be bothered with the gossiping school gate mums/ dads.
4- I find it really weird you would even think about this never mind starting a thread on MN

stayathomer · 14/01/2022 13:30

Mumsnet are only concerned about climate change as long as it doesn't impact them personally 🙄
Surely everyone in the world is, I mean most of us try but you can take ten steps backwards from modern day progress and not do a zillion comforting things and be miserable, cold and sick, never use technology, travel or visit people far away but ...

blahblahx · 14/01/2022 13:32

Are you jealous because you can't drive yourself?

Rubyupbeat · 14/01/2022 13:34

Cripes, they another sticky beak!
Mind your own business.
And how on earth can something as trivial as that irritate you?

Lndnmummy · 14/01/2022 13:35

Thank God I dont live in your "small close knit area". The idea breaks me out in hives.

Lou98 · 14/01/2022 13:38

@Mybumlooksbig

Child has no issues either.

She is just lazy. Maybe this is why I am so annoyed by it...

Notes taken, I'm taking up new hobby Grin

You're assuming she has no issues because she hasn't told you about them. Just because she's normally very open and tells people too much (I'm assuming by one of your posts) doesn't mean she hasn't got something wrong.

Not all disabilities are visible - I personally think it's a shitty thing to do judging someone when you're just assuming you know the facts.

Maybe she is lazy, maybe she genuinely has something wrong that you don't know about it, maybe she doesn't want to walk with you and listen to your judgy attitude 🤷‍♀️
