AIBU to think that Boris should resign now?

Seemslikeagoodidea · 11/01/2022 17:45

Today it has been revealed that in May 2020 invitations were emailed to (allegedly) 100 Downing Street staff, for a garden party. This party happened during the first lockdown, when many people could not visit their elderly relatives, even on their death beds, due to the lockdown rules. The email was sent by one of the PM's top people, and stated that people should "bring their own booze and enjoy the sunshine". Today Boris has been conspicuous by his absence.

I think this is the final straw and shows a lack of judgement and absence of moral fibre. Enough is enough - he should resign and if he doesn't do it then his own party should force him to go.

AIBU?

Alexandra2001
i thought better of you, somethings are indefensible

Like calling other MPs "scum"?

PartyOnKale · 12/01/2022 12:26

He doesn't like the references to boozy etc.

PartyOnKale · 12/01/2022 12:28

Sli will divert for a second to day she's apologised clavinova and honestly it seemed to this old cynic a rather heartfelt one.

PartyOnKale · 12/01/2022 12:28

Ooh past lying getting him sacked!

Roussette · 12/01/2022 12:28

I have followed PMQs for a long long time.

I have never heard of so many calls for resignation of a PM.

PartyOnKale · 12/01/2022 12:29

Washing machine manufacturers.😂

Johnson is a fking disgrace. He has absolutely no idea where the line is, and just how far over it he has stepped.

"We apologise for the fact that on my watch we had a cheese and wine work event where I bunged a few cheeky PPE contracts around, got my chums to inspect the wallpaper, and then we went on to do a boat load of class A's, and then after 20 pints of bootlegged lager drive around the red light district in an untaxed uninsured car looking for sex trafficked girls and boys whilst carrying some unlicensed guns for protection whilst people said goodbye to their loved ones on Zoom, but the British public aren't interested in that trivial stuff, they want build back better/jabs in arms/get boosted now/we're taking the difficult decisions/ blah blah blah"

There are so many parties and so many lies, he can't even remember where he is in this whole mess now...

BashStreetKid · 12/01/2022 12:32

Of course he should resign. He has admitted attending a party in breach of his own guidelines, and the "I thought it was a work event" excuse is blatant nonsense. He's also admitted lying to Parliament.

velvetvixen · 12/01/2022 12:33

Look, he didn't realise the BYOB party was a party. He thought it was a work meeting.

Easy mistake we could all make Confused

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/01/2022 12:33

Have you got Saturday’s lottery numbers?

Dont play the lottery Wink but unless Boris does the right thing for once in his rotten life by resigning, it's really down to the (Graham) Brady Bunch on the 1922 Committee

It's reported that they already have the required number of letters to call a Motion of No Confidence, or they decide he's more trouble than he's worth he'll be gone - but they still have a working majority of 80 and memories are short, so who knows?

BashStreetKid · 12/01/2022 12:33

I do wonder what happens at Johnson's weekly audiences with The Queen. If I were her, I would be so attempted to ask him why she should bother listening to him given that she can't believe a word he says. Or else demand detailed chapter and verse from an independent fact-checker.

SafeMove · 12/01/2022 12:34

He's also admitted lying to Parliament.

Again. And the Queen. And the nation. And his ex wives. And his ex employers.

That alas alack would appear to be the nub of the "misunderstanding".
BashStreetKid · 12/01/2022 12:36

Clavinova, you said before that you wanted to establish the facts before commenting on Johnson's attendance at the party. Now that he's admitted that he did, do tell us whether you think that was justifiable. If you really believe his excuse that he didn't know it was a party, does that mean you think he's stupid?

justasking111 · 12/01/2022 12:37

We know friends, family, neighbors who did this, heck some police, NHS folks.

Who's salivating in the wings to replace him is a more pertinent question. Could it be the invisible chancellor for the past two months.

Pumperthepumper · 12/01/2022 12:38

It’s because @Clavinova expects Labour to behave much better than the conservatives in all circumstances. They hold Labour to a much higher standard because they expect this sort of morality from the Tories.

She's seen a lot of prime minister's over the decades good and bad, she's pragmatic not daft
Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/01/2022 12:40

"He didn't realise the BYOB party was a party. He thought it was a work meeting"

Yes, I expected that
He'd better hope that nobody manages to drag up an email from him asking "Will there be strippers?" or whatever, except even then he'd claim it was fake

something2say · 12/01/2022 12:40

What bothers me is this...

The invite went out to 100 MPs yes? Yet only now the Tories are seeking his resignation. Yet they knew of the wrongdoing as they were invited to it!!

I just feel I can't trust the lot of them. Is this only coming to a head now to get rid of him? They've known all along yet they sit on the info until it behoves them to use it.

Sack the lot of them and get people in who actually care about us rather than themselves.

Well, I know. When my colleagues say they're going to have a drinks do in the garden at 6pm, BYOB, I would always assume they were intending this to be a work event.
PartyOnKale · 12/01/2022 12:42

It was a party for civil servants at Downing Street rather than MPs something2say.

Hahahaha. I've worked national labour conferences, liased with the organisers, came away from the meetings thinking ick.
peridito · 12/01/2022 12:44

What something2say says with bells on . What a privileged bunch they all are .

Well, he'd be offering gainful employment opportunities to the strippers, in line with 'levelling up'.....
VickyEadieofThigh · 12/01/2022 12:46

@Sparklingbrook

Yes, but who will take over?
There are hundreds of Tory MPs - they'll be able to muster up a few candidates. They should never have selected him in the first place as he was clearly unfit for the post even then and his conduct since has shown it to be true.
