How often should I shower?

Ok so I'm having a few drinks with friends last night. We are all female a mix of parents and non parents. One friend mentions she is struggling to find time for o shower every day since she had her baby. I said "well I don't shower every day without a young baby," All of my friends looked at me in horror. Apparently even the ones with kids shower daily. Full disclosure I have two dd one under five and I work part time. I shower on work days plus one extra day so usually three times a week my days off usually consist of playing at home, walking dog, school run and maybe park. I would shower extra if exercising/having sex/on period etc. I bath my dc three times a week. My oh works out every week day so he does shower more than me. AIBD? (Disgusting 😂)

Twice a day on holiday. It works for me

Same here. Bliss.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 12/01/2022 11:46

@Chloemol

Sorry to me 3 times a week is grim

I shower most days, very very occasionally I will miss a day

Grim for you. You might smell more than others if you don't shower as often. It isn't grim for others and it doesn't make them grim.
Gilly12345 · 12/01/2022 11:46

Shower daily sometimes two times a day if we have a heatwave.

Always have showered daily even when my twins were babies.

loloballlolo · 12/01/2022 11:47

every other day is enough!

Spidey66 · 12/01/2022 11:47

Daily here 99% of the time. Exceptions are if im very sick or occasionally if im having a duvet day, but even on duvet days I normally do.

I broke my shoulder mid September and for about a month I only showered about twice a week, tied in with hospital visits, due to pain, practical issues of having a shower eg i had surgery and had to keep dressing dry. But that period was the exception to the rule.

User48751490 · 12/01/2022 11:47

I need to shower daily or I would stink.

DH showers alternate days because he doesn't have same BO issues I do.

@BusterGonad

I never knew people still had dettol baths! What is that all about? I grew up without a shower, I bathed once or twice a week. I've never smelt bad at all. Now I'm pretty much the same. I only shower to wash my hair, probably once a week, it doesn't need it more often. It's thick, and not greasy, in fact it looks its best a few days after it's been washed. I have a bath once a week too. I think people who think it's disgusting are either natural quite smelly or just clean freaks really. Obviously I bathe more if I'm doing physical work, on period etc but other than that I look and smell perfectly fine. I hate to think of how much water and electric is wasted, I'm guessing a lot of the once or twice a day washers also wear their clothes once?
I put a cap full of Dettol in DS bath. It allows all the little cuts and scrapes he has to have a bit of antiseptic and warm water in them. He also likes the smell 😂🤷🏻‍♀️ he also loves the smell of cutacura talc, so my 7 year old smells like a little old man 😂

I wash with imperial leather soap bar, the classic one and and use imperial leather talc after a shower, we walk round smelling like the 1950's 😂

rookiemere · 12/01/2022 11:49

I shower every day, but when I was young - in the 70s - before showers, weekly baths were the norm. My DM still discusses a flannel wash which effectively means cleaning armpits and groin area in between.
I'd find it odd not showering every day, but I don't think it's strictly necessary.

Lucienandjean · 12/01/2022 11:49

I shower every other day, occasionally every day if the weather is hot or I've been doing heavy physical work. Obviously I also wash in between.

My skin wouldn't cope with every day showering.

I think the people who think that is 'grim' should try living with skin conditions before they get all judgemental about other people's habits. It's perfectly possible to be clean without daily showers.

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 12/01/2022 11:51

Oh I love imperial leather bar soap!

SockFluffInTheBath · 12/01/2022 11:52

I’m a sweaty person and my sweat smells pretty strongly so I use chemical warfare level deodorant and shower twice daily. If I showered 3x per week I would be humming.

Some people aren’t smelly though. If you’re clean enough then I suppose it’s ok.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 12/01/2022 11:53

TMI I know but everyone's bottom and armpits should be showered every day or they smell.

notyouagainn · 12/01/2022 11:54

@yellowsmileyface

I shower about 3 times a week, too, so obviously I think it's fine!

I have sensory issues and I absolutely hate showering (the noise, the feel of the water hitting my skin... it's an attack on the senses for me). I wouldn't want to have a bath everyday as it'd be wasteful of water and much more time consuming. I'll have an extra wash at the sink if I feel I need it.

Yes I understand I hate water on my face so prefer a bath but showers are quicker.
pantaloonie · 12/01/2022 11:54

@WaystarRoycoCEO

Personally I think 3 times a week is pretty grim, sorry. I am a shower everyday person. I can’t get going in the morning without one to be honest.

Me too. I shower every day without fail. Sometimes twice a day.

I shower 3-4 times a week, I don't think it's grim, it's natural!

ravenmum · 12/01/2022 11:57

Anyone who stinks within 12-24 hours of showering might like to try using washing products that do not contain actual soap, as it removes your skin's natural protective barrier, encouraging the growth of smelly bacteria. (Washing too frequently has the same effect.) Look for products with a pH of around 5. (Soap has a pH of 9-10.)

notyouagainn · 12/01/2022 11:57

@Bollindger

You do you. So funny how complete strangers are trying to tell you what you should do.
Well op asked for everyone's opinion
appleturnovers · 12/01/2022 11:57

YANBU.

I shower 2-3 times a week (unless I've done a particularly dirty activity or it's summer and I'm really hot and sweaty). I wash in the sink every morning without fail and put deodorant on, so not showering =/= not washing. But I just think there's no point showering every day if you haven't done an especially dirty activity. As long as you've washed your armpits, face and bum, the skin of your arms, back, legs etc. isn't exactly going to stink if you don't wash them daily, are they? Plus it's bad for your skin to shower too much, and bad for the environment. Plus, frankly, I can't be bothered, especially in winter, when it's freezing cold, I want to spend as little time undressed as possible.

Bananarama21 · 12/01/2022 11:58

I couldn't imagine not showering every day, I shower every day sometimes twice days when im the pool( swimming teacher) only time I wouldn't if I was really poorly tbh. I could do it three times a week.

LuckyAmy1986 · 12/01/2022 11:58

Perhaps you just don't wash yourself properly when you do have a shower? That's why you need to do it do often? So sort yourself out and give yourself a proper wash. GRIM

ivfbabymomma1 · 12/01/2022 11:58

Yep I shower every day too! (I only wash my hair 3 times a week though)

Emerald5hamrock · 12/01/2022 11:59

Once a month is fine.

I couldn't imagine life without a disability, but there we go
LuckyAmy1986 · 12/01/2022 12:00

I wash in the sink every morning without fail and put deodorant on, so not showering =/= not washing

What does washing in the sink involve please? Would it not be easier to have a quick shower?
