I had a day that just really banged me about, physically, emotionally, just all the ways, and now, I’m laying here awake and staring at the ceiling.

So why are you awake? Crying baby? Can’t stop thinking? Worried about something tomorrow? Pain somewhere in your body being an arsehole?

Welcome?

Feeding my babies

5YearsLeft · 12/01/2022 02:35

@BooseysMom Sorry to hear about your aches! I do hope the hour passes quickly and then you're back to dreamland.

@Xyzzzzz Ahhh. Well, hopefully those will pass quickly too, and you can also get back to sleep.

@ToManySnacks I'm sorry. Waiting is one of the hardest parts; I've had to go through it many times, and I see one of my doctors tomorrow, and then I'll be in it again myself (waiting for more blood results). It's not fair at all that you have to deal with numerous conditions before you're 40, or spending half a day in the cardiac centre. I hope maybe it's something that can improve?

@lboogy Hopefully, they'll drift back to sleep soon and allow you to find some sleep, too!

Half way through a night shift. Just caught my first baby Grin (student Midwife)

5YearsLeft · 12/01/2022 02:39

@Laffielle CONGRATS! That's so exciting, and good for you! I hope he or she has a wonderful life and that your training continues to go well!

Expressing milk for baby, I've taken over from dp who does the first 4 hours of the night feeding baby, this way we each get a chunk of sleep as otherwise we'd both be awake all night.
Thinking of going to the gym tomorrow morning before dp goes to work but if baby keeps up his 2 hourly wake ups then I'll be too tired.

5YearsLeft · 12/01/2022 02:43

@Crystaldoves Ok well, I've got all my fingers crossed that baby will lay down for the next four hours so you can have your gym time. You can do it, baby!

Thinking about my dad who is in hospital, they're saying his treatment looks to have stopped working. I'll take all the prayers and good vibes etc anyone's got for him.

Been watching Good Girls on Netflix to take my mind off it for a while.

BaggaTDoubleTroubleDoubleG · 12/01/2022 03:09

Awake with 15 week old DS. He wakes every two hours at the moment which is grinding us down a bit. Also
Have DD in bed. She’s been saying she’s tired and been off her food, and then yesterday several staff members tested positive for Covid at her nursery. I’m guessing it could well be the reason for her being off colour and wondering if she will let me do a LFT as she refused the last time and there were lots of tears. I’m so uncomfortable with the idea of forcing her, and not sure what we can do.

All these night owls about - it is so not me. I like to be in bed by 10pm these days, snd happily up at 6am. Definitely an early bird.

5YearsLeft · 12/01/2022 03:13

@HeadPain Oh, no. I'm so, so sorry to hear this. I know that when they say something like that, it's just like someone just punched you in the gut. You can actually feel yourself doubling over inside, like you can't get enough air. I really, really hope that they find a way to get his treatment working, in a best case scenario, and if that's not to be, that you're able to be with him, and he's in no pain, no suffering, and things are the best they can possibly be. We pray for a miracle, and we prepare for the best possible outcome. The very, VERY best of luck to you and your da. And I completely understand that desire to take your mind off it for a while with Netflix. Let me know if you need any other Netflix recommendations.

Sleeping patterns are weird, perhaps a peri menopausal thing. I fell asleep on the settee at about 8 and am now wide awake at 3. Luckily there’s no-one around to annoy, but I think I need a bit of reprogramming!

Thomasina79 · 12/01/2022 03:16

I’m a chronic insomniac, broken nights are the norm for me. I can get to sleep ok, but then wake at regular intervals, usually to wee. I’ve tried everything, melatonin, herbal Nytol, Non herbal nytol, talking with GP who is very helpful, avoiding screens before bed. I also suffer from sleep related symptoms such as myoclonic jerks, restless legs, sleep paralysis which is terrifying. At least I can usually get back to sleep eventually. The worst thing is the day time sleepiness, especially if I’m at work. My best bit of sleep is the hour before I have to get up. Eventually I think my body clock will adjust. I long for a full night uninterrupted night! We also have separate rooms as I have a snoring partner! My dreams are technicolour film sets.

Any help out there?

UnsuitableHat · 12/01/2022 03:16

@HeadPain sorry to hear about your dad - hope you do get some rest tonight. x

1AngelicFruitCake · 12/01/2022 03:18

I’ve got Covid. Aching and can’t get comfortable. No appetite so barely ate yesterday. Trying to plan food I feel like eating!

Queenie6655 · 12/01/2022 03:18

In labour about to have a baby

Are so much yummy food jn hospital today and the bed and room js just so comfy also xxxx

5YearsLeft · 12/01/2022 03:20

@BaggaTDoubleTroubleDoubleG Yeah, I think even "night owls" would be ground down by a constant "wake" cycle of every two hours. It's either stay up or go to sleep, and once you go to sleep, you stay asleep. I'm sorry about your daughter! It does sound like it might be beneficial to do a test. Would bribery help at all? Or doing it in her mouth instead of her nose? BUT I also thought (and I'm really shaky on this) that the guidance for toddlers now was if others around them have tested positive and they're symptomatic, just treat them as if they're positive, and skip the LFT. Unless you REALLY can't or don't want to isolate - then you need to find a way to do the LFT. I mentioned bribery, but really there are two ways.

  1. BIg song and dance about how she's a big girl, you bribe her, you tell her she's so brave about it, etc.
  2. You have one person hold her, you don't say anything about how you're going to do it until right before you do it, and then you just do it as quickly as possible so it's done with. I've seen it done this way, and the child didn't actually cry until it was over.
But only you know your child best. Good luck, as I'm sure it's so stressful.

@PlantingTulips omg thank you, that's amazing advice! He's just fallen asleep on the sofa. I've not tried the sachets in the bath, will get some tomorrow. I forgot about epaderm, I used it a few years ago on myself. Massive thanks to you

ToManySnacks · 12/01/2022 03:26

@BaggaTDoubleTroubleDoubleG
My sister had the same with her son, they just isolated for 10 days.
If your little one really cant have a test, but has been in very close contact with others that are positive
I think thats the only real option you have

ToManySnacks · 12/01/2022 03:27

So exciting
Glad that you are relaxed and happy :)

@Queenie6655

mum2jakie · 12/01/2022 03:29

Just randomly woke up - feeling cold - and remembered that son's favourite school trousers are still in the wash so hung them out to dry. Just off to go back to sleep now!

5YearsLeft · 12/01/2022 03:29

@UnsuitableHat I definitely hear that. If I can sleep, I then awaken with a pain around 2-3am, and then... it's all just a mess. I also could do with a bit of a reprogram.

@Thomasina79 Have you asked for counseling? There are actual medications for different kind of sleep problems (falling asleep, staying asleep, having night terrors, restless sleep issues). I assume maybe explaining all the sleep problems you have, they might be able to work out a sleep plan for you? Because what you're going through sounds like it's not something that would just be solved by not drinking caffeine after 5pm or not looking at phone screens after 9pm; it's much more in-depth than that. My friend had a condition that caused I think both restless legs and sleep paralysis and I think they gave him a medication that put him into a more "dreamless" sleep, but I don't remember enough about the situation. Still, I would say the first port of call would be your GP and then a sleep specialist.

@1AngelicFruitCake Oh gosh, that's tough. So many people have the COVID aches. Have you tried wrapping an electric blanket around the parts that ache the worst? (Arms, legs, etc). It may help.

@Queenie6655 Congratulations!!! Looks like they may have started a little bit of your painkillers, haha, or you may just be so exhausted that it's affecting your typing a bit. But I'm so glad you're well-fed and comfortable. I hope everything goes well!
