So..hope this doesn't out me.
We live in a very small close knit area. All kids attend the same school, lots of us live on the same few streets.
Every morning and pick up we ALL walk the kids to school, bar the few who have to rush off to work etc (it's a 5-10 min walk)
One parent on my street... drives! Big 4x4, she has NEVER once walked her DS.
She doesn't work, no where to rush off to. She has no mobility issues etc neither does the child..
Why does this iritate me so much??

Yabu- live and let live
Yanbu- she should be walking

OP posts:
LuckyMeISeeGhosts · 13/01/2022 18:33

@MissMaple82

She absolutely should be walking- people like this is the reason the world is f##ked!!!
How the fuck do you know that she 'should' be walking?
Boombastic22 · 13/01/2022 18:36

Of course she should be walking. We all should.

The sooner it costs £10 emission charge to move your car each time the better. The world is full of entitled people driving when they are perfectly capable of choosing a sustainable method of transport but are too lazy to do so .

Momicrone · 13/01/2022 18:36

We should all be looking for alternative modes of transport for short car journeys, if physically able

Momicrone · 13/01/2022 18:38

User342, I am not a fan of 4 x 4s, does that mean I'm jealous of them

Shmithecat2 · 13/01/2022 18:39

The reaction to 4x4s is fairly irrational, so jealousy is a reasonable assumption to make.

Well that's the whole bloody point isn't it.

This whole thread is based on an assumption that this women is physically able but no one, not the OP, not those slagging this women off on a daily basis on their walk or those who are berating her on a public forum actually bloody know is she is capable or not.

So maybe stop, take a minute and think you don't know why she is blooming driving so stop stating with an unknown authority that she or anyone else should be doing anything.

EmmasMum12 · 13/01/2022 18:43

If OP is right and there is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON WHY WOMAN AND CHILD CANNOT WALK TO SCHOOL , then they are lazy

But OP cannot know all the ins and outs of the situation..... whatever OP thinks, it is not possible to know everything about another person even if you know them well

So what we learn from this thread is that OP is not nice and judges a lot. 😳

Well I am sure as rne OP is so concerned she is going to offer to pick up the daughter and let her walk with them. I am sure amongst the group of gossips they can manage to watch one more child.
MarbleQueen · 13/01/2022 18:48

I’m sick of this type of virtue signalling.

Get a life ffs.

mbosnz · 13/01/2022 18:50

Wasn't there a certain somebody that said, 'let he who is without sin, cast the first stone'?

I'm sure as hell not going to judge somebody else on such a thing when my ducks are flying all over the show!

9ofpentangles · 13/01/2022 18:52

I'm 50/50. 5-10 minutes away on foot is quite lazy but then again it's her right to choose

FakingMemories · 13/01/2022 18:53

How do you know she or the child have no medical issues? Are you their GO? Or the husband?

And how do you know she doesn’t work from home?

Would you be happy with her discussing your family’s business on a public Internet forum for the whole world to see?

Beachgirl33 · 13/01/2022 19:04

Oh fuck off with you

DickMabutt73962 · 13/01/2022 19:06

@Mrsjayy

Also people are allowed to be lazy there is no law against laziness 🙄
This really 😂 everyone rushing to talk about hidden disabilities and secret errands, sometimes people do something just because they want to 🤷🏽‍♀️ you're not a better person for thinking you're saving the Earth because of your choices
GrannytoaUnicorn · 13/01/2022 19:07

@RainbowZebraWarrior

I have a pretty debilitating set of illnesses. One is called a hidden disability. I don't like to disclose it to others. It's shit enough to have to deal with it. It's 2.5 miles to school from my house. I drive every day. In a 4 x 4 as I can't get in and out of a low car. They had a walk / scoot / bike to school initiative last summer. My DD was the only one who didn't get a certificate. Oh how shit that made me feel on top of everything else.

There may well be 'nothing' wrong with her. But you have no idea of anyone's struggles behind closed doors.

Exactly the same here. No certificates were given out though, that's absolutely disgraceful!!!! Please tell me you complained to the school about that
DickMabutt73962 · 13/01/2022 19:08

@meanderingthrough

One of the TAs here lives closer around 2-300m away and drives. Likely takes her longer to clear the windscreen and find a parking space than walk. Even if she's got an undiagnosed fear of fresh air, it's not a great example to the kids.
Well if she's a TA like I was, she potentially has a second job to rush off to right after work to makeup for the measly salary that TA's are paid
Momicrone · 13/01/2022 19:12

Schmitthecat- I would say quite the opposite, a love of 4x4s is not rational

WomanStanleyWoman · 13/01/2022 19:12

It’s interesting that your first point is how ‘close-knit’ your area is and that you ALL walk the kids to school. I think THAT’S why it irritates you so much that she doesn’t. She isn’t toeing the line. You don’t give a damn that she’s lazy, or about pollution or traffic. You’re annoyed because ‘That’s not how we do things around here’. Her crime isn’t an environmental one - it’s a social one.

You’re irritated by this woman because she doesn’t fit in and, crucially, doesn’t want to fit in. She doesn’t want to walk in a big group every day, with everyone knowing each other’s business. And you can’t stand that. It’s like when a child starts a gang in the playground - half the fun is being able to tell others they’re not allowed to join. Only she doesn’t want to join, so has taken the fun out of it for you.

Momicrone · 13/01/2022 19:16

Nah it would annoy me too, but not for those reasons

gamerchick · 13/01/2022 19:19

The 'we would know' comment says a lot about what you all chat about in your walking group.

I don't think I'd want to walk with you and your community group either. Nothing worse than the school run clique. Just no.

Willyoujustbequiet · 13/01/2022 19:22

You can't possibly know about her personal circumstances or hidden disabilities so you and a few others judging are just flagging yourself up as ignorant.

@BiggestJulie
Having the police give out lots of tickets for excessive idling and blocking driveways for several days would help. I agree with you that parking further from the school and walking your child to the gate. To promote independence, why not let children walk themselves into school, providing crossing guards as necessary.? At seven, my brother would park two blocks from our private school, and I made my way to the playground and classroom from there. Having rotating TAs or teachers on the playground could eliminate parents of older children waiting in the yard and needing to park.
Air pollution is a serious problem, and uptake of electric cars will be slow due to poor infrastructure. Clean air is essential for children, and woukd help with high asthma rates.

Ericaequites · 13/01/2022 19:34

@Boombastic22 - Many people live in places where there is no public transport and distances too far to walk. I live five miles from the nearest bus route. I would have to walk four miles to a convenience store. I can’t afford to move. Congestion charges as you suggest would make it impossible for many people to work, shop, or attend activities. It would bankrupt fragile rural economies.

Momicrone · 13/01/2022 19:36

You want clean air? You'll be accused of 'virtue signalling' next
