To think this card is grim and not appropriate in a shop where children can see it?

Just that really.

Went into Scribbler to get a birthday card DS10 was with me and saw this. I thought it was grim and shouldn’t be on view in a high street shop where children can see it.

Who sends these cards anyway? They’re sub-13 year old boy humour.

AnxiousWeirdo · 07/01/2022 19:29

I ripped a rude card up in Tesco’s once 😬

What on earth did the card say to provoke that response 😂

OwMyToe · 07/01/2022 19:29

It's gross, but it does seem to be their "thing". I wouldn't have known that, though. I'd just not go back again. Not my sense of humour and I've no wish to support them by giving them my money.

BoredZelda · 07/01/2022 19:29

Pissing myself at the thought of people actually complaining to the staff about the cards though. That's like going into a sex shop and complaining that they sell dildos.

Only if you are aware you are going in to a sex shop. If you went in to what you thought was a general store and found it selling dildos, you’d complain, no?

Tevion28 · 07/01/2022 19:30

Gross and not in the slightest bit funny.
And I do have a sense of humour but I can't see any in that card.

No, probably not. I've got better things to do than waste my time complaining to bored staff on min wage who will not give a tiny shit or have any control over the stock.

It's a shop known for selling cards with adult jokes on them, and they have notices in the windows telling you so.

I ripped a rude card up in Tesco’s once 😬 Scribblers is different though.
Did it say fart? How embarrassing to admit that.

You realise that different people find different things funny?

Millions of people seem to find Michael McIntyre funny for reasons which completely escape me, so i just don't buy tickets to his gigs. Easy.

Poundland were selling sex toys for a while.
OrangeSyringe · 07/01/2022 19:37

This is the first time I’ve realized that Scribbler and Smiggles aren’t the same shop. Oh. Dear.

Yants · 07/01/2022 19:38

I don't find it offensive as such, just painfully unfunny and something that would only appeal to simpletons with an irritatingly juvenile sense of humour.

@melj1213

YABVU to take your child into Scribbler and then complain about Scribbler products considering their entire USP is to have vulgar/inappropriate/NSFW type cards.
I agree with this.
Newyearoldyou · 07/01/2022 19:47

I've never heard of it

Is there a warning before going in?
I'm astonished at what fc are exposed too, even bloody bbc adverts well before the watershed are horrific.

lightisnotwhite · 07/01/2022 19:47

@Changemaname1

God only on mumsnet

Shouldn’t have took dc in there clearly

How would you know it’s it’s a shop for adult cards though? I’ve just bought 4 for £9.99 cards on the back of this thread. However children shouldn’t be reading cards about implicit sex acts bum or anything else.
Lavender24 · 07/01/2022 19:49

I'm sure they've heard worse at school.

On a separate note I know where I'll be buying cards from now on!

DerAlteMann · 07/01/2022 19:50

No way would I take a child into Scribbler. Cards like that are what they are known for. It's an "adults only" shop IMO.

Bellyups · 07/01/2022 19:51

YABU.
Your son probably sees/hears worse in the playground

HunterHearstHelmsley · 07/01/2022 19:51

@dworky

People claiming 'parenting fail' are totally wrong. Unless Scribbler have a notice at the entrance stating "Not suitable for children", how would customers know? in fact, it would be very simple & inexpensive for them to implement but, of course, they won't because they don't want customers choosing to shop elsewhere. They want to stock adult stuff but refuse to take any responsibility for it. Stop making excuses for shitty, irresponsible retailers & demand they do better.
They have parental guidance signs in the window.

They have implemented something.

As stated... Parenting fail.

FriendshipsAreHardForMe · 07/01/2022 19:52

Personally I find it a bit obvious and not particularly funny. I'm not a prude, it's just a bit "meh".

And no, I wouldn't be impressed if it was on show in a family friendly shop. No idea what Scribbler is though!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 07/01/2022 19:54

Well, I was most surprised to receive that exact card from the Queen for my 100th birthday.

I was just expecting a telegram...Confused

vintage21 · 07/01/2022 19:54

doubt young kids would understand the meaning think its funny and something that i could send to quite a few people i know
