I had a day that just really banged me about, physically, emotionally, just all the ways, and now, I’m laying here awake and staring at the ceiling.

So why are you awake? Crying baby? Can’t stop thinking? Worried about something tomorrow? Pain somewhere in your body being an arsehole?

Welcome?

How's your day been @5YearsLeft?

5YearsLeft · 28/01/2022 01:10

@purpleme12 Ups and downs. My husband signed a lease on a new apartment for us which is a huge up - I need a fresh start even if it’s close to the end. But I spent the day with a headache so couldn’t celebrate much. I’m hoping to go down there tomorrow (I have to check the cable box number) and take a picture or two of the new park we’ll be a block away from, which is the part I’m so excited about. It has a building in the middle that could be right out of stately homes, ha.

I'm glad there were some good things in your day xx

Coroico97 · 28/01/2022 01:20

Me again with my sciatica!! And now I have busy legs and can’t settle!! No chance of going to sleep!! Hope you are okay @5YearsLeft. Maybe you are ASLEEP!! I hope so.

5YearsLeft · 28/01/2022 01:40

@purpleme12 Thanks so much, purple. That’s so kind.

@Coroico97 Oh gosh, that sciatica of yours is an absolute arsehole. I’m sorry you’re STILL dealing with it, and I’m sure every day is a countdown to your surgery (is it 27 days to go now?). Ugh, nerves really are right bastards - pain, tingling, stabbing, burning, ants marching - they can do it all. I hope maybe you can find some combo of heat or ice that can help some for tonight. As for being asleep, I’m hoping it’ll hit soon! Ha.

I'm here again, cramps and feel like I'm about to spend the next few hours on the toilet.... I had egg on toast for tea so I'm hoping it's just the eggs churning my stomach and not a bug 😭

EerieSilence · 28/01/2022 01:46

DH snoring- left overs from Omicron last week.
DDog hogging my blanket.
A helicopter cruising over our heads - probably looking for someone in the river.

5YearsLeft · 28/01/2022 01:52

@MonicaGellerBing Oh no! I’ll hope with you that it’s just a momentary stomach upset and not a bug. Though spending the next few hours on the toilet isn’t great either way; sorry you’re facing it but hope it either doesn’t happen or isn’t too bad!

@EerieSilence Well, that’s DEFINITELY not the silence you need for sleep: post-omicron snoring, a hogging dog, and a searching helicopter. Sounds like a ruckus! I hope you can steal back enough blanket and get enough quiet so that you can sleep, and hopefully no one’s in the river, poor sods.

@5YearsLeft your new apartment sounds lovely, how exciting!

And whilst I've got you tagged, may I please say a huge Thankyou for this wonderful thread and how you carefully, delicately manage it. It's a lovely, calm place to come and you are always so caring and kind to all of us who drop in.

I wish I had a big wand, to wave over you all to take away the pain, the insomnia, the worry. Some magic to ease the babies to sleep, and the minds to stop whirring, and to shelve the anxieties until the morning. Im sending these vibes to you all.

Sweet dreams to those who manage it, and calm awakenings to those who don't.

EerieSilence · 28/01/2022 02:02

@5YearsLeft - thanks for the kind words. DDog is a very cuddly Dobermann so all long legs and no sense of your personal space. Currently using my leg as a pillow.
I am also on medication for chronic migraines which messes up with my sleep rhythm. The cruising helicopter certainly doesn't help- still out there, with headlight on, hope no poor soul decided to end their life there today.
We all had Omicron, relatively light but still very tired and a bit congested. DH is a snorer so this didn't help.

Cleanbedlinen12 · 28/01/2022 02:02

Hello all and welcome to the thread for if you’re awake after midnight or you want to see adorable lamb pictures (thank you @Wallywobbles!!!) Whatever has you up - babies, children, adults, pain, illness, grief, anxiety, stress in any form, work, lambing, or even crap TV - this thread is here and you’re not alone.
Thanks for this thread 5 years, and for this lovely paragraph.
I’m enjoying dipping in and out and seeing such wonderful supportive people.
I’m awake with anxiety and a ridiculous amount of wine to unsuccessfully cure anxiety. It’s wonderful to know other people are up too.

5YearsLeft · 28/01/2022 02:05

@catwomando Ah thank you, that’s so kind of you. It’s really the people that make the thread, so it’s a little bit all of us, and it can get so awful when you’re stuck awake, so everybody might need this at some point. If you’re up with us, then I do hope you get some sleep as well!

@5YearsLeft hope you can get some sleep too, what a day you had.

Wallywobbles · 28/01/2022 02:11

It was a neighbors dogs. Not feral at all, a terrier and a spaniel. Their owner used to work for BIL3 on his large dairy/beef farm, so we all know him. We had to have our new ram and a ewe destroyed due to broken legs.

We have a small flock of about a dozen ewes and they split their time between our 2 hectares and another 2 hectares of an old chap in the village. Half our flock came from him. We took them on when he could no longer manage the work.

In fact his sheep have lived here longer than me! I've only lived here since 2017. All my neighbors are ILs. I've lived in France 26 years but met DH2 in 2014.

MonicaGellerBing · 28/01/2022 02:19

Thank you @5YearsLeft Thanks

5YearsLeft · 28/01/2022 02:27

@EerieSilence Your DDog sounds wonderful, besides stealing blankets. Your chronic migraines"&@ sound much, much less wonderful. In addition to my thousands of other daily medications, I take topiramate daily, but it sounds like you’re taking something that messes with your99 I s9leep. Ill also join your hope that no one will be losing their life in the river tonight!

@Cleanbedlinen12 I’m sorry about the anxiety! That really can be a bear, especially in the hours whenever else seems to be quiet and your left with your thoughts. I hope the wine is helping some and that you’ll find some peace .

I'm always up in the night for an hour or two due to pain. I get a drink, pain meds and sit thinking about various things until I am tired enough to return to bed!

cultkid · 28/01/2022 03:35

Heavily pregnant Think it's hormones again

5YearsLeft · 28/01/2022 03:38

Good grief, sorry about all the typos in the last message! Even the wrong form of your/you’re. I was trying to do it in the dark, since now everyone in my house is asleep except me.

@Wallywobbles Wow, that’s… odd? You got half your sheep from him yet his dogs are so poorly trained that they’re killing sheep? How does that work for him if he has sheep himself? I have to admit I know nothing about farming. And I completely forgot you were in France and we’re neighbors.

@fantasmasgoria1 I can completely understand that. When I sleep, my pin almost always wakes me up at 2-3am. Always those same hours. I’m glad you’re (hopefully) able to get back to sleep after that short period of being awake, though!

Fell asleep on the sofa, now in bed and wide awake. Thinking about DD off school with covid, DS stressing about A level mock exams. I really need to get his room redecorated etc...

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 28/01/2022 03:48

Post chemo steroids again 🙄 have just put my audible book on to try to get back off, alarm going off in 3 hours to get my youngest up and off to school. Luckily I’m off work so if need be I could then go back to bed if need be, steroids allowing of course! Sending sleepy vibes to everyone!

5YearsLeft · 28/01/2022 03:52

@cultkid Ugh. There seems to be a point in pregnancy in which it’s just impossible to get comfortable for quality sleep. Still, I hope you can get some!

@Knackeredmommy Isn’t that the way of it, sigh? Fall perfectly asleep in a chair or on sofa and then wide awake thinking about your whole to do list when in bed. If you can, try to do something cozy for yourself, and all those things will be there tomorrow (though I do know how hard it is to stop thinking, so when you can’t, you can’t!)

I've been awake for the past hour, sitting with my poorly DD. She's 9 and had a PCR yesterday. She was sent home from school. Hope you all manage to get some sleep x

Knackeredmommy · 28/01/2022 03:54

@5YearsLeft. Thanks, scrolling on here, hoping I nod off soon xx

I'm trying to find someone with "manly" writing to scribble my dearly departed DP's wedding speech down so I can have it framed - would do it myself but I have traditionally "girly" writing - if anyone on here wants to volunteer their DH, I'd be eternally grateful (and pay postage and paper costs)
