Would you mind someone at your table having an injection whilst sitting there?

 1. Person being injected is not in your party
 2. Not insulin or anything immediately life saving, a vaccination

YANBU- wouldn't mind
YABU- it's gross

@PinkSparklyPussyCat

You do realise that blood donation takes place in a communal hall, no privacy there? Yes, all there know that blood donation will be happening, but there is in no way an expectation of privacy.

Not the same at all. Blood donation is always signposted so I would know to avoid it and I'm sure anyone who gives blood knows about the lack of privacy. You're also very unlikely to be having tea and cake in the middle of a blood donation session.

Hah you've never given blood of course! The cup of tea and a biscuit is a fundamental part of the experience, it's needed to maintain hydration and blood sugar. And yes you often do have it in full view of the donation chairs and can see the bags filling up with blood.

You're missing my point anyway. It's not that a needle-phobic member of the public might stumble upon the session unawares. It's that there is medical precedent for taking blood in a communal area, underlining that the medical profession don't see it as an activity needing privacy. And it is more graphic than getting a jab, as blood is visible and it takes longer.

Did you really expect me to say I had? However I do you that you get tea and biscuits but the point is that is because you've given blood, they don't hand it over to some random who's walked in off the street and fancies a cuppa!

But unless it's clear that someone might be having a vaccination in the cafe it's not unreasonable to be surprised when it happens! In some places a cuppa, cake and a flu vaccine might be a good idea (someone mentioned an Indian restaurant doing Covid vaccines upthread) but make it clear that's what happens.

No, hence the words "of course"!

AryaStarkWolf · 10/01/2022 11:46

It is a bit odd and the nurse shouldn't have done it there really. I wouldn't have complained are anything but it's strange for sure

Being surprised when something happens is not the same as think that it was inappropriate for it to have happened. I get that you think that vaccinations should not be performed unexpectedly in public place as you consider them scary, intimate and unpleasant to watch. But you must accept that this is a minority view, surely? If I understand you correctly you're saying overall behaviour needs to be adjusted to cater for your minority view? There are many, many contexts in which I would agree with that approach. But this is not one of tnem.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 10/01/2022 12:32

I would have left, that is not expecting anyone to cater to me! Nowhere have I said that overall behaviour needs to be adjusted to suit me, I just don't think a cafe is the right place for vaccinations unless it's part of a vaccination centre.

InexperiencedDogOwner · 10/01/2022 17:06
@InexperiencedDogOwner that poster was there, you were not! Why question what she says?!
Because I work in pharmacy and know the rules for giving vaccines! Maybe myob?!

HaveringWavering · 10/01/2022 21:16

But no matter what you say the rules are, she had that experience, why brand her a liar?

InexperiencedDogOwner · 10/01/2022 22:36

I never said she was a liar if you read my post properly! I was saying that a pharmacy should not be doing jabs outside of a consultation room.

TabithaTittlemouse · 10/01/2022 22:44

It was unprofessional of the nurse to not offer the patient privacy but I’ve injected in far less sterile environments.

HaveringWavering · 10/01/2022 22:44

"That doesn't sound right" is what you said. I can see now what you were getting at but it read very much as "you must be wrong" to me. Fair enough, apologies.
