If there was an election tomorrow, who would you vote for?

Obviously the Tories are a complete shitshow, but Labour aren’t a lot better and I couldn’t hand on heart vote for either in good conscience right now.

So… IF a snap election was called, like in December 2019, who would you vote for? Would it make a difference to you if Boris was replaced as Tory leader? Would you even bother voting or maybe go for a totally different national or local party?

Just curious!

We do really well for the 6 of us
It feels like a much louder voice than that, and one which is trying to drown out any other issue. And make no mistake: a spoiled ballot is a vote for the incumbent candidate - more than likely a Tory.

ilovesooty · 15/01/2022 11:13

And @MrBlobby,of course you can use your vote as you please. Your agenda is clear and you can pursue it at the ballot box. Other views and voices should be heard..

DestroyerOfHouseplants · 15/01/2022 11:25

Such a hugely difficult question. I think there's nobody credible in Labour and echo others' points here about the erosion of women's rights with Lib Dem and Greens. If Tories could get rid of their hideously outdated, public school elite cronies and actually move into the modern age then they'd have a chance. As they stand they are mostly just dinosaurs led by a morally bankrupt baffoon.

Terfydactyl · 15/01/2022 11:33

@hopperrock

You seem worried that a lot of women think the same

I think the numbers are very small and probably wouldn't have any effect on an election result given how few votes actually count in a meaningful way. But yes I am amazed that people call themselves feminists while supporting a party whose policies have caused such harm to so many women over the last 10+ years. The only explanation I can think of for a feminist knowingly making life worse for other women is that if you're relatively unaffected by who's in power and don't care much for others, maybe you can afford such principles and live comfortably with them. Many women are not in that position.

It feels like a much louder voice than that, and one which is trying to drown out any other issue. And make no mistake: a spoiled ballot is a vote for the incumbent candidate - more than likely a Tory

So we are many yet we are also few, yet we take over every other issue.

Or we are many, we care about women and this is our line in the sand?
I suppose when a GE finally happens we will see.

hopperrock · 15/01/2022 11:38

Oh well if they're polling well, maybe your time has come nearly eh?

I am not a Labour voter, so not my time, no.

hopperrock · 15/01/2022 11:48

So we are many yet we are also few, yet we take over every other issue.

Surely it's not difficult for you to understand that one person can think that the numbers are small and another person can think that there are more than 6? And be fed up that a thread about the next election has become all about self ID?

They don't care. They're the equivalent of the voice in the pub or at meetings that insists on talking over and pursuing their own preferred line of conversation. I'm getting fed up with it and it seems I'm not alone in that.

Right , so you post why you'd vote for whoever and I post why I'd vote for whoever and then someone inevitably says ( to the gc crowd) that we are wrong because and usually that we are bigots and a bit more lambasting to really drive home that we are wrong. And then gc poster defends their reason and then it all looks like a takeover. I mean that's the whole debate idea I guess. Oddly it's very rare that GC poster derides non GC poster for their reasons to vote, usually we just say something like well you vote as you see fit and I'll vote my way. And any lurkers see this played out time after time and potentially go look at the womens rights board, and fall down rabbit hole and then come out GC. Que sera sera
heelforheelandtoefortoe · 15/01/2022 12:05

Labour

Only because the only other alternative is SNP and I loathe them. Don't agree with independence or the GRA.

Not a fan of Raynor at all but Starmer seems okay (albeit wooden).

A vote for the Tories is wasted up here

SecretKeeper1 · 15/01/2022 12:06

Indeed. I started this thread more as a “bloody hell, we’re stuck between a rock and a hard place” and didn’t think it would turn into full on rant complete with essays and manifestos.

Sorry, everyone! Blush

Well that's fairly naive of you. Starting a conversation about politics will always lead to debate. What is more, there is nothing wrong with debate. If you set up such a thread again you need to stipulate one word answers in your op. Then accept you'll attract less engagement because who's going to read through twenty pages of party names.
ItsSnowJokes · 15/01/2022 12:20

I live in a true blue area. And literally all the constituencies that surround us are true blue. I will vote Labour but it is a waste of time, we will never be able to oust the shit that is the Conservative party from here. They could literally come and shit on everyone's Xmas Dinner and they would still be voted in. It makes me weep.

Terfydactyl · 15/01/2022 12:23

So all you actually wanted were one word answers?
Could have specified that at the beginning and none of us would be here.

So do I but am taking hope from North Shropshire . . .
LizzieW1969 · 15/01/2022 12:40

I’ll be voting Labour, in order to get the Tories out; that’s the only party that can beat them in my constituency. I’m not comfortable about it because of their stance on self ID, but this lot really need to be voted out.

SecretKeeper1 · 15/01/2022 12:53

Nope. But also thought people would be grown up enough not to start belittling others .

None of the main parties that is a definite.

The Monster Raving Loony party maybe?

Mammyloveswine · 15/01/2022 13:01

Labour without a doubt...

pilates · 15/01/2022 13:02

Not Labour

ilovesooty · 15/01/2022 13:12

I think those of us committed to a change of government really need to see some form of progressive alliance working strategically on targeting sitting Conservative candidates.

Brieandcamembert · 15/01/2022 13:12

Tories every time. I believe you get out of life what you put in it.

eyeblob · 15/01/2022 13:27

Labour. Not keen on self ID issue but 2ill still vote for them. Won't vote LD after the one time I voted tactically to get Tories out and they teamed up with them.
Wouldn't vote green because of the non men business.
Live in true blue area so won't make a difference anyway sadly.

WorriedMumsDontSleep · 15/01/2022 14:04

Interesting this is a line in the sand for you for them, but not for Labour shoe share the exact same thinking.

WorriedMumsDontSleep · 15/01/2022 14:12

Spoiled Ballot.
Would it make a difference to you if Boris was replaced as Tory leader?
Not really, we could get Give instead.
Would you even bother voting
I'd go through the process, yes, so my lack of vite isn't interpreted as laziness.
or maybe go for a totally different national or local party?
There is no one currently that reflects my values and that I can vote for in my area.

Yes, this. It’s really disappointing that it is the only way the tories would be unseated in my constituency, but last time around they wouldn’t consider it.
