I had a day that just really banged me about, physically, emotionally, just all the ways, and now, I’m laying here awake and staring at the ceiling.

So why are you awake? Crying baby? Can’t stop thinking? Worried about something tomorrow? Pain somewhere in your body being an arsehole?

Welcome?

@TwoBigNoisyBoys I could write 20 paragraphs about what a pain in the arse steroids are so instead I’ll just say, I’m sorry! I was once so tired from steroid insomnia that I had my phone next to a measuring cup and I poured milk into my phone screen instead of the cup Grin I do hope that the chemo did everything you needed it to do, that the steroids aren’t being TOO evil, and that you do manage to go back to bed and get some rest!

@Fetchthevet I’m so sorry your DD isn’t feeling well! I’m sure you’re exhausted and worried. Hopefully her body will let her nod off to sleep, too, so she can get the rest that she needs for the healing process.

@dumphies21 I’m so sorry to hear your DP is not with us. Seems like a simple thing you’re looking for, but I can understand how that might be more difficult than one would think! Good luck with it! If no one on this thread had any ideas, then maybe try starting a thread on Chat or AIBU about it. I’m sure there’s somebody with a DP/DH or even they themselves have manly writing. @dumphies21 Erk, sorry about that last typo. I hope it all works out!

I actually fell asleep for about an hour (!) but then pain awakened me again (booo) so I’m hoping I’ll fall asleep again, fingers crossed.

Lost my dad 9 days ago and mum isn't coping at all. She has alzheimers and it seems that in her head it's still day 1, nobody has been told and the funeral needs arranging. Every thing is arranged, everyone knows and mum has been involved every step of the way. Yesterday she tried to engage a different funeral director as she had forgotten everything and just picked one at random from a 2016 yellow pages. I don't live locally and was working from home yesterday and got 3 phone calls to tell me dad has died. Wednesday I was there all day, we had the meeting with the celebrant, and I got 2 calls on the way home, a few minutes apart, to tell me dad has died.

Finallygotme · 28/01/2022 04:54

@dumphies21

I'm trying to find someone with "manly" writing to scribble my dearly departed DP's wedding speech down so I can have it framed - would do it myself but I have traditionally "girly" writing - if anyone on here wants to volunteer their DH, I'd be eternally grateful (and pay postage and paper costs)
Just bumping this incase anyone can help. I can only write in capitals, I'm not sure it being shouted at you is quite what you are looking for. Flowers
Finallygotme · 28/01/2022 04:56

Sorry to hear that country maybe the funeral will make it more real to your mum, what a difficult time Flowers

Finallygotme · 28/01/2022 04:56

I'm awake because of bloody covid insomnia

dumphies21 · 28/01/2022 05:10

Oh @countrygirl99 that sounds so so tough - sending all my love to you and yours x

5YearsLeft · 28/01/2022 05:16

@countrygirl99 That is unbelievably tough. Dealing with the loss yourself, trying to help your mother, and then her unintentionally but still painfully making it worse (calling you again and again to tell you that your dad is dead). Time doesn’t necessarily heal wounds, but it will make the pain less raw and fresh, though I wish I had an answer about how to make things better for your mother. Alzheimer’s is an absolute bastard. I’m sorry you’re facing two losses of different types - your father who is gone now and your mother slowly losing herself. Good luck, and be very gentle with yourself, because you’re going through so, so much right now.

@Finallygotme Yoire definitely not alone; there are a few with COVID insomnia just on this thread and if that’s a tiny sample of the country, then there must be tons. It’s a damn unpleasant symptom, and I really do hope it wears off for you soon!!! And everyone else as well, ha.

countrygirl99 · 28/01/2022 05:24

I'm hoping she will settle down after the funeral but I'm not convinced. Like many with alzheimers she doesn't realise there is anything wrong ,she will have forgotten today's chaos by the time she went to bed, so doesn't accept the help she needs.

Wallywobbles · 28/01/2022 05:39

Ah some confusion. Dog owner not the same person as the chap we got our sheep from.

Finallygotme · 28/01/2022 06:07

Some confusion Wally ? I'd say that was a bit of a understatement.

catwomando · 28/01/2022 07:51

Good morning all. After my post I listened to some sift music and eventually slept.

A wonderful dream followed in which I could fly! Soaring through the sky, swooping down and back up again. So liberating Grin

I've woken up all soothed. Have a good day eveyone

5YearsLeft · 28/01/2022 09:53

Hey all - we survive another night! I think slept from about 5 to 10 my time and now on the way to find the internet info at my new apartment.

@countrygirl99 My grandmother had dementia and I know what you mean. You can’t argue anything anymore because you won’t win, you’ll just upset them, they won’t remember, and it all “resets” tomorrow. I really wish you at least a little peace for the days ahead

@Wallywobbles Ah! I do see “old chap in the village” about buying the sheep now. Er, I feel a bit like an unfunny comedy routine: “He sold you the sheep… then KILLED them?!?” Sorry about that. I understand now. I do think the man with the dogs is horrible though.

@catwomando So glad sleep found you and you had a restful, and awesome!, dream. Nothing like a soothing wake up.

Have a good day (as good as possible; we’ll be thinking of you especially @bloodywhitecat) and we’ll (probably) be back tonight.

And once again, welcome to the after-midnight thread. Whatever is keeping you up, whether it’s thoughts, feelings, or other human beings, this is the place for it. Friday nights are usually a little bit slower, but if you’re up, somebody is probably here, and you’re not alone.

@bloodywhitecat I hope the visit from the district nurses was helpful.

@Coroico97 I’m sending all the good vibes that your sciatica calms down and grants you sleep tonight.

And for all those who are grieving or hurting, I do hope you find the kind of rest you need, even if you can’t sleep.

BHX3000 · 29/01/2022 00:19

Have been reading the thread these weeks but not checking in. NC but I did post earlier on.

Insomnia is at play again tonight. I also can’t stop thinking about an important event in July which I really shouldn’t be obsessing about yet, but can’t help it. My brain just won’t stop thinking urghhhhh.

I’ve white noise on, earplugs, have tried different lightings… it just won’t work. Happy weekend everybody Smile

ImNotDancing · 29/01/2022 00:31

I’m back with you tonight! Slept beautifully last night so kind of expected a late night tonight!

5YearsLeft · 29/01/2022 00:31

@BHX3000 No worries; I know the thread’s been up a while so name changes happen. Sorry about the insomnia is getting you! Amazing how our brains just will NOT listen about calendars; if it wants to ruminate about something in July at 2am, it’s going to. Sounds like you’ve tried everything and sometimes, it just doesn’t work.

5YearsLeft · 29/01/2022 00:32

@ImNotDancing Well, very glad you got one night of beautiful sleep, though welcome back with us tonight, ha. Sometimes that schedule just sucks.

I've not gone to sleep yet I'm currently cuddling a cat ❤️🤣

ImNotDancing · 29/01/2022 00:36

@5YearsLeft how has your day been?

5YearsLeft · 29/01/2022 00:45

@purpleme12 Cuddling a cat sounds like a great reason. Does she still have the sock??

@ImNotDancing Eh, ups and downs. Went and saw the new park we’ll be living by, which is wonderful, but got hurt trying to walk around and handle the bus (sigh) and just really… really worn out with pain at the moment.

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 29/01/2022 00:48

@5YearsLeft are you getting confused with another cat 🤣

I'm sorry it's so painful for you 😞 x

ImNotDancing · 29/01/2022 00:48

@5YearsLeft do you have chance for some rest tomorrow? What’s the new place like?

autienotnaughty · 29/01/2022 00:54
