Would you mind someone at your table having an injection whilst sitting there?

  1. Person being injected is not in your party
  2. Not insulin or anything immediately life saving, a vaccination

YANBU- wouldn't mind
YABU- it's gross

I don't get the problem really and find it a bit silly people actually complained. It takes seconds. I could understand taking blood or something like that would people off food but one injection...

@Cuck00soup

It sounds like a similar place we have in my village, with a café in a sheltered accommodation-type place but it's open to the public too exactly this.

This actually changes my answer.

The nurse has to do the person's flu jab and probably complete another 19 other visits before finishing their shift.

In the original scenario, it sounded like a public cafe and as per my earlier post, if someone can go to a public cafe they don't qualify for a housebound visit.

In this situation, as I now understand it, the person is in a cafe attached to their accommodation.

The nurse has a few choices.

  • not do the jab
  • ask the person to return to their living accommodation and drop patients 19 or 20 from the end of the list.
  • risk assess the situation, conclude that the infection risks are no different to the persons home and crack on with the jab.

I personally would do the jab in situ so that the person was protected and I could complete my visits. Others can look away.

Agreed. Once you have the full story this really is a "nothing to see here" story.

An Indian restaurant in England are doing this. Covid vaccinations when you have your meal. I think it's genius!

disconnected101 · 08/01/2022 17:59

How do nurses take care of clinical waste when out & about, given the risk of contamination from blood-borne infections? Genuine question, I'm not being goady.

DonaPatrizia · 08/01/2022 18:01

But why was any of this taking place in a cafe? Normally you get a vaccination at a designated centre, a GP, clinic or pharmacy. I can’t understand why the nurse would be having the conversation with the patient in the cafe. This is weird.

Try reading the post where OP explains it then.

@Comedycook

Why is taking the contraceptive pill inappropriate in a meeting or cafe? It is just a small pill. If you were coming down with a headache, would you nip to the loo to take a paracetamol

I wouldn't take paracetamol in a business meeting. I wouldn't think it was appropriate. It's not horrendously inappropriate but I wouldn't do it all the same.

Really? What's " inappropriate"?

All business meetings will have water, tea and coffee available. It's disruptive to leave the meeting to take a pill.

Taking a pill out of it's wrapper and swallowing it with a glass of water is no different than carrying your own artificial sweeteners and using them instead of the sugar provided.

stingofthebutterfly · 08/01/2022 18:10

Not something to complain about, rather something to be applauded imo. That's patient-centred care whilst promoting a public health issue.

bellocchild · 08/01/2022 18:11

It's not ideal, but anyone getting vaccinated should surely be encouraged?

CovidForChristmas · 08/01/2022 18:13

Wouldn’t bother me but I think you did the right thing given someone complained.

When I was in community we carried round a little mini sharps in to put any needles in etc, the rest we would bag up and leave for the patients to dispose of. We normally have a dressing pack that has in it apron, gloves, small drape and a bag for it all to be disposed in after. We would then dispose of our sharps bin at clinic or hospital
Willharicat · 08/01/2022 18:17

Not read everyone's reply's but as long as its not illegal drugs I'd say its fine if it's a vaccination program being done like flu and covid!
Too many people are quick to complain they can't get an appointment for a covid booster, so something like this is a good idea.
If you don't like it, then maybe sit elsewhere, or go to another cafe?

lljkk · 08/01/2022 18:26

I wouldn't care.

Doomscrolling · 08/01/2022 18:35

Given the workload of nurses doing the vaccinations, I'd understand why she suggested it and it wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

DH, however, would pitch a fit as he's very anxious around needles.

Mummyoflittledragon · 08/01/2022 18:45

My sister would have had a full on fall to the floor panic attack.

Exactly. My daughter has a medical condition, which due to needle phobia is triggered in medical settings. Her heart would have stopped beating (as in literally, but automatically restarts) and likely needed an ambulance. The only jobsworth is the nurse.

Dontwanttolivewithmylover · 08/01/2022 18:49

I'd object.

Ginandtonics · 08/01/2022 19:07

My son has to have two week courses of IV antibiotics, takes a couple of hours to run through three times a day. I am discrete when we set him up but not going to stay home because of it. But a vacciene? WTF! What is it for? I have (I used to be a nurse) got roped into giving things like heparin and even some anti hayfever desensitization stuff, forgotten what it was now, but those are quick and don't really need to be done in a cafe. However, if nowhere else available, I guess it's better than the loo, which is not a good look.

Benjispruce5 · 08/01/2022 19:08

What medical professionals give vaccines in a cafe?

MammaMacgill87 · 08/01/2022 19:17

So a patient who lived in the apartments who happened to be in the attached cafe had a visiting nurse give them the flu jab there instead of getting packed up and returning home? I don't really see the issue tbh but I can see why some might. If she's a community nurse she probly had another 17billion people to get to in one day and this was quickest and least disruptive. Case loads for community nursers are insane

ShabbyRobedNun · 08/01/2022 19:19

It wouldn't bother me as such, it is however odd to say the least and I agree with 'Thehop', definately attention seeking behavior.

SquirrelG · 08/01/2022 19:40

I couldn't care less in that situation - can't see what the fuss is about.

Vinomummyinlockdown · 08/01/2022 19:51

People get vaxxed for covid in McDonalds in USA. That’s the world we live in🤡🤡🤡🤡😵‍💫🤪

BreatheAndFocus · 08/01/2022 19:55

@MargeSimpson00

It was a flu jab. Patient was in the cafe and nurse came in, told them not to bother getting up they would do it at the table. Other customers complained they didn't want to see that whilst eating
Easy solution to that - the other customers should mind their own business and not look!

Some people are just desperate to be offended. It’s not their business; they shouldn’t be nosing at other people; they need to get a life. How long did the vaccination take? A few seconds?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 08/01/2022 20:03

Why should they? A few seconds would be enough for me to start a full on panic attack and before you say I should look away it wouldn't make any difference.

whyayepetal · 08/01/2022 20:13

I know that my nursing colleagues would have be delighted that they were offered a side room! You were considering the cafe users and the patient’s privacy OP - perfectly reasonable I reckon.
