AIBU to complain to sainsburys about this?

Am I being a cranky old witch, mumsnet?

Today on a 8.30-9.30 food delivery slot the delivery driver buzzed to get into the building at 8.20 and 8.21. I was still in bed and half dressed at this point. As soon as the 8.20 buzz happened I got up and began pulling clothes on. By 8.22 I was opening my front door and he was there (I'm not sure how he got through the communal front door in the end, possibly also buzzed my neighbours?). He said 'I tried buzzing but nobody let me in' to which I responded 'yes because it's not 8.30' to which he appeared to not know what to say. (A mumbled apology)

The delivery drivers are often a bit early but always call me from the van out of courtesy to check it's okay to come up early.

AIBU number 1- AIBU to think it's not okay to turn up 10 mins early in the morning with a food delivery?

AIBU number 2- AIBU to complain to the supermarket on their online tool to ask their them to remind their drivers to be more considerate if they are turning up early, particularly in the morning? (I don't want anything out of this, genuinely do just want to not have them keep coming early. I picked 8.30-9.30 instead of 8-9 for a reason).

Yabu. Imagine complaining about your food arriving 10 minutes early when there’s people literally starving in the world. Get a grip.

Enough4me · 10/01/2022 19:26

OP HAS REPLIED - see page 2.

HitsAndMrs · 10/01/2022 19:28

People honestly complain about anything and everything these days.

People are just trying to get through their working day, it's 10 minutes...

Westerman · 10/01/2022 19:33

Are you kidding???

YABU.
A close family member is a supermarket delivery driver, and I have to say, they have a pretty awful job with regards to customers.
Next time, book a slot for 9-10

Lovemusic33 · 10/01/2022 19:39

YABU, you should have been up if you had a delivery at 8.30am, he was only ten minutes early.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 10/01/2022 19:45

@TabithaTittlemouse

Btw if serious, do you really just roll out of bed and answer the door? I would want to at least dress and have a cup of tea first!
That's what dressing gowns are for surely!
whynotwhatknot · 10/01/2022 19:47

Nah and yous hate tesco they regularly turn up half hour early i dont mind as i make sure im ready for an hour before

theyre really busy and if i can help them get their lunch early then its al good

Coffeepot72 · 10/01/2022 19:56

I wouldn’t complain about 10 mins. However I WFH, and if an order came (for example) half an hour early, I might still be in a meeting.

SockFluffInTheBath · 10/01/2022 19:56

I can see both sides. It’s ‘only’ ten minutes and you were in so not a big deal. But you booked the time slot for a reason and how does he know the run up is disturbable?

We stopped using Sainsbury’s a couple of years ago for this reason. I got a call (when I was driving home) to say ‘I’m at your house, there’s people in there, the dog’s going mad, but they won’t open the door’ to which I replied ‘that’s my 12 & 13 who I tell not to open the door. I’m driving home and you’re 30 mins early. Please don’t knock the door again, I’m not far off’. Repeated 10 mins later- I’m about 3 mins away at this point. Happened 4 weeks on the trot so I complained snd I stopped using them.

Please complain. Just so the people the other end of the phone can have a good laugh!!!

capricorn12 · 10/01/2022 20:06

This is my absolute pet hate. I have a weekly Ocado slot and have complained more than once as the drivers turn up anything up to 40 minutes early and usually without calling first. On one occasion I was at a toddler group with DD and got a shirty phone call asking where I was (30 minutes early) another time I was in the bath and the driver rang me, got no answer so decided to just turn up and start banging on the door... he was 40 minutes early!

10 minutes I could live with but I don't understand why people don't see being early as just as unacceptable as being late? I'm told that Ocado drivers are allowed to finish work early if they finish their deliveries early which I think is the root of the problem.

Again, OP returned on p2 and acknowledged she was in a bad mood and unreasonable and wasn't going to ring.

@Cochabamba

Listen to yourself! You have food delivered to your door and it's ten minutes early and you're complaining! Do you know how privileged you are?
Yup this in spades ^
Offmyfence · 10/01/2022 20:44

@gillbillwill

I did want to lay in bed til 8.29, which is why I didn't book 8-9!
Oh get a grip! You wanted to roll out of bed, teeth I brushed one minute before they arrived!

🤮

5thHelena · 10/01/2022 20:50
