AIBU to complain to sainsburys about this?

gillbillwill · 10/01/2022 16:11

Am I being a cranky old witch, mumsnet?

Today on a 8.30-9.30 food delivery slot the delivery driver buzzed to get into the building at 8.20 and 8.21. I was still in bed and half dressed at this point. As soon as the 8.20 buzz happened I got up and began pulling clothes on. By 8.22 I was opening my front door and he was there (I'm not sure how he got through the communal front door in the end, possibly also buzzed my neighbours?). He said 'I tried buzzing but nobody let me in' to which I responded 'yes because it's not 8.30' to which he appeared to not know what to say. (A mumbled apology)

The delivery drivers are often a bit early but always call me from the van out of courtesy to check it's okay to come up early.

AIBU number 1- AIBU to think it's not okay to turn up 10 mins early in the morning with a food delivery?

AIBU number 2- AIBU to complain to the supermarket on their online tool to ask their them to remind their drivers to be more considerate if they are turning up early, particularly in the morning? (I don't want anything out of this, genuinely do just want to not have them keep coming early. I picked 8.30-9.30 instead of 8-9 for a reason).

10 mins early - yabu

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 10/01/2022 18:41

YABU for sure! I was up and dressed at 5.30am before Christmas to receive our Waitrose order (6am to 7am delivery window). It's only polite to be ready and waiting, particularly at the moment when they may be covering someone else's shift and want to get on with deliveries (without being delayed) at a speedy rate!

PurpleRainlnTheSky · 10/01/2022 18:42

@TabithaTittlemouse

Btw if serious, do you really just roll out of bed and answer the door? I would want to at least dress and have a cup of tea first!
Why do you need to be dressed, and have to have had a cup of tea before you answer the door to a delivery? Confused Do you have to have a full face of make-up on as well?
KarmaStar · 10/01/2022 18:42

Yabu and ridiculous.

Babyvenusplant · 10/01/2022 18:43

You're being completely ridiculous

esloquehay · 10/01/2022 18:44

You're being ridiculous and entitled.

Longdistance · 10/01/2022 18:44

If your delivery is due at 8.30, why are you still in bed? You should be up and dressed.

1FootInTheRave · 10/01/2022 18:45

10 minutes?

You're petty, ridiculous and mean.

Walking4You · 10/01/2022 18:45

We get our deliveries from tesco.
They have NEVER delivered stuff early, often waiting in front if the house until it’s the right time.

If someone was ringing customer service to complain like the OP, they would take it seriously. I mean the OP was in as it was the am. But there will be cases where people will go back home just on time etc…

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 10/01/2022 18:47

I am not malicious but I really do hope that if you complain about this, OP, you are removed from the Sainsbury's customer database. It's beyond entitled at the best of times but particularly doing a pandemic, with Omicron running rampant!

Walking4You · 10/01/2022 18:47

I have to lol at people getting ready to wait for their delivery half an hour before ‘because it’s only polite’.

What would be rude is your be present at the allocated time. Or to not be dressed etc…
No one has ever said you needed to be ready half an hour before, ready to jump as soon as the delivery driver arrives.

Yep, this. ^
FortniteBoysMum · 10/01/2022 18:48

YABU. If you place an order, you make sure you're up and dressed with plenty of time. If I have ordered furniture for delivery in the past and it can come from 7 am, then I am dressed by 6.45. Unless you put a note on the order saying please do not deliver before this time or call first then YABU. It was 10 minutes. Little different if half an hour.

Walking4You · 10/01/2022 18:48

@NewModelArmyMayhem18, what’s the relation between complaining about an early delivery and covid? Confused

Gilead · 10/01/2022 18:51

Seriously, ten minutes? You are really being picky.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 10/01/2022 18:52

Has it not struck that delivery drivers are in short supply at the moment (the one we had yesterday was doing a stand-in extra shift for a colleague self-isolating with Omicron), so should be applauded for showing up in the first place (and keeping the service going). They really need to hit the ground running and keep on doing so from one delivery to the next. Not being slowed down by a random MNetter deciding she can only be ready at precisely the start of the delivery window.

Chikapu · 10/01/2022 18:53

Don't most people want to be dressed when answering the door to a grocery delivery? Literally no one mentioned having a full face of makeup.

imnotacelebritygetmeoutofhere · 10/01/2022 18:54

You should have got up more than 10 minutes before the delivery slot. He should have phoned you before coming to your door. You would be highly unreasonable to make a complaint about him! Don't be ridiculous. After everything people have been through over the last two years Hmm

iheartredsquirrels · 10/01/2022 18:54

I really find some of the aibus on mn so stupid it has to be a complete joke, and this peeps, is one of them.

Iwantamarshmallowman · 10/01/2022 18:55

YABVU.
Delivery drivers get treated like crap. They are short staffed atm and are forced to work stupid hours to cover. You want to risk someone's livelihood because you were too lazy to get up in time for a delivery slot you booked , next time pay the extra for a later delivery slot.
Mumsnet never fails to remind me that there are some truly unpleasant people out there.

ShadowGirls · 10/01/2022 18:57

I worked for Ocado for three years and turned up twenty minutes early without calling ahead on a daily basis

Not once did anybody moan, most were grateful to just get it out of the way ASAP

Henryhoover12 · 10/01/2022 18:58

The OP is no longer replying, probably on the phone complaining to sainsburys as we speak. 😂😂 I pray this is a joke because surely nobody can lack this self awareness of the fact that we’re in a pandemic with online food shopping being so busy. So you would rather he waited 8 minutes and was late for a elderly person as the end of his drops.

WombatChocolate · 10/01/2022 18:59

I will just say again, that the OP accepted she was being unreasonable and very early on (p2 I think) acknowledged this.

And as an aside, I take the food delivery in wearing my dressing gown. My delivery usually comes at 8am on my day off and I simply open the door in my dressing gown. Seems fine to me.

TenPenceMix · 10/01/2022 18:59

Yabu. You could at least have had brushed your teeth and be washed and dressed.

imnotacelebritygetmeoutofhere · 10/01/2022 18:59
