How often should I shower?

grosstonotshower · 12/01/2022 10:36

Ok so I'm having a few drinks with friends last night. We are all female a mix of parents and non parents. One friend mentions she is struggling to find time for o shower every day since she had her baby. I said "well I don't shower every day without a young baby," All of my friends looked at me in horror. Apparently even the ones with kids shower daily. Full disclosure I have two dd one under five and I work part time. I shower on work days plus one extra day so usually three times a week my days off usually consist of playing at home, walking dog, school run and maybe park. I would shower extra if exercising/having sex/on period etc. I bath my dc three times a week. My oh works out every week day so he does shower more than me. AIBD? (Disgusting 😂)

Yes you’re right, possibly best ignored. OP must really be a master bunfight starter because I genuinely didn’t think my morning shower was so controversial!

waterlego · 12/01/2022 22:03

I shower every day but I don’t judge you or think you disgusting for showering less often. I think you probably know your own body better than anyone else does, including anonymous strangers on here, some of whom will judge you, unfortunately. You crack on and shower when it suits you. The environment and your skin will be thanking you. 💐

And still neither of you have answered my question 🤣

Ok, your goady question, let’s get down to that.

I never said anyone was grim/gross, so I also don’t think disabled people are grim/gross. I said different strokes for different folks, but for the majority of able bodied adults it won’t be easier to wash all the pertinent bits over the sink than have a quick shower. So hope that answers your question.

Gaslighting Confused

In my first post I literally said I shower daily but the only part of op I found odd was the suggestion that it’s normal to sit round at lunch and have a good chinwag about how often you all shower. Other than that it’s horses for courses.

And yet the thread is chock full of people insisting that showering daily is abnormal/environmentally wrong/privileged behaviour.

Of course there’s the occasional ‘yuck I bleach myself down once an hour you’re a minger’ but it’s mumsnet and that’s expected.

And yet more gaslighting. The thread is full of posters shaming those who don’t shower every day, for whatever reason, and wallowing in their sense of superiority.

It’s so odd to gloat over this. Some people really need to get a life.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 12/01/2022 22:08

@Kanaloa no I know you didn't. But purple did and I just wanted to know what made me not gross or smelly or grim as I only manage to shower every other day as a disabled person. But my DP is gross and smelly because he isn't

ayegazumba · 12/01/2022 22:08

I thought everyone showered everyday. People saying it's normal not to is news to me and a bit gross to be honest. How often do you brush your teeth??

PurpleRainlnTheSky · 12/01/2022 22:09

Exactly @Kanaloa it's much easier to hop in the shower, than it is to faff about washing your pits, tits, and bits in the kitchen sink with a fecking flannel! Confused

Arabellla · 12/01/2022 22:10
@Kanaloa

However I do think you’re trying to pick holes in random responses. Nobody has said ‘oh disabled people are minging not even having a shower.’ People are obviously aware that if you’re not able to shower you do the best you can to wash up insofar as you can. Nobody is out to attack that, people are just responding to the op’s (tbh troll) question of how often should SHE shower, and she says the reason she doesn’t is that she doesn’t have time.

Your repeated attacks of fairly innocuous posts make it seem like you’re trying really hard to make people look ableist when obviously people aren’t referring to those who can’t shower.

Thanks for this kanaola. This is a way more accurate description of what has been going on here. Why 2 particular posters are behaving in such a bizarre and frankly shocking manner, goading and bullying people who say stuff they don't agree with is baffling. As is the LOL-ing hysterically, and back-slapping each other, when they think they've 'got one over on someone.'

And the constant mistruths and saying people have said things they haven't said is just disgusting tbh. They have already driven off one poster, I won't be driven away, I just refuse to respond to anyone baiting and goading. I won't respond to ANYONE baiting and goading, and people lying about what I have said.

Not at any point did I say disabled people smell, and I am disgusted that it was suggested that I did. The post where a poster accused me of saying this was rightfully deleted.

@kanaloa

And it seems like quite a few people are getting really heated at the suggestion that anyone showers daily, when in fact it’s a pretty accepted social norm to do so. Most of us were simply replying to the odd idea that it’s somehow easier to wash yourself over the sink than to get in the shower, when for most people a sink wash would be considerably less comfortable and harder to get clean.

Exactly this! Several posters here really seriously do have issues. Sad They're best ignored tbh.
You implied disabled people smell and were deleted for it. At least own it.

As is the LOL-ing hysterically, and back-slapping each other, when they think they've 'got one over on someone.'

Actually that was you @DrSbaitso. I haven’t LOL’d or backslapped anyone.

You have this weird habit of attributing your own actions to others.

What's brushing your teeth got to do with having a shower? I manage my teeth ok.
Kanaloa · 12/01/2022 22:11

I did see a ‘new year habits to start in your 20s’ on Instagram and one of them was ‘brush teeth twice a day.’

So maybe not everyone is doing that. Must let my kids know they’re out ahead of the curve!

You’d be better off teaching your kids not to gang up with ableist people, which is what you’ve done on this thread.
mewe3 · 12/01/2022 22:16

At least once a day. Rarely I will go in both in the morning and before bed if I have been out and feel gross after. I don't see why you wouldn't everyone has a spare two mins to wash down, there's no better feeling than feeling fresh for the day

Kanaloa · 12/01/2022 22:17

I haven’t ganged up on anyone, disabled or not. My very first post literally said I shower daily but do what you want, who cares. The only posts I responded to were those insisting it’s somehow easier and better to wash over the sink than have a shower, where I made sure to state several times I was referring to ‘the majority of able bodied adults.’

You’ve clearly got some personal problem or you’re trying to attack me for all the comments you disagree with even though I didn’t write most of them. If you go through my posts you would not be able to quote one ableist comment I’ve made, because I simply haven’t made any.

You sound kind of over the top and fixated on this. I genuinely don’t mind if you don’t shower ever day, it makes no odds to me. As I’ve said I don’t even know how often my own family shower.

saraclara · 12/01/2022 22:19

I'm in bed having not showered
dopple · 12/01/2022 22:23

You can definitely tell when someone doesn't shower regularly. It smells sweaty/musty, hair looks greasy.
I shower every day to smell clean and to feel refreshed.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 12/01/2022 22:23

Oh dear lord @Trekkerbabe you grim person you. How do you even sleep with yourself?!

Arabellla · 12/01/2022 22:23

I’ve read your posts Kana and you tried to gaslight @AllThingsServeTheBeam that Purple didn’t make an ableist comment, even though she was deleted for it.

You’ve then extrapolated with others not showering every day into people not brushing their teeth either.

So yes, that’s ganging up.

Trekkerbabe · 12/01/2022 22:24

@AllThingsServeTheBeam

Oh dear lord *@Trekkerbabe* you grim person you. How do you even sleep with yourself?!

I think I'm going to kick myself out of bed for being so stinky.

FruitMelange · 12/01/2022 22:25

I don't understand why anyone would wash at a sink unless they are unable to shower

For me, if im in a hurry, it's a lot quicker.
Sometimes I kneel in the bath and use a flannel with hot running water, for more efficient rinsing. You don't have to wet your whole body so less drying to do and no chance of hair fizzing, which mine always does in the shower.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 12/01/2022 22:27

@Trekkerbabe just make sure you have a full shower. You can't possibly clean yourself properly at a sink!
